Might be Dak's most important season yet

Not really, Mahomes was taken pick 15 and sat for a year. Jordan Love and Rodgers say for at least two years before starting, despite being taken round 1. Lamar Jackson sat a year before taking over. Sometimes it's best to actually take a QB round 1 and let them sit a year or two. Make sure they have time to actually develop, and they can actually learn a lot from Dak in one year. So, to me, I think you actually can justify, especially with the cap space we should have next year, letting a QB develop behind Dak for a year or two while taking them in the 1st round.
The Chiefs weren't competitive.
The Love pick was dumb.
The Ravens didn't have a good QB.

I dont' disagree that it is good for a QB to sit for a year but it is dumb to waste a first-round pick on a guy who isn't going to play on a competitive team. You're either trying to win or you're not.

I think this season might be Dak's most important season yet. As many of you know, I think Dak is a spectacular QB. I do appreciate that he's our QB and is a top QB.

However, on paper, we have a significantly more talented team than he's had in much of his career. As long as the defence is good and the offense is as dangerous as it was last year (along with Aubrey), I think this is an important season for Dak.

His contract expires after the 2028 season (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/19089/dak-prescott/contract/summary), but apparently has an out after next season that only costs $55 mil in dead cap.

So, I think, if the team is what I think it can be, then this division should be more than winnable for us, and a lot of people are saying that. I think that our best chance in the playoffs is to win the division. And I think from there, if our defence is decent, I think the pressure will be on Dak.

If things do not go as planned this year and we can't at least get to the division round (or, beyond if we have a home division round game too), I can see Jerry taking a QB next draft. I could easily see a new QB coming in and sitting for a year or two as, if nothing else, a leverage play for Daks next contract.
If he falters again, he's done in Dallas. Probably go win a SB in Washington....lol

Too many variables, defense can be great this year but suck in playoffs, and still dak will be blamed. In this case does dak get released or traded? It's a team sport, one man can't do it by himself.

If the defense can be decent...it will such a relief. We should be rid of THAT excuse...and can evaluate Dak's true value to this team.

I do NOT want to hear "Dak is the least of our problems with this awful defense!" He was and so was that defense!

Having said that...of COURSE Dak has value. I'm talking about for the ultimate prize. Is he the leader some say? Is he the top QB some say? Can he be a driving force for a strong playoff team without excuses?
Daks already proved his value to the team. They would’ve been 3-14 last year without him.

Joe Flacco was decent, and Alex Smith was a solid QB for them. Sure, they didn't advance much, but they were usually in the playoffs even then. Much like us, they couldn't get over the hump. And, when you have a QB like Dak, you can justify taking a QB in round 1 and letting them develop for a year, and then moving on from Dak after. That's totally justifiable. And chances are, that rookie, when ready, will have a damn good defence and elite receivers and a decent run game. You give him a year to develop, you can actually make a SB run with that after a year. Besides, rookie QBs don't win a SB. There's never been a rookie QB to start and win a SB. So, why not sit them for a year, and, year 2, when they've learned from Dak, let them loose.

That should happen before you move on. No gaps. Even an off-season.
Nope. If you draft a backup in the first round you are undermining the current year.

It's the same contradiction as when they drafted Zeke and then Jaylon.

No, they were bad.

Also a dumb pick.

And I'm pretty sure they thought Favre was retiring, so not exactly the same thing .
Rodgers was a "dumb pick"....

Exactly, and even with my talk of drafting his replacement, I'm thinking we do so early because he can teach the rookie how to be a pro. Let's face it, Dak is 33 and will be 34 next season. He's getting close to retirement for an NFL QB. Plus, Jerry's not going to want to go into a 3rd contract battle with Dak without leverage. So, I think, and it's justifiable, Jerry might draft a QB early to learn behind Dak.

How many starting 1st round QBs were busts?

Exactly, and usually it's because they're thrown into the starting role before their ready. We have the luxury of having a top 10 QB that's heading to the late stages of his career. So, if your starter has about 2 years left on his deal and he's at this stage with an out after next season, you can totally take advantage of that and get a rookie to learn. And chances are, with the team we have and should continue to build towards, they'll have a super dangerous team to work with.

I think you’re reading that chart a bit wrongs. They can be confusing because the dead cap can be accelerated all at once or split into two years, depending on when the transaction occurs

Dak Prescott Dead Cap Timeline (Post-2027 Cut)
TimelinePre-June 1 Cut Post-June 1 Cut
March 2028Entire $131.48M hits 2028 Cap immediately.$76.02M placeholder stays on 2028 Cap.
June 2, 2028No change.$76.02M becomes permanent 2028 Dead Cap.
March 2029$0 Dead Cap remaining.Remaining $55.45M hits the 2029 Cap.
Oh, maybe. But still, even with that, especially on a J1 cut or trade, we could still work with it if we took a QB next year to sit for a year or two.

Lol, I don't think he's off the team after this year. But I don't think Jerry will want to enter another contract battle in about two years without some kind of leverage. I think within the next two drafts, I see a QB being taken, and I think, if next class is as good as it sounds, Jerry might take advantage of that

It’s an interesting one to think about. If we have a QB in mind I can absolutely see Jerry going for it if Dak starts to show signs of regression.

The next one is probably the last QB Jerry gets to draft. It could be a legacy pick for Jerry similarly (sort of) to ozzy newsome trading up for Lamar Jackson his last year.

I don't think Milton is consistent enough. I'd love for him to go on the PS, but I see Milton as kind of a Josh Dobbs with a cannon.

I don't think for a minute we will get Archie. But I could see someone like Sellars being a good enough QB to justify being a late 1st round pick.
I don't know about that We're talking about two to three years from now I think that's where you're missing my point Milton has time to further prove that theory or not he has time to develop it took Sam Darnold Daniel Jones Geno Smith I mean here's a list so long I forgot some of them right now it's Malik Willis he's on his way back Like maybe if this guy stays here he doesn't have to take the long road to find a starting job to prove everyone wrong..

Just an example if Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love can sit and wait until they get their turn why can't Milton just humble himself and come here and finish what he started He was not wanted at his last stop in New England so here he is does he want to keep this ridiculous carousel going 'cause that's what the NFL is if you're gonna keep running around you're gonna get on some different offenses have to learn new terminology You have to learn the system and the players and the coaches this is the best place for him i'm just saying why doesn't this kid humble himself and come back I think he should already be signed back here and just let's see where it goes..
