This is an organization problem. Is Tyler Smith better than TJ Bass? Yes. Is the drop off massive? No. At least not enough to continually draft these first round lineman year after year. Were the only team that does it, has it paid off? No.

Tyler Smith is a fine player but so is TJ Bass. And neither of them make a bigger impact than what Jalen Pitre, George Karlaftis, Devin Lloyd would have on our defense.(whom we passed on)

We should have learned. We had Zack Martin the best guard in football for over a decade and it did absolutely nothing for the overall team success. Sometimes I think that they’re afraid of drafting so they take the safest pick possible and OG. It’s probably the easiest position to find…good organization take impact players in the first round not a pro bowl guard. A pro bowl guard will not sack the QB, intercept a pass, or make a game changing tackle. These are all things the cowboys are and have been desperate for. Not another pro bowl guard.

I disagree. Booker will be a 10 year plug and play starter that will go to multiple pro-bowls. Never wrong to invest in the OL.

Bass is NOT a fine player; he is a decent starter
right there you blew any cred
if you can get a player that will be pro bowl or all pro AT ANY POSITION YOU TAKE HIM
I bet you probably would have screamed that drafting LA was wrong

I agree on OG's. We should never draft an guard in the first. Now tackles that's a horse of a different color. I'd love for us to take OT Carter Smith f/ Indiana in the first. That would allow us to replace Steele with Broderick Jones and bench Guyton.

Ginormous mistake. He is playing at a high level this year and is the long term answer at LOT.
One good year equals long term answer? That's the train of thought that leaves us with middling players on big time contracts. "Cowboy players get paid then disappear," is what we are trying to stay away from. Besides good offensive lineman don't struggle for years then just straighten up. Did Tyron Smith struggle for years? Zack Martin? Eric Williams? Larry Allen?

Guyton falls in the Doug Free slash Terrence Steele bucket. So no, I don't think he needs to be extended. Carter Smith will be better than him from day one.

If you dont think the drop off between Bass and Smith is massive, then I cant help you

when Tyron smith is on his game, he is All Pro
the best that Bass can do is be solid
when your pick comes, you look for the best player in that group
NOT the best athlete or the flashy star but the BEST PLAYER

Who should we have drafted that would have us at 2-1 or 3-0 right now instead of Booker?

Why would they draft a guard when they need a tackle?
because if you would bother to look at when we picked, there was no tackle prospect close to that value around. They stayed loyal to their draft board which is the smart thing to do.

Uh, no.

Karlaftis is a rotational edge and Lloyed literally was a UFA this year.
Karlaftis is more than just a rotational edge for KC. He's a starter who's well rounded against both the pass and run. He also has a non-stop motor.
He's not flashy by any means, but he's a rough-tough player that gets the job done.
I wish the Cowboys had him.

You don't draft "rough-tough" players in the first round, whatever that is supposed to mean.

He plays a billion snaps and doesn't make any plays.

I thought this was for the next draft. My bad

I think you need to do more research on the player. If he's a rotational player, as you say, why does he get a billion snaps?

I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one, unless you become disagreeable.

Carry On.
