Am I right in thinking we can’t trade either of next year’s first round picks because the Jets own whichever is the highest??

I think they can still trade it. Knowing it will be the lower pick. But what team would really do that.

Ok, this is just nuts. The dude has seriously underperformed his entire career, was the Steelers Mazi, had spinal fusion, is still working on increasing his weight, strength and conditioning and he’s “taking care of offense”

And we gave up what will likely still net out in the trade math as a third round pick, in he deepest draft in a decade or more.

I’ve been on board with the coaching changes, and was ok with getting a bunch of B+ or below players in our earlier trades and free agency. It was probably the best we could do with what we have.

But setting a 3rd round pick on fire in exchange for a guy who will not make a significant contribution this year and is a free agent in six months really bothers me.

I guess the question I'd ask is would you take another Quinnen Williams trade (a 2 this coming year and a 1 the next year and a down-roster player) over having those draft picks? Some act like doing that would be only for this year, but Quinnen is part of our plan moving forward and any top talent we traded for would be as well.

I am not expecting it to happen, but mix in a Pro Bowl-caliber vet with what we've got both young and older and the team becomes that much tougher to handle.

Unlike you, I'm not worried about him being a free agent. To me, that's kind of like fans worrying that we were renting Pickens for a year with a third-round pick last year. Once a player is here, if he performs, the Joneses are going to want to maximize the value of the picks they traded.

Unlike you, I'm not worried about him being a free agent. To me, that's kind of like fans worrying that we were renting Pickens for a year with a third-round pick last year. Once a player is here, if he performs, the Joneses are going to want to maximize the value of the picks they traded.

We’re renting Dee Winters, but that was a fifth round pick for a guy walking in the door and being a contributing starter in a position group that was a total failure in 2025.

Now we’re renting a player in a move that is, best case, a wing and a prayer hope of being a backup to Terrence Steele.

It’s bad roster building.

I’m positive I’m in the minority, but I don’t really want Crosby here, unless the cost is a straight second, and only if Gary is a total bust.

If the younger guys are showing promise, roll with it.

This team has tons of promise but many questions. Unless they all hit for the positive (very doubtful), this team will need to be completed next offseason…and you know they aren’t diving into FA for another decade, so how else do you pull that off without draft capital? You can’t.

This is why I am still not sure about the Jones trade and giving up a 3rd round pick.
Yes we got a 4th back. For what may be 15 to 20 spots lower. So I am trying to convince myself it was a good trade. But I do understand the trade as well as to why.

Winters is more typical of us. A one-year placeholder who didn't have a lot of value and may or may not work out. He falls into the same category sunk costwise as Kenneth Murray and Kairr Elam last year. Jones was more of an investment, so even if he's just a swing tackle, I will be surprised if he's not retained beyond this season.

I have less problem with the move since we are not absolutely counting on him. That has normally been the case with Dallas and when the move doesn't pay off, we don't have other options. Last year, we got Murray to be our middle linebacker despite the fact that two teams had given up on him before his first-round rookie contract was complete. This year, we got Jones to be our swing tackle and compete if he is able at right tackle, and we even did that with a bit of a fallback by signing Wanya Morris to the practice squad. That is different roster building than we've done in the past.

And we could easily pick a Taco Charlton over a TJ Watt. I'm not saying I favor having no draft picks, but having them does not guarantee success ... and has not for a long time now. I'm good with trying to win now over hoping to win in the future. It would at least represent a change from what we have been doing.

Going all in typically means the team is pretty much a lock for either a championship game and or a Superbowl appearance. The odds that the Cowboys hit on a good player in this deep draft is far higher than getting to a Superbowl. (They haven't been to a Championship game in over 30 years)

The defense was a full two year tear down and rebuild and we’re in year one

Cowboys are not contending for a Super Bowl this year and throwing more good picks after bad isn’t going to change that.

Nobody thought Seahawks were contending with until they won the SB. At the end of the day we all felt like we would be in the playoffs last year if we had a top 20 defense. It’s all I heard. Ok we’ll get into the top 20. Make the best roster you can. They have not made the best roster they can they have picks next year they can use to make that happen.

I hate that we think it really takes a process. You can contend in year 1 with the right moves. Mind you they have a top 5 offense already. You know what a real front office would do if they had a porous defense but a top 5 offense? Man…..

They might get that for Lamb but I don’t know about Pickens. I think he burned too many bridges to ever fulfill rehab his career where no one is concerned with him. Do people need to really see him on his best behavior to believe him? I just don’t know.

I won't disagree with that. I'm only saying that doing the same thing year after year after year hasn't gotten us there. I'm for doing something different.

A lot of you seem to believe that rinse and repeat is going to produce change. It's not going to cause Dallas to get any more aggressive in free agency than it has been, and building through the draft without supplementing through free agency has been proven to not work.

What is the definition of insanity wrongly attributed to Albert Einstein? Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Our roster-building strategy has remained the same since 2013.

Jerry Jones is mortgaging the team's future to win now. I'm not okay with that, even if we DO win now. I want sustained excellence, not a shot in the dark that lasts for only one season.
