I hope you realize that every player on the current roster, draft picks, free agent signings, and trades, were all brought in by McClay. In his position, he brings in the players and types of players the coaches want. That’s how it works. If things are better, it’s because Schottenheimer and Parker both know what the hell they want and need.

I find it interesting that you must not know we are changing defense. We are!!! That means different personal (players) are needed. Therefore it makes sense we trade players (Osa) and cut players who don't fit the new scheme.

Of course you know that but won't acknowledge it because that would hurt your narrative we have to keep reading over and over.

Sure is a lot of drama, lol.

I appreciate that Schottenheimer and Parker seem to have more influence on the active roster than some previous coaches but McClay has a demonstrated history of trying to give cowboy coaches what they want.

In fact, some of the challenges we’ve had has been because McClay tried to accommodate each DC and with us going through them like socks, no scheme ever had the right fit across the roster.

Yeah I wish there was some like tag that could be applied to sensationalist threads lol but forums are forums so is what it is.

Even with Bell they’ve been raving about his ST ability and CP likes his LB/S hybrid flex. He had a nice pick on Dak a couple weeks back in camp too. Don’t think he’ll be asked to be a traditional S. Ideally they’d want him to be a ST demon (needs to clean up penalties) and an occasional rotation position-flex guy.

Carson is one of those “nobody beat him out and we need a 4th CB on the roster” kinda things. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s replaced or barely sees the field at all barring injury.

Wood will make it to PS I believe.

Really good post.

I do not see how any could disagree with you on the extreme pattern of scouting/drafting/evaluation of d linemen incompetence.

Additionally, I'm not as sold on Booker as most. So I'm not overly impressed with the oline scout guys since the Tyron, Zack, FredBeard and Tyler run of oline draftees.
Unbelievably extreme decline in recent oline talent.

Good call.
This is the core of the problem.
Football is still won on both lines of scrimmage.
When you don't have anyone who knows how to pick dlinemen or olinemen you will suffer extreme consequences like 30 year droughts.
Simple as that.

I’m not gonna disagree with that, but it’s a helluva lot better than when Jerry and his Scotch buddies were making the board.

Check out the drafts of the late 90s and early 2000s. You can see why they won ten games in three years against teams not from Washington,

McClay ain’t perfect but it’s way better than Jerry and his kid are gonna pull off. I want them gone too, but that’s just not how it is.

McClay inspite of Jerrys shanaggins has drafted some good players.

These cuts, this year seem spot on. I never was as excited about Blue, like many on this forum. Then again im not from Texas and didnt see him play College ball. Im sure he and/or Mafah will end up on the practice squad.

Whoever has been calling the shots, McClay or Jerry or Charlotte, talent hasn't been much of an issue. The coaching without a pair hanging, has been the issue. Yes men and player's coaches, have been. My opinion

Such a stupid take. This is laughably bad. The actual talent he has drafted when compared to the rest of the league puts him near the very top. Please educate yourself. And please dont counter with some stupid "how many SBs" nonsense because that brings in a whole new slew of factors beyond player talent.

Not convinced Booker is of the Larry Allen or Zack Martin type of "safe" offensive guard talent I would be looking for as far as positional impact at pick #12.

I believe CowboysFaninHouston did a really good positional impact post on this subject when he was drafted.

And I fully agreed with him.

Just my opinion.

Other posts have touched on this, so let me throw in my two cents:

The entire premise of this thread is false. The Cowboys have changed their defensive scheme. Will McClay's job is to help look for players the coaches want to fit that scheme.

Getting rid of players McClay picked for a previous regime is not an indictment against McClay for picking the wrong guys. It's just that those guys no longer fit what a different coaching staff wants to do.
