I just read Jerry Dumbo GM Jones profile on the Arlington Jonesboys website. Looking at his credentials of his tenure, then Clint Murchinson should be in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and NFL Hall of Fame.

Every accolade given to Jerry Jones for doing nothing as Johnson, Wooten, and Ackles built the team of the 90s, Murchinson deserves more and did more. Remember two the 90s team architects John Wooten and Bob Ackles were hired during Murchinson's ownership. Not trying to diminish Murchison's accomplishments at all, but he was born into a wealthy family.

If being rich enough to buy a football team and being smart enough to stay out of the way and let the football people do their jobs makes someone a Hall of Fame owner......than there should be a lot of them in the Hall. Just saying.

It's not every owner who makes the efforts to be as successful as Clint Murchison was. Certainly, he's entitled to receive the accolades and appreciation that he has so richly deserved. Much of the success that followed his ownership management and knowledge that he provided were very largely responsible for the championship success that followed his massive contributions. I often find myself wishing that he might have been the owner that has had the current team as his own. He deserves grateful adoration.

In 1958, to force Skins owner George Preston Marshall to vote for an NFL expansion team in Dallas, he also bought the rights to Washington’s fight song for $2,500 from the song’s composer, Breeskin.

He won a territorial war with AFL founder Lamar Hunt and the team that would become the Chiefs, which moved from Dallas to Kansas City in 1963.

Murchison was the driving force for the team’s early name change from the “Steers” and “Rangers” to the “Cowboys.”

Had a sad ending to his life with at the time largest bankruptcy in US history spending his last years in a wheelchair with nerve damage and died of pneumonia at age 63.

He is in Texas Sports Hall-of Fame in Waco.

If Canton recognizes Jerry's ownership because of what he accomplished with the franchise, I think it should recognize the guy who built the institution Jerry inherited. Murchison didn't just own the Cowboys. He created them. He created America's Team.

He assembled an incredible football operation and allowed Schramm, Landry and Brandt to run it. The result was 20 consecutive winning seasons, multiple Super Bowl appearances, and two championships during his ownership. He also built Texas Stadium, which became one of the defining landmarks of the franchise.

My bold take: put Clint Murchison Jr. in the Hall of Fame before Robert Kraft.

Nothing like that. Let's just say he had a wife and kids but was not exactly faithful; and he rang up some outlandish debts and took most of them to the grave.

I wouldn't call him a criminal or a wicked man at all. He just liked to have a "good time" and really loved to take financial gambles.
