Twitter: Pickens was wide open

Baby Brian's exact words:
“We called a quick out. I probably over-coached Dak on that one. Because we had the points. I probably over-coached him on that. Because with the time, no timeouts, it had to go to GP or throw it away.”
Let me translate...So the instruction was essentially:
“If Pickens is open, throw it to him. If he isn't, throw it away.”
Certainly Dak understands the "anticipation" part of it?

Then why even run a play? Just kick the FG then. Running a play brought potentially bad things into play. Mis-handled snap and fumble and the game is over with no timeouts.
At least run some seconds off with a run play?

100% has to make that throw for an easy TD however OPI could have arguably been called. One angle I watched shows like he extends his arms fully while another looks like he doesn't.

Why is Schotty saying he told Dak to just throw it away...........We need an investigation, as that was a quick decision to sail it out the endzone......no chance. We need the truth!!!!

Pickens doesn't have to be open while the ball is in Daks hands. The throw is often made based on where the receiver will be when the ball arrives.
With a receiver like Pickens, that's particularly relevant because you can throw it high/outside toward the pylon and let him make a play. The QB's job is often to anticipate the receiver becoming open. Pickens got separation near the front pylon. That's important. Dak didn't need Pickens to be standing completely uncovered before releasing the ball. He needed to recognize that Pickens was going to have a chance and put the ball where only Pickens could make the play. Therein lies the problem.

Only intelligent people like yourself understands this. Either way, it was just a bad play to throw away.

Its entertaining watching the dumb people blaming the whole game on him despite dropping dimes to even have us in position to win the game .

This loss was on offense and defense. The low IQ cowards are going to blame one person for what happens on both sides of the ball though. Ima sit back and continue to watch the stupid people comments keep flowing though.
Everything that happened up to that last play was in the rear. All he had to do was throw it to a wide open WR and the game is over and Dak gets his first victory against a real team. But player 4 showed up again and lost it.

Dak threw to Pickens in double coverage several times throughout the game, trusting Pickens to get to the ball. That throw to the pylon is a timing route and you trust your receiver to get to the ball. No, Pickens was not open when Dak threw it, but it would have been there if he put the ball on the pylon, after Pickens pushed off to get open (not mad at him for it). I don't know what route was actually called. And it sounds like Shotty told Dak to throw it away. The bottom line is it was a mismanagement of epic proportions when they got down there in terms of clock management, playcalling and a killer penalty. You have to go for the win in this situation, I think we all know that. I am not absolving Dak of anything btw. I just don't know what happened on that throw.

Why is there a play designed to be a throw away?
Wasn't the ball in Giants game before half also a "throw away"?....ended in a pik, and essentially 14 points

Probably worked for hours on a "throw away" play.....
Pre snap dak went from " here we go" to some other key word.....must be the throw away play...

He clearly had time to let that play develop a little more.
This is the only reasonable thought because when he actually threw it Pickens had no separation. Of course if he does he lets the play develop and he gets sacked from the blindside then it's 'you can't take a sack there -- if your guy isn't wide open then you throw it away', which is what he did. We tie the game with 7 seconds left -- not 40 seconds -- 7 seconds and that should be good enough to get you to OT.
