We're 8 days away from gameday - who do you guys think will be inactive week 1? My guesses:

Camden Brown - not quite ready for primetime and not as big of a ST contributor as others best I could tell from preseason.
Drew Shelton - obviously not ready to play (no Leverett elevation either, Bass backup C).
Caelen Carson - I think Ameer Speed is active over him for ST purposes.
Tyrus Wheat - this was hard because he plays teams and gives you a little rush, but I still think they go Houston active.
Jonathan Bullard - I have no idea if he's healthy? If he is, then I could see LT Overton being inactive instead.

Demercado, Schoon and Bell/Clark aren't crazy suggestions either, just less likely IMO. What do you guys think? A few different ways this could go given how they prioritize special teams contributors. Knock on wood anti-jinx for no injuries the next 8 days.

I think you’re instincts are good on this

Bullard is injured and Shelton is simply not ready. I’d be really surprised if either dress

Giants are thin at WR, so speed makes sense

I would think out of all of these, Houston is a good bet against Dart. I want him to be as uncomfortable as possible

I think your math is off. I think you can only have 46 on the game day roster and then call up two players from the practice squad which adds up to 48 that means that you need to have seven inactives. I think.

If they carry 8 offensive linemen, then there are five inactives.

I'd have Carson over Speed for special teams purposes. I don't really remember Speed standing out on ST.

Think you need one more to reach 47, which is what we can carry if we carry an eighth OL. Probably is going to have to come from the safety group. Don't think we'd go with just two tight ends or two tailbacks. I'd project Clark for the moment because he's strictly a special-teammer at this point.

Six. They have a 53-man roster, so the eighth OL gives us 47. You can carry 48 if you have a third QB on the 53 that you designate as the emergency QB.

The two callups have to replace players on the 53 on the 46-man active roster. They don't increase the active spots. The only increases are for an eighth OL and emergency QB (but that player has to be on the 53).

Right, so the only way he could be on the active roster is if we called him up and he counted against one of the spots. That's why I think we'll only take two QBs to games.
With 8 OLineman, the gameday roster is 48. 53-48=5

With 7 OLineman, the roster is 47. 53-47=6

I am not including the potential two call ups from practice squad or the emergency QB.

The simplest way to think about the active roster rule:

48 players can be active, as long as 8 of them are offensive lineman. And spots 47 and 48 can come from the active roster OR the practice squad.

(I tend to ignore the emergency quarterback rule, which technically could create roster spot #49 on game day, because I don't think it's ever actually been used in a game yet)

8th OL gives you 48 and emergency QB gives you 49.

Either Wayna Morris or Marcellus Johnson or Shelton will be active.

They only want B. Jones to practice at RT.

Tyler Smith would only practice at LT if he is going to start there.

Hard to argue this. Carson and Shelton are major disappointments.

Thanks. Maybe he will be active over Carson then. I can't see both being active ... and don't like the possibility of Carson playing corner in a game with injuries.

It appears you are correct. If you carry an eight OL on the game-day roster, you get an extra spot in addition to the OL. So it's 46 without an eighth OL, 48 if you carry an eighth OL and 49 if you carry a third QB who is on the 53 as the emergency QB.

I had never realized that you got an extra spot in addition to the OL if you carried an eighth, but I just read it.
