The O-line held up against a very good Texans D-line

I was impressed by the Texans' D-line. They mixed things up to get pressure and sometimes they stuffed the run. Our O-line held their own against them. This Texans team maybe be the best 0 and 4 team I've seen. I hear all their losses have been close. Where they shot themselves in the foot were penalties.

The thing is, the Cowboys can't count on every team goofing up with penalties so bad. If I were a Houston fan, I would be upset with them over that. If the Texans had had their penalty problem under control, I suspect they would have won this game. I'm happy we won. I liked what I saw from our O-line, Dak, and our receivers especially. I think one thing I heard a coach say decades ago applies: "Enjoy the win. You earned it. Just understand we have to get a lot better to achieve our goals."

Tale of 2 halves. Dominated/manhandled in first half pass protection.

Total night and day difference in the second half.
THIS was the key to victory.
If Houston's front had continued its first half pass rush dominance in the 2nd half then Dallas would have lost.

Whatever Riley and Adams did at the half with the oline, kudos to them.

We started getting rid of the ball quicker. Huge factor.

They shortened the passing game.
The average length pass distance before the rac to Lamb was 6.8 yards.
His average distance in the first 3 games before yac was 10.9!

Steele is losing it as regards run blocking and stinks as a pass blocker
Bass is a good backup but not starter quality for a good O line
Cooper is still learning on the job as is Booker
Guyton has really improved
When Tyler Smith comes back, then the boys can concentrate on dealing with Steele's bad play. I hope Jones can do something

At this point, I want BSF instead of Ferguson…..BSF can block, Steele needs the help or we need to thinking about sitting Steele, giving Jones the job. If we got average play, with Tyler Smith coming back…big confidence with the O…..D just MUST continue to improve.

Dallas has a couple of long drives in the 2nd half wearing down that defense too

That downfield passing attack thingie that's taking over the NFL has sooooo many drawbacks. It keeps getting Burrows and Purdy injured.

SF, BTW, is suddenly 4-0 and looking like a contender. Why? They changed the O to more short passes.

No matter how you slice it, long passes are low percentage plays.

Yes, why did we finally go to that? What took so long?

CD is a great slant/cross runner. Dak throws it well. Why in hades have we not been using that? Is this another case of round hole/square peg crapp? Ugghghghghg

We constantly get in our own way, it’s frustrating **.

I saw their game against the Broncos, and they're looking really good, though their defense is pretty banged up. This is the first time I've seen Brock Purdy play in about 3 years. I think he's looking even better than he did back then. He's cool as a cucumber under pressure, and he can fit the ball into tight spaces. I wouldn't call him as elite as Patrick Mahommes, but the guy is really good. That system of a lot of short passes fit's Purdy's skillset really well.

Purdy shows how flawed the NFL Draft process was as regards QB evaluation

What I found to be interesting is they were able to transition to a shorter passing game successfully. If you remember correctly they weren't able to do so vs San Francisco 4 man rush, 7 in zone in the playoffs in consecutive seasons.
It probably helps having Pickens opposite of Lamb and Kenneth Murray in the underneath zone instead of Warner but the growth was there!
