I get all the 49er games on regular TV -- Winter really did a good job replacing Fred Warner -- what he as good? No, of course not. Warner is one of the best ILBs in the league. But he did a really good job.

But with Warner and a healthy Greenlaw coming back, the kid just doesn't have much opportunity to play. Nothing wrong with him, just stuck behind two guys that few LBs would play ahead of.

Dallas effectively has 8 new starters on defense

Wow it is a little bit more clear when you say eight new starters from game one last year but even though it was eight new players it's not all eight new Dallas Cowboys they just didn't start last year in the first game but you're right only three returning starters from game one last year or starting Game 1 this year there's a big difference between the way you guys are wording this...

Eight new starters from game one last year...plus Barham, Revel, Locke, Lawrence, Miller, Bullard...

It's an entirely different defense.

Yeah that's what the Cowboys should have done it's like playing Madden Or fantasy football I mean they offered the Dolphins more than enough for him and they turned him down yet you you think we should have came to the table for more Maybe you don't understand the concept of an actual real salary cap and a real restrictive roster limit and you think we should have went after him for more dude the Cowboys offered him way beyond what was expected and they turned it down they did raiders turned down a very good price for Max Crosby And guess who overpaid oh that was the Ravens and then the Ravens said you know what we're having second thoughts we're gonna go ahead and return the product we sold because we opened it and realized it was damaged..

So you're saying the Cowboys should pay way more than the price that the players were because you think that's what's best for them i'm telling you like everyone else is telling you Dee Winters overshown Barham and this group is better than you think and hell no offering more than somebody's worth if they were gonna let go of brooks,

They should have took what the Cowboys offered because it was more than fair We're not here playing games this isn't fantasy world you're not Playing Dungeons and Dragons

This is the real world the Cowboys offer a real price a fair price they turned it down both teams were stupid and now the Cowboys need to move forward with what they have..

I don't know that I've ever seen a defense sustain as many injuries as the Niners had last season and still be good. Winters was right there in the middle of it. That's gotta count for something, right?

It is. It’s just not realistic to expect everything to go right. Nevermind we got our own guys who also need to take a step forward….

Make sure we have a good defense this year. And a good offense. And mental toughness to win in the playoffs. And a really good Super Bowl party spread.

This is the main thing about it. I see the installation of this defense going well but it will probably take going into Year 2 for it to really meld — or at least deep into the first season.

That is correct All we need to get from him is steady play Just be consistent Be where the coaches tell you to be you know we haven't had that in awhile yet guys trying to run around blocks not taking on blocks taking bad angles throwing themselves on the ground for a tackle instead of meeting the guy in the hole..

It sounds simple but we've had snake bitten with injuries and having a bunch of guys that just seem to be playing hero ball and we need a consistent linebacker and he probably is that and I know Hitchens doesn't get a lot of credit around here but Hitchens and Wilson who eventually left and both circled around the Kansas City 1 of them has a ring That's the last time I can remember a duo that actually just were normal linebackers they weren't special they weren't superstars but they did their job and it worked...

I feel the same way and even hoping this is probably optimistic. But I agree with you. That’s best case. I’d take guys simply not being lost and being the worst defense in the league as a progression.

It's hard not to want more than that though, isn't it? Just like it's hard not to think the team is definitely going to the playoffs. On the other hand, I feel the need to protect my ego and reputation among everyone here that I don't pump sunshine only to find darkness. Haha! Sorry... Got a little carried away there.

Hes about average or slightly below but for sure an upgrade over what dallas had last year.

He made alot of open field tackles and about 6.pass defend which is alot for a LB.

I'm impressed with what I saw, never really looked at highlights but I do remember him flash across the scene a few times when I did see the 9ers play
