Currently available tackles

I would agree normally, but if steele continues to suck, he will be replaced or even cut. Jerry has had some health issues and now very focused on his legacy. he wants to go all in this year and wouldn't surprise me to see him bring in a tackle.
Steele is an 8M cap hit and a 35M dead cap. He's not getting cut. He probably won't be getting released next year for the same reason, dead cap. How much money do they want to spend replacing him while he takes up a roster spot?

Yeah, I figured that out later.
Wouldnt surprise me to see him.benched at some point. Releasing him now will cost us 34m cap hit, essentially money n paid to a player that would no longer be on the team, but helps 2027 cap and getting puckens signed.

yeah I just looked it up, unless we draft a tackle in the 1st or 2nd we're done and stuck with him for this season and next at least

If they seriously think anything like that is a realistic prospect, and they don’t do it, then it’s basically neglect at this point.

The value, to this team, of Steele’s quality run blocking is totally negated by his almost total dearth of pass blocking ability.

If a trade is remotely viable, they absolutely must consider it.
No bc there is nobody better out there to replace him, which is why he'd have some trade value in the first place.

At this stage, I’ll settle for “more balanced” if we can’t get “better”.
E.g. Thayer Munford did ok in both pass pro and run blocking for the Pats last year.

I’d seriously consider an “ok” in both categories over “very good” in one part of the job and “absolutely rank rotten” in the other.

It’s a position group where you’re only as good as your worst guy’s floor, and that is basement level with Steele.

A little off topic, but speaking of Tackles.
Taylor Decker is still unsigned.
I'm not suggesting we sign him, just that it really looks like he made a poor decision to demand out of Detroit.
I understand they wanted to restructure him, and for him to take a modest pay cut to remain there.
I think he felt there would be a strong market for him.
So far, there is no market for him,, even with Tunsil going down a lot of people felt the Cs would go get Decker.
So far, they have not.
Things could change for him, but as of now, it looks like a bad decision to demand his release.

I believe it's just a matter of time before someone steps up who's capable of good abilities in both run blocking and pass blocking. The problematical aspect of that situation is finding someone who is very qualified of supporting both needs and doesn't cost enough to discourage hiring him. They don't grow on trees, though. This FO may wait indefinitely to sign a RT who offers that quality. It seems as much.
