Every snap by Malachi Lawrence

Granted I’m no expert but he seems like him and mazi could have a competitive race at the starting blocks… but it’s like one game though was hoping we’d see burst right away

Shoulda drafted Lomu instead.
Ya the guy that in his first preseason game was mediocre run blocking and needed chips pass blocking. You are an eval stud and should have a podcast. You would make 10's and 10's of dollars

We don't need another guard, which is what Lomu will be once NE figures out that he isnt an OT

I saw a couple really nice pressures by him late in that clip.

Early on I don't think he looked slow footed. To me he looked like he was hesitant and thinking too much (trying not to make a mistake). Once he got over that he looked better.
Yep....and these guys always seem to forget that their first responsibility is securing the edge. I think he will be fine.

Looks like a backup, couldn't tell the difference between him and Williams.
Except for the fact that this is Williams 6th preseason and Malachi's first and coming out a smaller college. This was his first live speed/game action. Give him some time to grow into the NFL (at least 1/2 - 1 full season) before making a judgement.

I will hold off judgment.
1st game, new scheme. And not playing with the starters he normally will be on the field with.
This is part of putting faith into Christian Parker. I'm sure he checked off on all the defensive picks

Exactly why I wish we had played him more. We know what James Houston can do. I would have gave Lawrence most of the snaps to get up to speed faster.
CP needs to see all these guys playing in his system, including Houston…

But yeah, we all could have predicted Houston would get pressure on the QB.

Compare to Akheem Mesidor, the more experienced/polished rookie pass rusher.

Or Gabe Jacas a favorite of some on this board.

not sure what you guys are watching. i saw a rookie who set the edge on the run plays very well. got a decent push on the pass rushes. almost got there a few times. didnt get fooled on the fake handoff bootleg and contained the QB. very solid first preseason game by a rookie edge not spectacular but looked like he belonged. showed more this game than Taco and Mazi did their entire careers combined.
Exactly. A rookie from UCF playing just 16 snaps in his first preseason game isn't going to look like Charles Haley right out of the gate.

I saw some nice pressures, some physical plays against the run, and someone that was never overpowered. Can't wait to see how he does once he adapts and learns the pro game.

He looked hesitant at times and there were a few plays where he creeped inside, which compromised contain. Milroe burned him bad on one of them. Prior to that play there was a roll-out to the right where he showed awareness to back out and hold the angle. He ended up stopping Milroe for a minimal gain. He did pressure the QB a couple times, and I think those pressures turn into sacks with more experience, but it's going to take time. Pass rushing specialist this year, bulk up over the offseason and hopefully become an every down player next year. Not sold either way, but he has the tools.

Yeah that was the thought process for Mesidore. An old rookie but should be able to step right in and help in year one.

And even he will clearly need some work as a rookie, was my point.
