Game Day Game thread: Preseason Saints at Cowboys

Overkill....I don't see it.....Especially since you can have Howell on the practice squad...then bring him up on game days as the emergency QB...and not count towards the 48 on game days.

I'd prefer that, but I think we'll keep him.

The one thing working against putting him on the PS and bringing him up (which we could do for only three games) is the new rule concerning having the third QB not count against the game-day roster. You can't do it unless they are on the roster. Now, I don't know if we could circumvent that rule by bringing Howell up as the No. 2 QB for those games and making Milton the emergency QB who doesn't count against the active numbers.

Oh he for sure does. If Pickens is gone and Flurnoy and Lamb are our #1 and #2....all of a sudden the #3 spot is up for grabs.

I dont see that guy on the roster. If Flournoy and Mingo are our #2 and #3, we are in trouble

I don't see Pickens playing on a tag two years in a row. It's already stupid to do it now but I guess he's trying to rehab his reputation in the league. Do it two years in a row and all of a sudden his agent is committing malpractice.

I don't think he'll play on it, but I do think we'll tag him. Jerry has done that several times before and then worked out a long-term deal before the deadline. Tagging him gives us the chance to either do that or trade him before the July deadline.

Yeah I mean I personally feel if they wanted to sign him they would've done it by now. Unless it's a money issue and they are trying to create money to do it....but then again they just paid Quininen so I don't know.

I mean its not about what me and you would do though its about what this team would do. And based on history I could certainly see them go with those two and draft a receiver. Easily.

I'm not with you on corner. With Downs playing the nickel, I think we've got enough there with Bland, Durant and Revel fighting for the two starting spots. It's not perfect and we could always stand to improve our depth, but I'm not super concerned about the position.

Lots of other are talking about it to. Not just me. I don't think they are real happy with their CB room or backup OL. So I expect some roster churning at areas they are deeper.

I havent seen them go with a #3 WR as bad as Mingo in a very long time. Unless a miracle happens and he become a playable NFL WR, I dont see any way his and Pickens fates are intertwined

Maybe. I mean, we sat Bland, Revel and Durant, and Revel has been getting a lot of praise, so I think we're happy with our top three. And Parker likes to employ a nickel safety instead of a nickel corner, so we don't need as much depth at corner as typical. I'd be good with adding one more veteran to the group, though, as I'm not enamored with the depth beyond those three.

Flournoy had seven catches for 92 yards and no TDs last preseason. Brown had six for 166 and 2 TDs.

Have you watched Mingo play WR in real games? Tolbert was bad, but Mingo doesn't belong on the field in real games. He might even lose his roster spot to an undrafted rookie. They had him take a pay cut on a rookie scale contract. Ive never even heard of that happening

dont tell me how bad Mingo is when he has never really had any opportunity. He has had a very solid preseason.

I don't think they ever had an intention this year because the tag is less for one year than what his agent likely believe Pickens' worth is. They "saved" money by paying him on the tag. For a second year, the tag goes up and it will make more sense to give him a long-term deal. I expected from the start for him to play on the tag this year, just like I expect him to be tagged next year before agreeing to a long-term deal.

I do think that he's looked better this preseason than he has in the past, but I agree that he has proven nothing to tell us that he should be one of our top three receivers. Flournoy earned that in the regular season. When Mingo has gotten chances, he has not. I'd keep him this year because I think he's earned a spot (or I'd trade him if the value is there), but I don't think there's reason to believe he's the answer if Pickens leaves next year. Brown might not either, but I'd keep him around to find out if he can move up the depth chart.

Obviously Dak. Then we have Milton, who still needs some polishing but is looking better, and Sam Howell, who looks like he could be very serviceable if called upon as well.

I'm feeling good about it.

PRE SEASON games lol
you cant know what either one would look like or do in a real game with say phil or the rams, ravens,even the giants.
The coaches will make that call ,based on their criteria.
Tonight it looked like the old milton was back ,so that makes me think he still isnt there yet.
