I've seen a lot of posts since TC started about Sam Williams. Most are usually "it's time to let him go" or "Jerry won't admit his mistake" or something along one of those two lines. The purpose of this thread is to remind his critics; Williams was a FA after last year. The Cowboys signed him to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. The deal includes a $600,000 signing bonus and $2 million in guaranteed money, with an average annual value of $2.5 million.
For the 2026 season, Williams will receive a $1.4 million base salary plus his $600,000 signing bonus. His contract carries a $2.5 million salary-cap hit and a $2 million dead-cap charge. Overall, it's a relatively modest one-year commitment for the Cowboys, with $2 million of the deal guaranteed. More importantly, his contract is less than one percent of this year's salary cap. Less than .01% That is peanuts!
I have no clue if he will impress Schotty/CP enough to make the 53 or not. If he does, then the Cowboys get a player dirt cheap. If he doesn't then there was someone else they liked better. But either way the investment in Williams isn't enough for all the handwringing over him.
