I Won't Lie. I'm Still Mostly Checked Out Because of Last Year

There was a lot of leftover players from the last four or five years still on Zimmer's team and Eber flew his team and it wasn't just garbage players by design there was a massive historic amount of injuries the last two years to the defense and they felt it bringing over desperation players and other people's practice squad players so yes some of it is to do with Matt but Matt not being fired mid season I understand nothing was gonna change so why do it make him be part of the criticism make him wallow in it I would make him Coach to the end of the year as well and have to hear all the backlash he would have been paid to get out of town and I think that would have been letting him off the hook..

Yes there was a problem with coaching and a problem with the system and the players but remember it wasn't just Jerry not giving these guys enough there was an historic amount of injuries and if you'd like me to go count them all up from the last two years I can do it for you I mean I could I could find out comparative to other teams and how they've reacted because I seen when San Francisco two years ago I believe had a rash of injuries on defense they weren't good either..

Injuries matter and we had a historic amount of injuries coupled with bad coaching and a bad scheme that nothing fit the roster it was time for a big purge and now it's arrived..
I don’t disagree, was more like wondering how that pushed things past a point when the goings on not too long before did not.

Eberflis is by no means a bad football coach, but he is also one of many cases in point that you need the horses to make it happen.

That's right I'm just saying I see it from a big picture full perspective There was too many leftovers from the last three or four defenses lots and lots of injuries I mean it's insane of how bad the injury bug hit the defense and all the same places and people wonder why we had practice squad guys starting and how it also affected the special teams the special teams dips a lot of their players from the starters especially on defense That is why it was so bad last year..

This is why when you have a top five offense with a top seven scoring offense with all that talent on offense that you only win 7 games it's because 2/3 of your team was bad and it wasn't just the coaches.

Absolutely not. After this off season? This has been the best off season since.......well Jimmy was still here.
Almost every team’s fan base says the same thing every year but they don’t get the annual over hyped attention from the media and their own fans.

It’s all on paper right now so it doesn’t mean a thing until they start playing actual games.

The title says it all. In all my years as a fan, I've never seen a hire as bad as Eberflus. And everything that happened because they refused to fire him until it was too late just kinda made me lost interest. I didn't choose to be unenthused; the vibe from last year just makes me very skeptical about this year even tho BeeberFluff is no longer in Dallas.

Something about last season still has me mostly checked out as a fan.

Anyone else feel similarly?
The combination of 30 years of mismanagement stacked on top of each other has body slammed any enthusiasm out of me.
It’s amazing to me how a few good off season moves has every one all excited for the season.
It’s like the past never happened.
I will get excited when we make a NFCCG
Until then my expectations are at ZERO

Yeah it was a mishmosh of many situations, some were not so great. Three DCs in three years. The personnel was never quite right…..all of which feels nearly the opposite right now. Seems as if we have a DC with a solid scheme and the players being acquired fit it well. Hence, the optimism.

Still keeping my expectations low because I don't know how that's going to gel,

So yes it's encouraging to see that they planted the tree You see the tree growing but you don't know if it's gonna bear fruit it could take more than one off season to see this have more impact but yes I I'm definitely looking forward to it but I'm keeping my expectations down because it might take longer for it to start paying off with some fruit..

This goes way beyond the stench of last year; it's the stench of the last 30. The positives of some trades from last year, the draft and some offseason stuff definitely is the most encouragement we can have as Cowboys fans. However, encouragement doesn't win Super Bowls; it's on-field performance. I think the first half of the season will be telling, and if we are in a race and the team is showing fruits of the labour, then my excitement will peak. Until then, I roll with the punches and overreactions that 32 NFL teams are showing. ie..I have been checked out for years, but it takes a lot to check me back in

No I do not feel that way at all.
It is a new season, and many positives all off season long.
Always excited for when the season starts, as to anything can happen.

I look back as last years travesty. It was the defense and Eberflus that let us down. But injuries were a huge reason, Eberflus failed to adapt and change.

On paper it all seems to have improved tremendously. And I think it will show on the field. We seen it for the back up in the PS games. So that tells me the starters will be ready to go.

Yeah, because they could be much, much better but still not advance any further than usual. That’s on my expectation list.

I just want to play some tough defense. The offense will do its part. I think the parts are there, just a matter of doing it and everyone but one team is gonna fail….but I also think they are set up to be serious contenders for the next few years. So, winning a SB this year isn’t something I expect, nor is this group done if they don’t.

If we’re talking checked out like every sunday being reserved for Dallas and having them control my week..just being a mega fan in general?

I checked out during 2008….to close Texas stadium like they did was embarrassing to the legacy of the stadium and to finish losing 44-6 on the road in a win or go home game caused me to revert to a casual fan

However this offseason im impressed….i dont care about wins or losses i care about playing smart, filling holes on the roster (obvious holes) and i just wanna have fun watching the team

And Caleb Downs being drafted also helps with that

Feel the same way, but if you've seen the Garrett/Rob Ryan pairing...well...par for the course.

Until we turnover this Jerry/Dak regime, we are being led by 2 delusional guys who are the best at what they do...but think they are.

I'm not checked out. In fact, my curiosity is quite high for this season.....cautiously, of course.

For me, a sliver of hope started with the hiring of the DC. An up-and-coming young coach and not a retread? That's a refreshing and encouraging sign. Then the roster being put together has raised some hope as well. There are some good pieces on this team. Yeah, there are some question marks, but I'd say it's fair to say that all NFL teams have their question marks.

So, yeah, while I'm excited for the season as a whole to start, I would say my interest in the Cowboys is fairly piqued.

Now, looking at the entire picture over the last 30 years? Yeah, I'm tired, boss. I've seen the end of this book 1,000 times, and I'm ready for a new chapter to be written.

OK, thanks

How can you possibly be "Checked out," But yet you are here in a Cowboys fan forum reading and posting. Checked out means you aint paying attention to any Cowboys stuff.

Id hate to see you when you were "Invested," whatever that actually means.
You just love putting people through your "purity tests".

Get a life.

I understand your pain , but I have let last years embarrassment go. This is a brand new team full of winners from top to bottom, if this team can stay healthy, I see a deep playoff run. This team is already showing tremendous chemistry , no time for Eberflunk. I see an offense that could average in the 30 s and a defense mixed with wily veterans and young playmakers. Good Post, Go Dallas Cowboys.

I would say at least a third of the fanbase feels the same way. Nostalgia brings us back. Hope brings us back but that is fading. The Jones family is a cancer and it is hard to get too pumped with them involved.
Ding, Ding, I know your right and this is where all team killing drama has come from in the last 30 plus years. From the owner and failed general management man and little Stevie. BUT I love me some Cowboys since 1973 , this team will win despite the negative elements that certainly exist.

Are you capable of analyzing this past offseason without bringing up Dak or Jerry, or hanging on to every word Jerry says and worrying about the last 30 years? I am genuinely interested in what you think of all the moves we’ve made. I’m probably just as skeptical as you are, but I’m judging what was done without all the other BS.

I think we’ve made some good moves, drafting, coaches and some trades. But I’m not going to get excited until I see it on the field.
