Turpin Replacement?

This yet again??? There is nothing wrong with Turpin.

First-team All-Pro (2024)
Second-team All-Pro (2025)
Yep, that 5.5 yds per punt return last year was amazing. Or the fact he only actually returned 10 punts all year. Chimere Dike had 23 returns, two for TD's and a 17.5 yd return average.

Who do we have on the roster that could return punts and kickoffs if we were to trade or cut Kavonte Turpin? Seems like Mingo and Camden Brown could both play special teams and give you more versatility on offense. I know Caleb Downs has returned kicks in the past but not sure I want to put more on his plate
Any undersized player with below average hands and who can't break a tackle to save his life would be a viable replacement.

He's a potential playmaker once he has the ball, the trick is trusting him with a pass. Supposedly he's looking a lot more comfortable as a pass-catcher, so maybe the offense will renew their attempts to get him more involved.

I would consider trading Turpin for a serviceable OT. Obviously you won't get an All Pro OT but someone with starting experience would be a nice return

His average yds per return was 58th in the league. He wasn't in the top 30 for returns. In 2024 his average was 24 in the league. He had 18 returns, of the players with 18 or more returns, he had the 6th highest average. In 2023 his average was 60th. In 2022 he was 18th in average.

I dont see where he is so impactful and such a game changer. Yes, he has made a few big returns in his career, but we aren't talking Deion Sanders in his prime.

The only other players on the roster who have ever returned a point or a kick in a regular season game are Blue, who returned three kickoffs last year, and Abanikanda, who returned two kickoffs with the Jets a few of years ago.

No one on this team, other than Turpin, has ever returned a punt

I don’t know many people who trust Blue to hold onto the ball when he’s rushing, let alone fielding kicks when a mistake can lose the game.

Turpin is a lock.

Here’s what they’ve done in the preseason.

Turpin offers things to this team that you can't find just anywhere. Yeah, he had a down year in the return game last season but his problem was that he was waiting for his blockers to do their job, which they couldn't. On offense, he can hit a home run at any time.

It looks like they are keeping Turpin. I think that means that Brown is going to get cut. The best punt returner on the team is Downs.

My issue with Turpin is always trust. Is he going to put the ball on the ground or call a fake fair catch. I’d be fine moving on from him the league just kicks it out the end zone now anyway and on punts he doesn’t seem to know the rules
Turpin vs the greatest return man in the history of the NFL.

Yes. The drop off in return production last year was due to poor blocking. Not because Turpin suddenly lost his ability to run with a football.
That's not the only reason. He was dreadful. He couldn't even execute a fair catch by season's end.
