Sounds like Steele is on the hot seat

I don't see them moving on from Steele this year. If they were going to do that I think they would have made a move earlier. Plus it is a $9 million cap hit if they cut him now, with more cap implications next year. They just redid his contract to lower his cap number this year and it extends his CAP money into 2030 with the last 2 years being voidable.

I was okay keeping him this year and planning to find a replacement in the 2027 draft. They can't fix everything in 1 year. The problem is, Guyton hasn't shown anything yet either and it doesn't look like any of their backups are up to the task.

We’ve had weakness at rt for some time now. It’s not ideal but it shouldn’t ruin your season. One position shouldn’t do that. Especially right tackle.

Offensive line will be good enough. If both Guyton and Steele suck that might require some shuffling the offensive line.
It can limit us though. It makes us have to keep a TE to help him more often. However yes there isn't much we could do about it now unfortunately, but hope the pressure makes him work harder at being better.

The problem is really depth. If anyone gets hurt, the entire OL will be compromised. Need at least serviceable backups. The guys they have should be stocking shelves at Home Depot.
I think that’s an every team problem. The most successful teams are the healthiest.

I'll say it again, TJ Bass at RT.
I dunno from what I have heard on sports radio here in DFW they look at him as a guard that could start on other teams. Feel they most likely move Smith to LT and Guyton to right and Bass to guard. I really hope not because Smith is a way better guard then Bass. However, haven't yet heard anything about them trying him there and how he performed. Have you?

I think most teams have 1 or 2 serviceable backups, former starter types. Not quite as good as they were but can still get you through type guys? We literally have no one like that after the front line. Hopefully, they bring in a guy or two to bolster the bench on the OL.

How was that any different than last year though?

That’s a fair assessment. I don’t know where it comes from but I’m not against it.

He does, but who's going to replace him? Not anyone on this team.
Thats why I've been advocating for us to trade Camden Brown for Penei Sewel or Brian O'Neil.......of course they would have to throw in additional compensation

That’s what I’m hoping for.

It’s just strange to have invested so much capital in a unit that’s still so iffy.

All I’m asking for is a veteran backup because last we saw of Thomas he didn’t appear up to the task, and one look at Shelton tells you a year of the weight room and some serious fatty protein is in order.

We cut his salary in the restructure and created about 13 mill of cap space. Had we simply cut him, we would have lost much of that space.

Pay attention and your posts will improve.
Actually if we had designated him a June 1 cut, we would have saved around $14MM.

Yeah I have no regrets I love our interior but yeah the resources got the interior and not at tackle is hurting us. Guyton can fix this. So hard to find tackles I wonder what level of talent we can even trade for at this point..I agree though it needs to be looked at.

Yup right, which why I’ve called Guyton a major key to the season. We know what Steele is by now. Guyton still potentially has an upside that we have yet to see.

Unfortunately we will know next to nothing about it until it really counts.
