“I'm chalking up the fact that it was our first game. We were making calls, we just weren't making them all the time and then receiving them all the time.
So, that's why you saw some of the things where it looked like you know they got us on three different plays — those were actually three different calls, three different defensive calls, and so you know that's us not being on the same page.”

Brian Schottenheimer on the Week 1 loss to the Giants and the defensive issues.

“You address it first and foremost, it was surprising we didn’t communicate well. First part is being decisive and loud.

Second part, that's the the person that's giving it, and then the receiving is where we're off. You know, on a few things, calls are being made. They have to be louder. They have to be more decisive, but they have to be received. And to co-sign that, you see us. We signal all the time based on you know different things, so you can't hear what they're saying on the film. So there should be hand signals that show information being received, and you know we need to do better. And it wasn't good enough, but we emphasize that we talked about it, and they understand.

I think sometimes guys try to do a little bit too much in those situations, especially if they don't hear what they're.

The way the National Football League is right now is, you know, we're this way on offense. You know, you're trying to change the picture. You're trying to make things look different. You're trying to make people have to adjust on the run. Motion shifts, movements are at all-time high in this level. So, if you don't communicate when the numbers change and the picture changes, then you're going to put yourself at a disadvantage.”

I’m neutral on Schotty but I respect the hell out of anyone that is willing to admit they made a mistake. There are certain egos (coaches and owners, especially one on this site) that will always refuse to admit they were wrong. People like that are idiots because instead of learning and acknowledging their mistakes they just keep doing it over and over over again.

I wish someone would counsel Schottenheimer about interacting with the media. Maybe Bill Belichick could give him some pointers?

There is little reason to keep explaining all your coaching decisions to the media. No points will be awarded that will boost your job security. Just nudge the conversation on to Washington and be done with it.

“Do you want me to say it again? I’m disappointed. Did I expect it? No.
Am I sitting here saying we're going to communicate poorly this week? No, we're going to communicate better this week.
Did I sleep loose last night because I'm worried about communication? No, I will be very surprised if we don't communicate at a much higher level in this game.”

I’m not fully against Shoddy, but this is why he is the perfect Jerry hire.

This is Jerry’s last shot, and he is staking it on this guy. That makes him a “great owner,” as some of you say?

The only success or promise came when he had HOF head coaches who had a huge hand in personnel. Still, we roll with Shoddy.

Hey….anyone ever think that maybe no highly regarded coaching candidate wants to work for Jerry? Meanwhile Jerry considers it a privilege to have the position and collect even a single cent.

I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they met with MM figuring to bring him back and he basically told them he’d rather not work.

Usually head coaches don’t get a third shot, but the league probably gave him a pass on the Dallas gig considering they didn’t sign a single free agent of consequence during his five years here. Jones football. Careful with the cash…fill holes on the field second.

I think his job security is fine. We were wanting to sign Mike McCarthy to a four-year contract after the results over the last 5 years.

Both Stephen and Jerry have no idea what they're doing and I'm tired of wasting my time watching this **** show year after year after year because it's pointless. I've wasted 31 years so far.

I agree Schottenheimer has very little to worry about job wise. It does not seem like he is as certain though.

There should be a breakeven point of explaining what went right or wrong from the previous game and then moving on. Instead, he is still selling humble pie for the media to eat up. Washington. FOX. America's Game of the Week. Sunday. That is what any head coach should only be talking about on the hump day before the game.

Bingo. I don’t discredit what Schotty is saying, but ultimately he’s admitting that we are working on training camp items during the regular season….whats worse is its similar issues to the 2025 defense.

you would think they would work on them throughout TC but in the couple weeks after camp breaks til the season begins while installing things with your starters you would think they would be pounding all the "fundamentals". ie, we may get beaten but we aren't going to beat ourselves.
