"at that point"??? What point? Week 1? Week 10?
Since he only played less than 25% his grades aren't shown overall. His zone run blocking grade was 75.6 which was 13th in the league for TEs. So his best thing was 13th. Average that with his 9 catches. He also finished as the 15th highest rated TE "among partial-snap players" or in other words 15th amongst third stringers. Again, I really like the kid and am glad to have him but you aren't going to justify this contract based on anything he has done and anything other than a hope for what he might do going forward. Let's hope it comes in around $4.5M per when we see the details.

This is such a dumb, oversimplified attempt at a catchall that people keep saying. The idea of signing a guy early doesn't mean you just pay them anything to get them signed and you get to say this. At the end of the day what you pay them is what matters most. The reason people complain about waiting to sign guys is because it usually leads to an overpay on a player you knew you wanted all along and were going to pay regardless. This is an overpay without the benefits of waiting (what if a guy gets hurt, pushes cap hit further back because proration of SB starts a year later, etc). Plus he would have been a restricted free agent after the year, not an unrestricted free agent.

I'm very happy to have Spann-Ford on the team for an additional 3 years so I'm not bent out of shape over this at all. But that doesn't take away from the fact that we overpaid

BSF is paid like a backup so, which he is, not sure where the over pay is coming from.

Waiting to extend him might have been better but don’t discount the fact that it may be prudent. What if Ferg goes down for the year in game one? And then BSF goes off and becomes the next Travis Kelce. No one knew Kelce would be Kelce until he was. You have no idea what his ceiling is and the cowboys must think it is plenty high. You make your opinions seem like they’re facts but they are not.

Nothing against you here, i just dont get the whole if its x amount ill be happy as a fan.

Salary cap goes up every year and is expected to go up 22 million or more next year. Which would put him at less than 2% of projected cap.

The cowboys have BSF a nearly fully guaranteed contract? Guys like BSF don’t usually get 2/3 of there contract guaranteed. Are you sure?

he is no longer going to be paid "like a backup" with this new deal. Please point out how many of the 32 teams have two TEs making $6M per year. I'll go out on a limb and say it isn't half the league

Everyone is welcome to their opinion on what he might be. I've never addressed a prediction or ceiling for him in this thread. What you can't dispute is what he has been so far which is indeed a fact and what I have referenced. So weird comment...

Plus he has receiving potential and in camp he was much more involved as a pass-catcher, especially in the redzone. He’s also much more athletic in the open field than people realize.

An elite blocker, a redzone threat, and a guy who can get up the field at his size is a great asset to have. Love this deal.

so here is where you point out where I'm wrong instead of making the most moronic generic attempt at a catchall comment in sports. So was the Murray trade good? Did they know what they were doing there? Was drafting Mazi good? The Sanborn signing? Should I go on? Giving huge extensions to Jaylen Smith and Steele? That's just a dumb angle as if it's the right thing to do because they are the team. We can't second guess moves or play calls or anything right? Because they are the coaches and GMs. Do better

So what was inaccurate that I said? Remember that I said nothing about his potential future abilities jsut that he had yet to earn that deal?

I never said you were wrong. Only that...maybe...the Cowboys have a better perspective and assessment of his value than us.

For some people (not necessarily you)...just can't win. If the sign someone early, it's stupid. If they sign someone AFTER they do well and expense increases...that's stupid too.

Of course they know more than us. I'd never dispute that. And again, as I have said, I am a big fan of Spann-Ford. He is part of my "out there predictions" for this weekend. A TD for Spann-Ford and a sack for Overton. Out there because when we look back on the season I don't except more than 3ish of each for either of them but I just have a feeling about this weekend the way everything lines up. The Giants are going to be all over Pickens and CeeDee in the red zone and I think BSP can sneak out on a PAP or after chipping the DE/OLB (because I think he will need to help on the EDGEs this weekend) and be wide open.

It's clear both Spann-Ford and Flournoy are a part of this team's future plans. And to secure them both before the price goes up is the Cowboys displaying rare foresight.

Some people just have to be the dissenting voice.

Sorry...it APPEARED you are against the decision to give him the new contarct was not worthy. That would be 'disputing" to me.

I am absolutely of the opinion that they overpaid. That doesn't mean I dispute that the coaches know more than me :huh:
It also doesn't mean that they are correct in this case nor does it mean I'm bent out of shape over it. It's a discussion

Sorry, not trying to offend you. However, if BSF has only played 25% of the time, what would his numbers look like across the whole season? He would have starting TE stats and we already know he’s a great blocker.
