I can’t do that though. He’s not a victim here. He got behind the wheel intoxicated. If the guy lost all of his money I’d say that was kicking while he was down. Getting addicted to painkillers and not getting help until you got caught is self inflicted. Getting behind the wheel intoxicated is your own decision.

And I have no problem with anyone kicking him over that. He deserves that criticism and possibly job fallout from his decision. To attack the sincerity of him owning up to it is different IMO.

I'd like to see him take the next step and not only own up to it but use his celebrity to champion against driving while intoxicated. Make it a platform. If it helps one person not make that potentially lives-altering decision, then it is worth it.

I think its fair though. WHen you make written statements like he did you kind of open yourself up to that criticsim especially when you wait so late to do it. And for the record I feel he owes us nothing. He owes it to himself and his family to get right. Thankfully he has the resources to do it. I understand addiction is a tough battle so hopefully he gets that sorted if he truly has a problem. One thing we know is he has the resources. We saw what Jerry was willing to do for even someone like Josh Brent.

CBS Sports NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has received three more citations connected to his July arrest, in which he was taken into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Wisconsin, court records show.

The new citations are for unsafe passing on the right, possessing open intoxicants and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to Milwaukee County court records that were filed Thursday. The initial citation he received in July was for refusing to take a test for intoxication.

I think if he does undertake what you mention in your second paragraph, it would go a long way in thinking he's sincere about this and not just doing all he can to massage public opinion to help save a high-profile, high-paying job. Even if it's in the form of helping now retired players deal better with their pain, etc.

Yeah, there's a lot of people out there driving around legally intoxicated on prescription medication. Just because it is prescribed does not mean it doesn't impair your judgment.

To me has nothing to do with a former player. He waited this long so his legal team could see what they're facing with trying to save his CBS job.

I have zero sympathy for anyone who drives while under the influence. None.

If he was sincere this would have been posted on day one right after it happened.

A long statement like this was carefully created by someone on his legal team and he signed it.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Legal prudence does not preclude sincerity or innocence. Tony is wise to move forward with careful, well-reasoned judgment in this matter. You don't do that by posting statements "day one right after it happens." The statement may have been written or reviewed by his legal representative, but that doesn't mean it fails to convey Tony's sincere message to the public.

That's exactly what I meant. He can't take back what he's done, but attacking the apology is what's sad.

Any surgery I've ever had, the doctor prescribed some type of opiate and said, "Stay ahead of the pain."

I'd just take them the first couple of nights, so I could sleep. I'd deal with the pain during the day.

Two reasons:
#1- "Staying ahead of the pain" is how people get addicted.

#2- I don't wanna add constipation to the mix.

Luckily doctors are moving away from this.

But it was this way for years.


I feel bad for Romo and his back pain. Honestly it must really suck to be in constant severe back pain.

He messed up. He just needs to learn and improve from it.

I didn't say he should have apologized on day one. I said if we was going to offer a sincere apology he should have done it on day one.

The moment that time passed, he should have just said, "I screwed up and put other people's lives as risk. I will learn from this and get the help I need so this never happens again." .. and that's it. That would a sincere apology. Even better, do it in person.

Instead, we get a legal document statement with his signature on it. Throw in the "that's not an excuse" which means it is line and it just compounds it.

That literally means nothing at this point.

That's exactly what I meant. He can't take back what he's done, but attacking the apology is what's sad.

It's not an apology. It's a legal document he signed.

And apologize would offer no excuses, no long-winded disclaimers. No lead-in paragraph about his accomplishments in life or the NFL team he played for or his job he has nor have to post a disclaimer claiming the excuses were not excuses.

That letter is pointless and worthless.
