Who is this Year's Surprise Cut?

Title says it all. Who do you think will be year’s surprise cut as they pare down the roster?

Are you referring to complete cut from the team or cut but still added to practice squad?

I think Sam Williams will be cut if you mean completely.

Not sure if I would call that a surprise though.

Ahh yeah just seeing it now lol. Yeah I feel the same way. I guess barring a 3 sack game tonight….think he’s done. I would’ve said Bell but apparently he’s not playing because he’s gonna make the team.

It’s a sign that we have an over abundance of fringe quality players at this spot and only a small number who are actually good.

It’s likely that only one on them will make it. I hope it’s Houston because he can actually rush the passer, but Liufau plays on a ton of special teams downs.

I wish I could contribute to this thread with certainty, but I am the worst at predicting who gets cut. Every year I am shocked about one or two players. So, I just wait to see.

We've known who is on the bubble basically since the draft and there's no reasonable cap casualties on the roster.

Very possible. It has been said Mingo contributes more in special teams. I hope if we can't carry him we at least get a trade for him.

Carson, Bullard, Tioa, Houston, Liufau, Williams, Howell, Mafah and maybe the biggest shocker would be Hooker, but I doubt it.

I expect more than one surprise cut, which I will continue to say is a good thing. Speaks to depth.

One of Williams or Liafau is one of them for sure.

Schoonmaker would be a bit surprising and would probably be claimed.

I’d chance cutting Trigg but not Brown. Too much press and he can play on a 53 right now. Son came to camp ready to play and you want guys like him. Don’t play around. Id keep him over Mingo although he has earned a spot as well.

They’ll probably have to go with six but I would, especially with the impending loss of WR1a.

Houston is making the team. Liufau for special teams, I think. Williams is gone. Mafah is gone. I think Tioa has a chance and Bullard.

I like these 3 and the logic you used. I would also keep Houston because I value pass rush skill over whatever special teams help they "think" Liufau can do.

I don't think Williams has ever come close to matching his draft slot plus his mental gaffes will always be in the back of my mind.

Additionally, just watching Liuafau's attempt at playing linebacker all year last year kinda left a lasting impression on me. It just did.

And definitely not in any kind of keep on the roster kind of way for this year's roster spot.
