I’m not fully against Shoddy, but this is why he is the perfect Jerry hire.

This is Jerry’s last shot, and he is staking it on this guy. That makes him a “great owner,” as some of you say?

The only success or promise came when he had HOF head coaches who had a huge hand in personnel. Still, we roll with Shoddy.

Hey….anyone ever think that maybe no highly regarded coaching candidate wants to work for Jerry? Meanwhile Jerry considers it a privilege to have the position and collect even a single cent.

I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they met with MM figuring to bring him back and he basically told them he’d rather not work.

Usually head coaches don’t get a third shot, but the league probably gave him a pass on the Dallas gig considering they didn’t sign a single free agent of consequence during his five years here. Jones football. Careful with the cash…fill holes on the field second.

What is still funny but not humorous is the fact Jerry Jones interviewed his perfect hire twice before making his decision... after having Brian Schottenheimer working in-house for a couple of years. It's like, I mean, was he paying his employee without assessing his future coaching potential?

I like what I'm hearing, but I'd LOVE IT if he followed it up with "or changes will be made". We went through this lip service all last year. Drop the hammer or it's just hollow words

I watched a guy break down a bunch of plays, including the very first offensive play of the season. They had Ferguson and Fluonoy trying to block and of course it went for huge gain: 1 yard. THAT is what you call?

On the defensive side, some of this sounds like green dot issues.

I was never sold on Overshown having the dot but there was no one else. When he went out and Barham was left in charge on the field I knew it was going to be rough.

It needs to be a player with the mentality of Downs but it’s really hard to do that and still allow him to do his full hybrid role simply due to the logistics of being too far away from the line of scrimmage to make the line calls,

Caleb’s role is to take the hand signals form the LB and then direct the DBs.

Only three nfl safeties currently have the green dot and only one of those isn't a thumper “box safety” and all of them have at least seven years in the league.

I’m sure Downs is capable of it but its not a realistic solution for a rookie whose main job is to anchor and direct m the secondary.

Bingo. I don’t discredit what Schotty is saying, but ultimately he’s admitting that we are working on training camp items during the regular season….whats worse is its similar issues to the 2025 defense.

It’s week one so I’m willing to be a little patient. Both the Rams and Chargers looked really unprepared and both have head coaches who are widely respected.

Unfortunately Schotty is the opposite of his father. Marty was not good with brown nosing but was a tough no nonsense coach. I remember he coached Washington for that one season and made them a tough team. He didn’t play the games with Snyder and he got fired. Marty’s KC and Cleveland teams were always tough minded football teams that kept running in Elway unfortunately.

I get what you’re saying, but the interview serves a real purpose. I’m pretty sure that while Schottenheimer was on previous staffs, he wasn’t asked or allowed to give a full day presentation during the regular season. Sometimes these go on for multiple days.

Unlike 1989, when Jerry hired Jimmy based on little more than their relationship, long alcohol fueled “what if sessions” and a vibe, every interview this time was almost certainly a top to bottom breakdown of personnel, scheme specifics, practice and camp schedules, success timelines and staff discussions. Every candidate surely had an entire binder and decks prepared.

Like many here, I’ve been promoted many times and the bigger the role, the more challenging the interview and the more preparation was required. It went from “best person currently doing the job and we need a supervisor, you’ll start tomorrow, heres the keys” to half day presentations to the c-level with another half day of case study defense and detailed project plans with SMEs from multiple departments.

I've been saying for year the best way to attack the Giants is to throw on first down. I don't think Harbaugh changes that much. Schotty called some kind of little pitch to Javonte Williams with the Giants DE coming in clean and running into Flournoy who was crossing behind the line. Not sure if Flournoy was supposed to block the DE or what but the play was stuffed in the middle anyway.

I think running teh first play of teh game is an obvious call. I like to see the first play be a chunk play in the air if possible.

Yes but the cowboys don’t have well decorated coaches you give benefit of the doubt to. As much as I like Schottenheimer I truly worry about his ability to support the defensive side of things after last year and now the same issues popping up.

And I’m just not sure there is a ton of time for patience this season. This team is coming off back to back losing years. Dropping to not just 0-2 but 0-2 within the division before a really rough 5 game stretch means it’s nearly over as crazy as that sounds. 0-2 teams just don’t make the playoffs often, typically around just 10% of the time. We need some urgency.
