Romo's BAC was reportedly 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit

How about if we start with the thing that was abused first his back playing NFL football.

HE GOT TREATMENT IN THE FORM OF SURGERIES IT DIDN'T WORK.

He got help in the form of painkillers that probably started to turn him into a junkie it didn't work.

So as he said in his statement he turned to alcohol for relief from the pain and basically became a functioning alcoholic.

So after I read all these posts saying I hope he gets help with his alcohol problem does anybody think there might not be an alcohol problem if somebody could fix the back problem.

Back pain is something that leaves you helpless like you're in a torture chamber if you haven't had it you don't understand.

Tony has probably lived this way for years getting by the best he could but it was only a matter of time before he got caught.

My opinion fixing the back problem would be the first thing so there wouldn't be a need to depend on painkillers or alcohol.
did you consider there is no way to fix the back so it does not hurt?

Most definitely my back hurts every day but I don't have the resources that Tony Romo does and I would think if there was a way to surgically fix it he would be able to afford to do it and get it done.

I think he's pretty much stuck with the way it is and he was just getting along the best he could and what he had to do to keep the pain at a manageable level did not coincide with what is acceptable in society.

Unlawful to drive with your blood alcohol at that level so he may eventually have to swallow his pride and hire somebody to drive him because of whatever medication he is going to be on to have to deal with the pain.

From his statement he has a team of doctors that's going to help him straighten his health out and maybe if they all put their heads together something will come of it.
What I do know is that he was too prideful to have somebody drive him to his grandparents that day and admit to them he was too drunk to drive this was a poor decision and an even worse one to attract attention to yourself by making a bad pass.

Well that's an incredibly long list of stupid decisions. There's no excuse.

Next you people will suggest he was fine to drive a School Bus because he was just dealing with pain.
^ known HATER!

Must be something other than football because it was WAY before any of this mess. Now ....he's taking advantage of a legitamate criticism.

In that case, why does Romo continue to play golf, a sport that involves constant twisting and contorting of the back?

A lot doesn't add up here.
Pretty simple because men hate getting old and giving up everything they once enjoyed because they aren't physically able to do it anymore.

They fight it tooth and nail

There was absolutely no way he could play NFL football but he can probably manage the pain to be able to get through a game of golf with the proper amount of alcohol and painkillers and then feel like hammered hell the next day or so.

For a guy like Tony who was a competitor the pain is probably still worth the price of being able to compete

I respect that about him, but don't get behind the wheel. He has the resources to hire someone to drive him anywhere he wants to go. Once again, thank goodness he or someone else did not get hurt.

Back pains one thing but that school bus driving thing is a bridge too far.

That's some cruel and unusual punishment right there

Lol

Well that starts today. His License to drive is suspended.

100% brother you are totally correct he should have swallowed his pride and just called somebody to drive him.

But I honestly believe that he had developed so much tolerance and driven that way so many times that it was almost commonplace.

If he was going to an airport or something maybe he would have done it but he told the police he was going to his grandparents.

Looking at it that way I just don't think he could bare to go to his grandparents and have to tell them he was too drunk to drive

Agreed they just come up with a number that's supposed to cover everybody from Andre the Giant to Ogla Korbut

Circumstances alter cases and Tony didn't look double the limit drunk at the sobriety test just looked like he'd been out in the sun all day.
While I like that you agreed with me, your logic is off.

Olga Korbut was 86 pounds -- she's maybe got 3L of blood.

Andre the Giant was 520 pounds -- he's got like 16 of blood.

Do you need me to explain how BAC is calculated? Alcohol over blood volume.

More simply -- the bigger you are the harder it is to hit a higher BAC.

*** are they teaching people in school these days? Back in my day, a middle schooler would have torn your argument apart.

As a trial attorney, that BAC makes the case substantially more difficult to defend. Geesh. NO damn excuse for him getting behind the wheel.

If you are caught drunk driving, you should pay the maximum penalty
at the very least a heavy fine and a year revocation of your license the first time
and frankly if it happens again it should be jail time and permanent loss of license

My bad I didn't convey that properly at all.

Meant that Andre the Giant could consume a lot more alcohol than ogla Korbut and not be drunk.

And that Tony after obviously building up a tolerance and having done this for quite a while since his back surgeries did not appear double the limit drunk in his sobriety test to me.

and Tony is not a small guy really
yeah for the NFL he was not very big but when looking at the population as a whole he is definitely bigger than most

Because of their size -- and the BAC % would reflect that. It is a % FFS

In the 2008 Hard Knocks featuring the Cowboys, I remember Romo jokingly wondering to Stephen McGee if he drank enough beer in college to fill up an enormous inflatable Bud Light can that was near the practice field.

Dude loves beer.

I think Tony's playing weight was around 220.
If he is between that and say 240 that's a pretty good size man that I would think could consume a few drinks especially after building up a tolerance and not be very impaired.

But the legal limit is what it is and being twice over that is pretty tough to defend.
