Looking at where many of the defensive players from the 2025 roster have ended up is pretty telling on how awful things were:

Mazi Smith: released by Jets
Diggs: released by Packers/Seahawks
Kenneth Murray: free agent
Kaiir Elam: released by Chiefs
Sanborn: released by Bears
Sam Williams: released by Cowboys
Kneeland: RIP
Damone Clark: IR (Lions)
Juanyeh Thomas: released by Colts

These were all starters for the cowboys at some point last year. Pretty wild.

There’s no doubt that our new defensive coordinator looked at all of these stiffs that the great Will McClay has collected - over the years or had “unearthed-“ I’m laughing as I typed that.
And he said it’s time to start dumping these clowns.

I don't know if we can credit Christian Parker for the players we picked up. I do think the coaches have input each year because the Cowboys have said that is the way it works. Ultimately, though, it's a collaborative effort, so I don't think you can separate McClay from the moves that they've made.

I mean, I'd love to be able to pin all the busts on just one guy and get rid of that guy, but I don't think we can do that. We have input from coaches. We have input from scouts. We have input from the front office. And we have input from McClay.

If that had not been the case, I think we could truly blame all the suckage on Eberflus. This just shows that you are not going to get far with bad players. Now, what role Eberflus had in acquiring some of those players, I don't know. Did he push for Murray and Elam, for instance, or did he say I need a starting linebacker and corner and those were the players he was given?

I truly believe a lot of these coaches think they can coach them up, just like No-Schott and Eberflus purportedly telling Jerry that they could manufacture a pass rush without Parsons. That may have just been bluster by Jones to defend the trade, but not all coaches everywhere are involved in buying the groceries.

Im not sure i agree with all your logic here. McClay is good at his job. However, Jerrys staff has had to many blunders the last few years. Too many -1st and second round misses. Jayden Smith, Randy Gregory, and schoonmaker were 5th round picks at best.
Mazi was a herrendous pick. Jerry risk/reward BS has snakebitten this franchise.
McClay inspite of Jerrys shanaggins has drafted some good players.

These cuts, this year seem spot on. I never was as excited about Blue, like many on this forum. Then again im not from Texas and didnt see him play College ball. Im sure he and/or Mafah will end up on the practice squad.

This is a great example of why to not force a pick. We leaned into Mazi because he was a DT. We should have gone OT instead.

Yeah probably no, he's going to go somewhere maybe Washington maybe Seattle lol he hasn't done much and I could tell he wasn't going to stay because he was out there playing with the backups in the final game

Whoever has been calling the shots, McClay or Jerry or Charlotte, talent hasn't been much of an issue. The coaching without a pair hanging, has been the issue. Yes men and player's coaches, have been. My opinion

Talent in the right areas has been a huge issue.
