Troy Hambrick averaged 4.7 and 5.1 yards per carry his first two seasons. Limited carries generally produce better numbers. I like the Demearcado pickup, but I'd be careful about touting the numbers of a back whose only had 126 carries. Numbers can be skewed.

I agree. But he's RB 3 here so he will continue to get limited carries. As long as his role doesn't change his production shouldn't.

Not saying I'm worried about the signing. If Adams wanted him over Blue and Mafah, I'm fine with that. He's at least done more in the league than either of them.

I'm just saying I wouldn't make 6.5 YPC the hill I die on. Other backs have put up inflated numbers in a limited role where defenses don't really prepare for them and they may get more snaps in long-yardage situations, such as draws, than in short-yardage situations. I like his numbers. I like what I've read about his play. But it doesn't even mean that he's the best backup RB on this team.

Of course, Malik Davis also does not have a lot of carries (90) to establish that he is, either.

True. And I think he's a good pickup because of it. Third RB is a guy who might get some snaps to finish out a game and has to be able to play special teams. Both of those things seems to fit Demercado.

I don't really understand those complaining about the move, but I also don't want to build him up to be more than what he possibly is to defend the move.

Agreed. And I didn't know Demercado had 4.4 speed so he's the speed element in this backfield. Not that Williams and Davis are slow, but they aren't homerun hitters. Some real long runs against gassed defenses helped Demercados YPC.

One last thing I want to say: looking at some of the guys Dallas cut (ahem Sam Williams, Jaydon Blue, and others), they've been guys you can't really trust to do the right thing in crucial situations.

Makes me wonder if something else was going on with Milton we don't know about. Not saying he's a bad guy or teammate. Just wondering if there was "something".

Also, love that premise in general. It’s another thing that would tick off the “this is a different team” season. If the Clayton/Shotty offense and CP defense are actually effective and modern schemes PLUS us ridding ourselves of players who aren’t smart and dependable under pressure then we have taken care of the playoff silent killers we’ve had.

Predictable schemes, poor game management, and knucklehead plays have been the biggest issue to me in our playoff failures.

Cowboys had trade conversations about Milton​

My hypothesis seems to have been only partially correct. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported “the Cowboys did have some trade conversations regarding Milton before the cut down to the 53-man roster on Sunday.”

However, it seems like the Cowboys weren’t the ones initiating such conversations. That’s at least according to Bryan Broaddus of Crown Global Media.

“Did the Cowboys field calls about possibly getting their quarterbacks traded for on Sunday? Yes, that’s true,” Broaddus said on Jeff Cavaugnaugh’s YouTube show. “Did they try and trade Joe Milton before they released him? No, they did not.”

The timing of the whole thing was so odd that some speculated Milton might’ve asked for his release. There’s no truth to that story, according to Archer.

Howell led the NFL with 21 interceptions last year, and another big problem for him is that he sometimes holds the ball too long, resulting in 65 sacks. He threw the ball more than any QB and that impacts this metric, but Washington’s OL was at least solid, finishing 14th in pass-blocking win rate.

5 years from now when we moved on from Sam 4 years previous and Joe is still hanging around as some teams 3rd string QB, we will all laugh at this together.

All that is true, as is the 4,000 yards and 21 TDs he threw for that season as well.

He's a terrific backup option, and vastly superior to running a pro offense than Milton, who has been a colossal failure despite the strong arm.

This is going to be the start of us witnessing the career of the next Josh Johnson. He’s going to bounce around the league on so many teams rosters in the hopes that one day they’ll be able to tap into his ginormous potential…that can’t even help him outrush Sam Howell.

This team is different.

They are ridding themselves of the dumb players, guys who dont want to learn and are not team guys. The two big ones were Sam Williams and Jaydon Blue.

We do not know the whole story here. But there seems to be smoke coming
