FEATURED *** Dallas Cowboys Initial 53-man roster ***

I got to hope they will find a way to replace Shelton,he CANNOT play at all and he is atleast 2 years away.

And if teams want, they can protect the same four players all year long. So it's essentially like having a 57 man roster in that regard.
Yeah, it's really changed the way teams view the roster. Now, you are trying to protect guys you feel might be poached by keeping them on 53 (like Shelton) and waiving players that either can't be claimed because they are veterans or you don't think will be claimed. Because of that, you can go long at one position and short at another IF you feel like you can definitely get some of the depth players you want on the practice squad.

I did think that we'd keep Blue as a third tailback (because we'd figure he'd be claimed), but if we didn't feel he really showed us more than Mafah or Abanikanda, then they know they will get one or two of those backs to the PS and be able to call them up for games.

so they cut mafah? think they bring him back after waivers?
I think both he and Abanikanda will make the PS while Blue will get claimed by someone tempted by his speed. Of course, most teams keep only three backs at most, so there's not a lot of wiggle room to claim a back unless you just don't like your third guy as much.

Some of these moves and players kept. Could be because they are working on a trade, and could not expose them to waivers.

a player like Bell. Or Carson or both.
Maybe even Schoonmaker.

and what exactly did schoon do........ in 3 years to deserve it?
When Ferguson was out with injury in 2024 Schoon produced at almost the same exact level. No reason to not keep him for depth in his walk season anyway. And who knows, maybe a team with a TE injury might give us something for him before the trade deadline.

not much except maybe special teams.
they keep alot of guys just for ST and then the ST are not that good ! lol
It'll be interesting to see whose inactive. I expect us to carry an eighth lineman and exempt third quarterback, so that will allow us to take 48 of the 53 to games (but two from the practice squad could be called up). I'm pretty sure Shelton and Camden will be two of the inactives. I would think one of the corners (Speed or Carson). That gets me to 50. I also think Overton is liable to be inactive unless Bullard needs more time to recover. The last spot is tougher because Wheat is a good special-teammer and so is Alijah Clark. If we bring up an RB from the practice squad, that adds one more inactive to our needs.

Although I'm fine with keeping Bell or Schoonmaker because I think they are better than some give them credit for being. I'd be good with trading either, along with Mingo, if we could get a late-round pick for any of them.

The top 5 receivers in the 2026 NFL preseason, ranked by total receiving yards:

  • 1. Jalen Brooks (ARI): 15 receptions, 222 receiving yards, 1 TD
  • 2 (tie). Kyle Williams (NE): 6 receptions, 166 receiving yards, 3 TDs
  • 2 (tie). Camden Brown (DAL): 6 receptions, 166 receiving yards, 2 TDs
  • 4 (tie). Simi Fehoko (ARI): 11 receptions, 164 receiving yards, 4 TDs
  • 4 (tie). Jordan Watkins (SF): 13 receptions, 164 receiving yards, 1 TD

all 5 of those guys made the 53 man rosters of their respective teams. Brown was not clearingwaivers.
Wow 3 of the top guys started their careers as a Dallas Cowboy lol

He played better than some give him credit for. He just has not had the opportunities.

He was not dropping easy passes as Trigg did.
He knows the play book as well.

For what it's worth, reports are Carson was better in camp and in practice than he was in preseason. But like you said, his roster spot feels like a placeholder until another corner gets here. And he only stays if a deal falls through.
It was the three penalties in the first quarter against the Seahawks that set the narrative for his entire preseason

He’ll he called dumb and undisciplined and penalty prone all season

Nobody really played well in that game.
Many did not. But Trigg stood out with some drops. I don’t think he can’t get better with a year on the PS but I don’t see any reason to get rid of Schoonmaker for him right now when he’s clearly a better player at this juncture.

We need the third tight end to block. Trigg doesn't block.
