Might be Dak's most important season yet

I don't think Milton is consistent enough. I'd love for him to go on the PS, but I see Milton as kind of a Josh Dobbs with a cannon.

I don't think for a minute we will get Archie. But I could see someone like Sellars being a good enough QB to justify being a late 1st round pick.
Arch Manning is not going to be a Dallas Cowboy he's going top 10 even on his worst draft fall Right now he's being labeled the 3rd best quarterback in this year's college football scene and there's a lot of good ones I was just looking at that list but there's no way the Cowboys can climb that high we're expecting big things from the Cowboys this year at least a playoff berth How in the world are they gonna ever be close enough And also a year that we've already talked about they have very limited draft picks this year they've traded a lot of them away how exactly are we gonna get Arch Manning from down in the bottom 10 minimum that will be picking in the draft?

You all have been saying this for a while it would take a mighty fall for Arch Manning to land anywhere in the draft that the Cowboys can even get near it's not happening..

I understand i'm a Longhorn and I would love for that to happen especially he's a Manning and yes I was looking at a lot of his tape from last year people said he didn't live up to the hype he did actually the offensive line was horrible most of the year it was horrible It was one of the worst offensive lines I've ever saw at Texas and there's been a few They didn't have a steady run game or a consistent target the man played better than it looked especially the way he finished the season even in a loss against Florida Watch him with the pressure yes teams are gonna see this and he is not slipping out of the top 10 he will probably go top five and in this draft coming up there might be three quarterbacks taken in the top five maybe more This is a year to get quarterbacks would be 2027 draft but cowboys won't be anywhere in the zip code for a few of those anyway but it is deep so maybe they go after another one of those guys...

It doesn't necessarily have to be a QB in the top 10. Let's not forget that Lamar Jackson was picked late in the 1st, and it wouldn't be someone that'd be starting right away. If we were to pick a QB round one, theyd probably sit for a year or two, which would actually be of great value too.
Correct but that won't be Arch Manning And yes the Rams just got high at 13 I think that's where Patrick Mahomes was taken but I just don't think they're gonna do that I don't think they're gonna waste a first round pick in a year where they have very limited picks you know we talk about other things here right do you forget we just talked about how many draft picks they've traded away the last three seasons so this upcoming draft doesn't have a lot of draft picks,

The only way that happens is if they trade away George Pickens, Seriously that's going to happen anyway So what are we going to get for Pickens It should be quite a bit then maybe they do that but I doubt it I don't see them thinking of more than say a 3rd round pick on a quarterback but I think the Cowboys are in a place where they've seen guys like Matthew Stafford and Peyton Manning and other players move around even Sam Darnold they will go get their quarterback of the future when they're ready it'll probably be already in the NFL that's why I keep saying why not try to develop Milton further develop him see where it goes..

In the end you just get a bridge guy I mean where are all these super planners of these other allegedly real GMS around the league I mean what are the Cardinals doing at quarterback this year I mean look at the money that Miami had to eat And what are they going with Malik Willis they already overpaid him I don't care what he turns into Teams do not always plan ahead and they're not always right with the guy they picked as the future guy..

That's a mixed bag at best I mean you look at how Detroit end up with golf I mean look around the league these guys do not just grow on trees they're they're hard to draft and they're even harder to find in the league But the Cowboys can find their guy without going into the draft..

Here we want to talk about Peyton Manning got a ring with the Broncos they got their ring They didn't have to do it in the draft, The Rams did it the same way Matthew Stafford got them a ring, darnold got seatle a ring, Purdy got them to a SB, That option is out there something Jerry would be more comfortable doing than what you're talking about they got Prescott in the 4th they got Romo undrafted and they look around and they can probably find more success in a NFL quarterback..

These are not extending yourself in the first round examples and I could just keep going if you'd like..

LOL. This is Dak's 11th season and he hasn't gotten it done yet. I don't know why you would think this is a make-or-break year. Jerral won't move on from him until the contract is up, and maybe not even then.

Dak is a great qb when the pressure isn't on him. In the playoffs it's a whole new game. He gets that look and it's all over. He has to overcome that. I don't think he can. If he somehow does and wins a SB everyone will look at him different. This is a very important year for him. Just his luck he has the Rams in the way. He needs to get us to the championship game at a minimum. Hope he can.

Yes it's Prescott's 11th season in the league with several very flawed rosters You know like Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford how come Sam Donald didn't win a ring somewhere else I mean you act like the quarterbacks responsible for the records and the defeats and he's not Romo and Dak are way much the scapegoat around here and I'm sick of it i'm just going to leave it at that you're wrong yes 11 season with three historically bad defense many years with not so good an offensive line in the playoffs the skill players just poop their pants and they didn't have anything when it counted.

The irony in here is a guy like Matthew Stafford couldn't get it done in Detroit gets traded for gets lucky ends up on the Rams team everyone's talking nothing but the Rams but how about the fact that he let the league in interceptions and threw two interceptions in the Super Bowl and he still won the Super Bowl and you're acting like the quarterback if he makes a mistake it's his fault when they don't win one But when they do you don't talk about all the mistakes/ Nearly threw a third one in that game. You know what when you have a great defense and a great team and a great coaching staff these things go unchecked by fans and I'm gonna check them i'm gonna tell you you need to open your eyes the Dallas Cowboys have had very little actual Super Bowl rosters when they get to the playoffs the team melts down mostly because of the coaching staff the depth and those players who look like in the regular season they were great they were never great it was a mirage they were great against worst teams..

It’s an interesting one to think about. If we have a QB in mind I can absolutely see Jerry going for it if Dak starts to show signs of regression.

The next one is probably the last QB Jerry gets to draft. It could be a legacy pick for Jerry similarly (sort of) to ozzy newsome trading up for Lamar Jackson his last year.

Exactly, and that's partly why I think he might. Plus, Stephen (or Jerry), like I said probably won't want another contract battle with Dak. So, if there's a viable option that can develop behind Dak for a season, I think they might pull the trigger.

That is why I made it very clear that in no way shape or form do I think it'll be Archie. I was trying to negate anybody that is thinking I'm referring to Archie. I'm more referring to someone like a Sellers or a CJ Carr who might justify a mid/late 1st selection and can sit for a season or two.

Really so the fact that Matthew Stafford led the league in interceptions couldn't get it done in Detroit comes to the Rams leads the league in interceptions yes I said it twice throws 2 interceptions in the Super Bowl and apparently you think that he won that Super Bowl because of how great he was or was it the great defense great special teams a great coaching staff much like Troy who also made mistakes in the playoffs I remember a Super Bowl game he looked like trash in the first half and his team bailed him out that is what great teams look like so I don't want to hear about how he folds up in the playoffs.

You didn't want to know who folds up in the playoffs those very players that are supposed to block for him that are supposed to run for him that are supposed to pressure off of him Great coaching Staffs Cowboys haven't had one of those You know they're always playing checkers when everyone else is playing chess guys are not getting open they're dropping passes they're not running well they're not playing defense I don't see what you think you were looking at I look at a lot of these games and you think that somehow old Peyton Manning played well with the Denver Broncos I didn't see that he looked like a bus driver he didn't look like his old self,

But guess what these guys landed on teams that played great they were ready to win I'm sick of hearing about Prescott's mistakes in the playoffs when they all make mistakes in the playoffs players are fallible you have to have a team that's able to overcome those mistakes that is what a championship team does they don't play perfect they pick each other's games up when somebody's having an off game or an off first quarter..

Hearing about it I'm just sick of it 0 Prescott folds under pressure he's not good when the games count now maybe you ought to take a look at the rest of the team all the penalties on the offensive line that one game and the defensive line Hey all those penalties are on him huh They're all playing behind the change with no run game the offensive line was trashed the defense was trashed that is pretty much been most of the big games..

Facts Dallas Cowboys put all the blame on the quarterback without taking into account of how bad some of these teams have played in the playoffs as a whole Period end of story and by the way where's all that talk about maybe his first year as Rookie of the Year played very well against the Packers and lost because of the defense because of the coaching staff because the bad planning and play calling and yet he probably was good enough the offense was good enough to go to a championship game that year and all they had to do was leave a minute on the clock and the defense once again **** their pants...

That is what happened to Romo against the same Packers team This is what happens blame the quarterbacks when really if you go back and watch those games they are far down the list on how their mistakes actually cost them the game because it didn't I watched the 49ers be down to the Detroit Lions by the same amount in the 2023 playoffs as we were against the Packers and they made a comeback in the second half and our defense once again **** their pants Three straight touchdowns coming out of the half but we'll blame Prescott for that mistake in the first half when really it wasn't his receivers breaking off routes and going rogue or not being able to pass the ball because they're interfered with all it must have been Prescott...

Because Dak will be 35 or 36 when his contract is up, and he might only have a few seasons left. And again, I don't think Jerry or Stephen will want to go into a 3rd battle with him without some kind of clear and obvious plan of succession. And, with the team that's being developed, a QB that would have had a chance to learn a season or two behind Dak would be quite the formidable option.

Too long to read.

Oh, maybe. But still, even with that, especially on a J1 cut or trade, we could still work with it if we took a QB next year to sit for a year or two.
Rusty, thanks!

I deleted my numbers. Yours are more accurate

if these next two years don’t work out, then 2027 off season would be doable. Keeping him through 2028 would end up with a “ghost money” hit of less than $30m but that would be Dak as a lame duck and unless he was actively announcing a retirement, I don’t want to think about the drama.

And again, I like Dak. I'm one of his biggest supporters on this forum. However, I am also aware that he's 33 (in part because I'm only older than him by 7 months). So, he's probably about in his prime as a starter. So, he probably has about 3 years of that at best. So, with the team we have around him, it's not a bad idea to start thinking about who the next QB might be.

You know what too bad so sad it's all true blame the quarterback without actually perspective and using other comps around the league that is what you all do and you're very wrong he does not fold under pressure his team folds on under pressure around him and you expect him to be Superman and actually come out of adult smelling like roses No That's not it and it never has been. that's not it and it never has been.

That would be the smart thing to do. I don't think Jerry will do it. He waited until Aikman was finished. He waited until Romo was finished and I'm afraid he'll do it with Dak. Jerry doesn't believe in drafting QBs unless they are pet projects of his.

He's part of the problem as the leader of this team. When the defense has a bad game he doesn't lift the team. He joins right in and has a bad game too.

Exactly, and, like I said, I'm one of Dak's biggest supporters on here. But the other thing I'm aware of is that he's 33 (I'm only older than him by 7 months). So, I think after this season, it might be wise to think about who the next QB will be. Part of the issue, going back to Aikman, was that Jerry didn't have a clear line of succession in place.

I DO NOT WISH THIS TO HAPPEN (not caps intended at you, but others who will accuse me otherwise). However, Aikman had a career ending injury basically that caught Jerry off guard, and it took until Romo was ready to play that we finally had a viable option (which was A..lucky, and B. Thanks to Sean Payton/Parcells). We drafted Dak in the 4th round in 2016. I highly doubt Dak was planned to be a starter. But, Moore's and Romo's injuries forced the FOs hands. So, it's probably wise (since I think Romo was about 35 when he got injured in 2016) to start planning for a successor, especially with our history when QBs get into their mid 30s, and I don't think we get so lucky a 3rd time.

It doesn't matter you like him or not like him you have to know the room just like I told people that how old would win that job over Milton and I knew that trick wasn't going to make it back and that other parts of this roster when it was being built I had a gut feeling because I can read the room and I know Jerry Jones and Steven Jones but I also know the rest of the league,

You do realize here our quarterbacks that they played into their 40s that played pretty Dang well guys who had switched teams and won Super Bowls why does that switch teams to be Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Matthew Stafford's the best example right now,

He is in great shape this is not the dad bod Tony Romo this is not the let myself get out of shape Big Ben or even Patrick Mahomes I don't know what he's doing with his body but he if you saw him on the street or at the gym you think he's a Jag like us..

When you see Prescott without his shirt on in shorts this dude's been working hard on his body and his diet There is nothing that tells me regardless if he gets injured every now and again like just about every player in the NFL some of them younger and much younger than Prescott can't stay healthy or couldn't stay healthy like Sean Lee and Lve or Overshown I mean this is football you have to come back from injuries that doesn't show your age or your health status...

I'm not saying that he'll play like he's in his prime but I think his body and his mind the way he eats his diet are in their primes he could play a lot longer just like Tom Brady did just like Peyton Manning and Peyton Manning was beat up Remind you of that and he went and won a Super Bowl elsewhere tom Brady those good example because later in life he got his mind and body right with diets and other things he did and prescott's following in that same mold he is in ridiculous shape right now. and Prescott's following in that same mold he is in ridiculous shape right now

His body can hold up in the NFL his mind is right there's no reason to think that you can't get two or three more good seasons out of them they don't even have to be great since when this being great again I already said it matthew Stafford led the league in interceptions through two interceptions in the Super Bowl I wouldn't call that playing great I mean yes in between there were some greatness but he didn't have to play perfect I think the problem here is people think that quarterbacks need to play perfect in Dallas so they don't and then they get blamed for all the big losses...

I think when you're looking at players you have to look at them as a case by case look at their bodies how they're keeping themselves in shape where is their mindset on when they might want to retire You look at a guy like Aaron Donald who kept himself in great shape didn't retire because of injuries really he was just ready to go mentally but mentally he's back and his body's still there and now he's gonna play this year after skipping 2 years well why does Prescott need to skip two years to elongate his career?

know the room, I'm saying this front office will keep him around as long as he can play well he does not have to play great he does not have to be in his prime This is like Romo in 2014 Everything around him was going well and everybody thought he was playing his best football but his body broke down He mentally did not want to come back from it either 'cause he didn't go play for another team he didn't try to come back here and compete for the job he just retired that is not where Prescott's mind is right now His body's not there either so I don't see why he can't continue playing cuz I think he's turning that very corner that Romo did in 2014 and he's playing some of his best football doesn't mean he's gonna be playing prime football it means he's seen the game better than he ever has he's feeling the game That means he can run an offense better than most he's right in that zone right now that Romo is in in 2014 but couldn't continue..

That's all you need from a quarterback if you know how to build a roster that's the problem around here he seldom has a championship roster or a great coaching staff That is how Super Bowls are won not how good the quarterback can play or not quarterbacks when things are going better around them they can be themselves that's when you're going to see them at their best and Prescott's never really had that at the right moments in the bigger games..

Dak has free reign .......... he could not play bad enough for them to replace him.

He's part of the problem as the leader of this team. When the defense has a bad game he doesn't lift the team. He joins right in and has a bad game too.
No he can't lift the team because it's not just bad defense bad offensive line no run game one dimensional football people not getting open breaking off routes I mean what exactly are you seeing 11 penalties on the offensive line is kind of hard to move the football..

I don't see how you don't know that he came back multiple times in 2016 in that gb game, It's not his fault that time was left on the clock and then once again Aaron Rodgers and the Packers make the Cowboys look bad in the playoffs..

I'm not sure how you don't see that How in the world can a quarterback lift up a team by himself it's not just the defense It's not just one small area of the team it is usually all the above in the same game penalties execution by the rest of the team is bad you expect one guy to do it all no it's never been done I watch football for a long time Yes if you have a shaky defense sometimes you're hoping that your offense can lift you up maybe a special teams play none of that happened because the blocking wasn't there the run game wasn't there people were not getting open on a consistent basis people were not running proper routes or they had a ton of penalties i'm telling you you're missing a lot of keys of these losses that had nothing to do with small mistakes by the quarterback...
