This front office can't stick to a decision about anything except that Dak is going to be their QB for as long as he can play. They carried Milton all season last year when he was a mess and now they cut him.

I also agree about the wasted pick for Milton, but I look at it as the coaching staff being in two different minset at both times.

The coaching staff and FO are taking this season seriously and are making tough choices and cuts, just like they did with Blue.

It's just a different vibe around dallas. I believe they feel they have to make the best decisions even if its a hard decision.

This is a move a team like Seattle would have made before their season last year. They were all about business.

Schottenheimer does seem to have a lot of say. More than I thought he would.

He’s a gamer for sure and can move. With the 1st string WR’s we have he could probably be pretty darn good. That’s what it’s all about. A guy that can function in the offense if Dak goes down. Not have to dumb it down. Last thing you need is a frustrated Lamb or GP with Milton sending airballs over there heads…

I actually like this. Milton is the type who will fold against challenging teams. Sam is the type that will scrap it out in a battle regardless who it is. In a battle, sam may have something like 2-3 int, but will also have 4-5 TD in the same game. Milton wont give you that. Sam has some of that vintage Kirk Cousins dawg in him. I like the move.

When sams back is against the wall he will put on the boxing gloves. He felt that way against Milton after the first 2 preseason games, and we seen what he did in the 3rd game (had some not so good plays, but he was letting that arm go to battle back into the game).

I am betting the cowboys wanted to see how Sam would perform under pressure, and they got their answer, not to mention he has shown that in real game action on other teams.

When it comes down to it, I want a QB that isnt afraid to put the ball in the air. Milton isnt safe, nor is he a chance taker.

Don't worry, it was the right move.

Exactly. He never played with an offense like this in Washington. He could get the ball to these guys in his spots.

There's only 2 reasons that people think Sam isn't a mental midget qb that is a Turnover magnet. One reason is they only watch Cowboy games. I won't get into the other reason due to site rules.

That second reason was put to rest when Warren Moon came into the league, anyone still thinking about it, is the problem.

I like Milton …. But does it really matter ? If Dak goes down for 5 games or more… they are screwed with either one.

In the meantime, it may fun to see if Milton continues to shape somewhat convincingly.

Needless to say, it probably won't happen overnight, but eventually we'll see enough to know.

It's Milton's inconsistency. You don't know who you're going to get from one moment to the next. Big plays are hard to come by, can't have a quarterback missing wide open receivers. Sam offers you the consistency you need to install a game plan.

I don’t understand the infatuation with Milton. I’ve seen plenty of QBs with strong arms and no touch. Plenty that can run because they can’t make the correct reads. Per Milton’s pattern, he showed promise. Yet, when the door was opened for him to secure the back up role, he faltered. Again. I wish him the best , but time is of the essence.

Like another poster stated.. Howell is a scrapper. He can make all the throws Milton can, yet running won’t be his crutch. Sure, he’s a gambler at times, which gets him in trouble..yet, you can count on him playing the same way everytime. And OC can coordinate around his those flaws.

That said, it’s hard to gameplan when you have no clue which Milton is going to show up. Dallas made the right choice.

Exactly. It's why he looked so good in preseason, teams gave him vanilla looks and the coverages were basic and easy to read.

The Cowboys also used practice to determine the backup too. I am betting Christian Parker's more complex packages gave Milton fits.

The Saints game was the one the coaches wanted to use to determine who the backup is. Probably wanted to stir up the competitive juices in Milton and Howell to see how they respond.

And what happened? Milton had his worst showing of the preseason, Howell had his best. Howell showed fight, Milton went back to overthrowing passes again.

Just my opinion.

It still might go that way. Dallas wants Milton back on the PS. Just has to go unclaimed by tomorrow.
