Honestly he was which is why he isn't on a practice squad. Leverett will be elevated to backup center.

I didn't think he was horrible at LG against Seattle. Not saying he should start, but, at least while Leverett is elevated, I could see Pete on the PS. But then, he might be better in the UFL.

The "sky is falling" reactions here are something else. Injuries happen. Look across the NFL right now. This is why the Cowboys put a second round restricted tender on TJ Bass. You need depth because at some point you're going to have to use it.

If anyone thought the Cowboys- or ANY team- were going to make it through the next 18 weeks unscathed, I have bad news for you. It was NEVER going to happen.

I think Beebe is a decent center, but not on Booker’s level. Bass may come in and be fine but he is no Tyler Smith

That combination is probably not a top 20 Oline; we’d need to work through the teams to see if it’s even top 25. Against the Giants Dline it will be really interesting to see just how far Guyton and Bass has developed.

I think the line will be bang average, around 16 with this combination. With Smith it might be around 10. I think that’s doable. If Guyton had gone down and Jones wasn’t anywhere near ready we could have a total Chaz Green type catastrophe on our hands so this seems manageable by comparison. The Giants DL is maybe more dangerous on the edge now with Lawrence gone but could still cause a lot of problems. Hopefully the team prepares adequately for them.

The trainers do not know how Smith feels. They do not know his level of pain tolerance. They do not know how the injury affects his technique. Smith probably had to alter his game so significantly to accommodate the injury he felt he could not be effective.

At this point a healthy TJ Bass is probably better than a one handed Tyler Smith. Hence this decision.

That hurts, and makes this game a lot closer contest against the Giants Sunday night . Things were going to smooth and too good for this team , this is big loss here not having Tyler Smith at left guard against this Giants front 7. Wow, why wait until a week before the first game to have thumb surgery.
