The Washington Commanders name and iconic logo that the NFL team in the nation's capital abandoned in 2020 is back in a manner of speaking. It's on full display and for sale in the team's current merchandise shop.

Although the gear bearing the Commanders name is rare and limited to a Mitchell & Ness throwback line of T-shirts or jerseys bearing the name of former players who played with the Commanders name and helmet insignia, it is indeed for sale.

Anyone can go to the brick-and-mortar store at Northwest Stadium or online and buy, for example, an Art Monk T-shirt bearing the Pro Football Hall Fame receiver's likeness in his old uniform and in his Commanders helmet.

This is a soft launch of the former name coming back. I think everyone realizes the silliness of what 2020 was. Throwing away a historic franchise name and logo over people being temporarily crazy for a few months wasn't worth it. Especially when the alternative is a generic create-a-team logo and name.

Personally isn’t my team and I don’t feel I’m qualified to say if that word was offensive or not. If it offends a group of people leave it off. If those people aren’t offended bring it back. I’ve gotten use to calling them the Commanders now. Maybe go back to the other name and go back to the Snyder years that will work lol.

I actually kind of liked when they called themselves simply the Washington Football Team and put each player's number on the helmet. It felt old school and that it was about the game, not about logos or mascots.
I liked that better than the Commanders. The team name "Commanders" in DC invokes a red, white and blue color scheme or like a green military-ish type color scheme. It just doesn't fit the burgundy and yellow. It seems off.

I'm with you. Go back to the Washington Football Team or go back to the original name. Logo and all.

That will never happen. I live in DC and the name change was a long time coming. New owners are on record as saying they will never change it back.

It’s unfortunate they chose to replace it with one of the worst names in pro sports. Skins ain’t coming back though.

Plenty of things that seemed like a good idea in 1933 are no longer considered to be in good taste. People need to get out of their feelings and move on.
