I Won't Lie. I'm Still Mostly Checked Out Because of Last Year

LOL, I know.. I get it. Just pulling at strings/busting b's. The fact we still have to go back 30 years to feel good about our fanhood though... you gotta admit, it sucks. Regardless of other team's history.
nah, my life doesnt revolve around us wining or not. I was at the OBJ one handed catch game with my daughter at Met Life. I was at the Dez catch game in Green Bay with my daughter, I was at the 2014 game in Seattle when we broke their long home winning streak. I was at the insane Giants game for the home opener last year. Those are all amazing memories, whether we won or lost the game is secondary to the time I spent with my kid, enjoying the team we both love. Wins or losses dont make my day. Dont get me wrong, Im crushed when we lose.... but that is sports.

The NFL was founded in 1920 The Browns were part of a rival league, The All American Football Conference, and began play in 1946 When that league folded, the Browns joined the NFL in 1949. No doubt you remember when the owner moved the team to Baltimore in 1995, and the Browns lay dormant until 1999 when the NFL brought the team back to life. The Ravens are the original Browns, although the league let Cleveland keep all of the records and accomplishments for the history books.
I wasnt asking for a history lesson. Anyone my age(56) knows all of that. The nfl is judged, essentially, by the SB era, not NFL championships when they had like 8 teams.

I completely understand op.

I’ve probably checked out too years ago if “checked out” means not allowing any hype to get me excited and not any loss get me down.

There was once upon a time where I would get upset over a loss and would get truly excited about the potential to do something great entering a season. Not anymore, not for a while.

Even a 17-0 season wouldn’t do much for me going into the playoffs. I would believe that’d we’d be the first and only ever undefeated team to not even make the conference championship.

If we make conference championship, ill get excited again. Until then, im “checked out”

You did not know all of that. You asked whether they were an original team. You can now be crabby from an informed basis.

The title says it all. In all my years as a fan, I've never seen a hire as bad as Eberflus. And everything that happened because they refused to fire him until it was too late just kinda made me lost interest. I didn't choose to be unenthused; the vibe from last year just makes me very skeptical about this year even tho BeeberFluff is no longer in Dallas.

Something about last season still has me mostly checked out as a fan.

Anyone else feel similarly?
I feel bummed out every year the Cowboys aren't contenders. It doesn't have to be a 7 win season. I didn't feel any better when the Cowboys won 12 games three years in a row but were paper tigers. If you can't beat a good team, and you get crushed against good teams on the road, who cares what your record is? Give me 7 wins and the better draft pick instead of being embarrassed in the playoffs.

Great post. I just think different people have different ways of describing the same thing. Which are disappointing seasons and losses. I don't even think the OP is checked out. Just not overly excited about the upcoming season. I was like that going into the 2014 season after 3 crap seasons in a row. Then everyone in the media trashing the Cowboys. They ended up being contenders that year. You never know. All of these so called experts are no better than you or me.

I removed my emotions from this team after the 09 clusterfudge draft. I will never give up or check out.

Hard to keep my emotions for the team down right now, as for the first time since 09 we appear to be headed in the right direction. Everything we've done this offseason makes sense. Well, starting w/ the trading of Micah and the acquisition of Q. The complete makeover of this D w/ talent everywhere is just hard not to get excited about.

Why I I'm just really curious do you think that these proper DMS are not losing games losing seasons and having terrible football teams just to be fired and then the next GM also has losing teams and then he gets fired that's the only difference There are no perfect gems in this league that are winning on a regular basis a lot of Super Bowls that last one was Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots stacked it together and then you had Kansas City both in the AFC by the way everyone else has sporadic win record how they win the divisions and different people are ending up in the Super bowl all the time. How they win the divisions and different people are ending up in the Super Bowl all the time

I'm just trying to figure out how you think that having a regular GM that you think is better even though our GM is now about 35 years experience running a team running businesses he's been around football people enough you're telling me that he don't know anything and the people that help him which by the way the real GM here is Will Mcclay he doesn't have the title but he has to duties.

I mean I get what you're saying you need a scapegoat so Jerry can't fire himself but if he fired 10 GM's in that same span the last 30 plus years you it would have made you happier even if the result is the same the result was most likely gonna be the same because Jerry and Steven still own the team and I hate to break it to you even if this was the bigwigs the people at the very top they are basically owners They still have the final say in all the decisions it has to be ran up the flagpole and approved no matter what..

I want to make sure that you understand that I both understand what you're saying but I don't think you get help it would not have changed much it just fire these guys much more but I want to know why all the regular GMS on teams that have never won a Super Bowl I mean they just got fired they over and over and over the last 100 years and they still haven't won a Super Bowl yeah those regular GM is that ones we're talking about the ones that run the Washington and New York teams that the Cowboys have been stomping on for a decade you mean those GM's?

Into the narrative that the Cowboys beat up on weak teams all the time why can't Cowboys who have a terrible GM be beat up on regular teams ran by regular GM's I understand your thought process here your philosophy is flawed..

That is the only difference is those guys get fired more often and replaced so now fans feel better because people are constantly fired but the results seem to be the same I haven't seen a team that has changed their entire front office and coaching staff and all of a sudden they become great and all of a sudden win a Super Bowl that year because yes according to fans that's the blueprint just fire your GM on a regular basis get you a new coaching staff on a regular basis and it just leads to winning Or wait why are they being replaced all the time are you saying that they are bad as well?

Think about it deeply and then get back to me. lol
I completely agree that having a GM alone doesn’t guarantee you’re going to win games or trophies. But history says you’re more likely to win one with a proper GM who has all the control and power to do the job than if you don’t.

Name me a team who has played in a conference title game in the last 30 years where the owner had also done the GM job to serve their own narcissistic needs.

What do they say about stupidity being an attempt to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result? We might have a new coach and new players. It’s not the first time we’ve seen that, but the rest of the organisation looks and works the same as it’s always done. Why do you think the result will be any different?

I started checking out when we drafted Quincy Carter.
The beginning of the Garrett era is when I checked out for good, but it started the day the leaked video of Jerry's comment about the Parcells hire went public. I knew then Jerry wasn't serious about competing for super bowls, and to this day that hasn't changed. Jerry does just enough to get people off his butt and nothing more.

I can relate. I do think the Cowboys will be a better team this year, but do I think they are SB bound? No not yet. But I remember feeling that way back in 1992. Wasn't sold on the team until they got in the playoffs and beat the Eagles and 49ers back to back. It had been close to 15 years since the 77-78 SB Champ season.

but it doesn't!! its inconclusive given there aren't enough teams that have tried it the way Jerry does it,

INCOMPLETE DATA..

umm ok..i stand by my comment...no guarantees or better odds either way!!

For the first time, it truly seems that Jerry is stepping back. I’m not predicting the results but I hope he keeps taking a backseat.

I never asked if they ate an original team. I don't believe i ever mentioned anything about original until you or someone else was making excuses about the bucs being behind the Cowboys in titles. But hey, whatever floats your boat. My point was simple, I guess the fans of all those teams that haven't won in forever should just stop watching football, because their team let's them down every season.

The op is checked out, and then next Sunday night he will be sitting his butt right down in front of that TV eagerly awaiting Sunday night football like the rest of us. Checked out? Let me see the op not watch the game...... them ill say he's checked out.

Anyone who frequents these boards can’t really say they’re checked out. Unless they’re trolling. And I suspect there’s a few of them.

I'd think that would lead to bloating and gas.
