What we cannot see yet

No, an assessment of the talent added will tell.

You guys sound like the poster who was claiming Myles Garrett wouldn't make a difference for the Rams.
For the record I’ve acknowledged this defense will be much improved . How much the impacts and how far it takes us is left to be seen. I think that’s fair .

And I think the Rams were already the team to beat in NFC. Myles definitely adds to that.

Bbbbbbut, you haven't seen him play yet for the Rams!!! Gotta wait til we see it on the field, right?

I am saying players' leadership.........

This.......

QW, Clark, EZ, Overshawn, Winters, Gary, Downs, Bland, Revel, Vonn Miller, Dak, Tyler Smith, Booker and Lamb all have strong leadership traits AND talent to play at a high level. We are no longer relying on ONE superstar to lead our defense. Remember when DLaw left; Parsons' first words were, this is my defense now ( of course, that was before he and Jerry started fighting ).

This is why I am 100% confident we have better players to handle adversities and tough cycles during the season. Player who won't spend a lot of time reading their clippings when things are going great or go into a funk when the ship is sinking.
What is it they do that provides this NFL- leading leadership?

I'm not saying they are or aren't...just want to know YOUR criteria for it.

And whwere has it gotten us, if they are best leaders in the NFL?

Just doing your job isn't a very high qualification for it.

Easy answer. Talent. Leadership is irrelevant w/o a talented team.

Leadership is one of those grey buzzwords that really doesn't mean much. Same as calling a player a "winner". Just BSPN garble, that's all it is.

Maybe you and others need to look at the good things happening. And don’t be so pessimistic all the time.
Shouldn’t we all just let everyone fan as they choose?

No one should be critical of any fellow fan here for their opinions. That’s the heart of this site isn’t it? Fan how you choose.

Besides who is the judge of what’s positive or negative here? Calling someone “pessimistic” is kind of negative in and of itself.

Sure, I’m ok with that. Bigger point is we already know what the Rams had from last year .

K, no one is denying this defense has been upgraded. But when you start at 30th and missing playoffs in consecutive seasons along with a QB who struggles in big games and divisional round playoffs , I’d argue there is much to prove on the field.

And Im looking forward to watch it unfold. Not sure it’s much of a stretch to say it’s our best defense since Parcells but I’m ok with that . We’ve had some pretty bad defenses this era.

Again, I get the excitement. And if it comes out blazing and dominating I could get on board. But with our history and jinx on our backs this era I d caution for over the top predictions until further evidence . That’s all I’m basically saying. I’m not disputing how good this defense could be or become.

Nope, it's the same. Adding talent makes a team better, and we've added a ton of talent. Not predicting super bowls, but people keep saying we don't know. Yes, we do know, only question is just how much better we'll be.

Of course there's a ton to prove on the field. That goes for every team, every new season. That's just silly platitude to say that.

K, again what we don’t know is what the impacts and results will be .

Not saying we dont know if defense will be better or good . And it should make team better.

I actually think we are closer to same page . Neither of us know what the results will be on the scoreboard.

Eh, there's really no such thing as overcoming adversity in a 17-game season in any unique way.

The only adversity that really matters is injury and at some point, there's nothing you can do about it.

That was not my point.
But that is your opinion.

There is little question that the 2026 Dallas Cowboys have improved their overall talent, especially on defense. That’s exciting of at the time of year when optimism is highest. And it’s not un-reasonable to expect improvement in the upcoming 2026 season.

But here’s the one key element that mini-camps, training camp, and pre-season games cannot show us yet: How will this team handle adversity?

When the real bullets begin to fly on September 13th, we will begin to see what this team is truly made of, and how strong the revitalized culture that so many have talked about. And it will take more than a game or two to see what this team is. It may be November before we really know what this team can be.

Adversity is something that measures every football team every season. The question is not whether or not you will face adversity. The real question is, “How well will our team handle the adversity that will come its way?

So I’m glad to see the glowing reports I’ve heard all summer saying, “This team is different.” Do we know that yet? No. Not yet.

But we will begin seeing this team’s potential when they are faced with rebounding from a tough loss, overcome an injury, or stick together through all adversity.

Adversity is what measures all great football teams. We haven’t seen any adversity yet. But when we do, how this team responds will decide its ultimate fate.
will be a true test of this team’s resilience.

For the defense, we haven’t yet seen this group play together with Christian Parker, calling plays and adjusting under pressure.

Our offense, on the other hand, has already faced adversity multiple times last year and shown they can overcome it—like the big comeback against the Eagles. The veteran offensive group, along with the experienced coaching staff, provides stability despite some apparent weaknesses.

The real question mark remains on the defensive side. From 2016 to the present, we’ve had three historically weak defenses, and even when the units were strong, they often struggled under pressure. Dan Quinn’s defenses, in particular, have historically faltered in high-stakes situations, regardless of regular-season rankings.

While the offense has repeatedly battled through challenges, the defense has often failed to respond when scored upon early. Will that change this year? That’s the uncertainty we can’t see yet. Additionally, special teams could see improvement with a healthy, deeper roster, potentially providing scoring opportunities beyond the offense.

I realize the offense didn’t play perfectly in some games, but this veteran group has already battled through adversity numerous times. Ideally, they would only need to score around 20 points per game to secure 10 wins this season without facing constant challenges, which speaks to how much they’ve endured. The struggles often get attributed to the quarterback, whether #9 or #4, but the bigger issue has consistently been the defense.

The defense has been the most glaring weakness, struggling to respond when scored upon early and often failing to fight back.

when scored upon early and often struggling to recover.

Whether this will improve remains to be seen, but the defensive side of the ball is where most uncertainty lies.

As for special teams, with a healthy roster and greater depth, they could contribute more effectively, creating additional scoring opportunities beyond the offense.

So the most talented are the 'leaders" (for lack of better word). Anger and Aubrey? Or does your theory only apply to QB and WR...maybe the sack or interception leader?

I think it's not necessarily "talent"...but WINNING. I think you can have a talented team but not necessarily winners.

I know...I sure got a lot of those "buzzwords" goin on don't I!

I think I agree with you in one aspect. There doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a super human "leader". The days of Aikman and Brady appear to be over. If ya needed a butt chewing you got it from those two.

Grit. It is an intangible quality that cannot be measured by conventional means. It can only be observed and acknowledged.

Grit pushes resolve through obstacles. It is the fuel empowering success that must be taken and not handed on a silver platter.

Grit is not wishy-washy. It should not appear one game and disappear the next game. Players and teams either have it. Or they lack it.

Grit has been missing from this franchise since the Parcells' days. It will be outstanding if the amassed talent and coaching this season's assembled team can be combined with actual, every game, no exception, grit. That would be awesome to say the least.

Wow, well that is your opinion.
I know you're on here a lot with special priveledges....but you actually keep track of everything everyone says?

My search privilidges aren't very extensive (in fact kinda sucks tbh!), but if I can find some positive comments....do we change the tone or double down?

Ah...never mind on that. I'm gonna focus on the positive! Complaining about the negative (especially in a hyperbole manner) seems...quite negative. {shrug}
