Not the year to tank

Typically, when you realize it’s a lost season, you hope for the worst so that you can rebuild. One bad season can change your franchise for the better.

But this is not that season. We’ve traded all our picks in 2027. The only original pick we have left is our 2nd rounder. So tanking really only gives us a pick in the mid-to-late 30s.

Here’s a recap of what happened to all our 2027 picks:

2nd Round	Dallas Cowboys	Retained. This is the only original pick Dallas kept.
3rd Round	Pittsburgh Steelers	Traded to Pittsburgh in August 2026 to acquire offensive tackle Broderick Jones.
4th Round	Green Bay Packers	Traded to the Packers in March 2026 to acquire edge rusher Rashan Gary. (Dallas replaced this by acquiring Pittsburgh's 2027 4th-rounder in the Broderick Jones deal).
5th Round	Pittsburgh Steelers	Sent to Pittsburgh back in May 2025 as part of the trade package to land wide receiver George Pickens.
6th Round	Pittsburgh Steelers	Traded to Pittsburgh in October 2026 to acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr..
7th Round	Philadelphia Eagles	Traded to division-rival Philly during the 2026 draft to move down in the first round. (Dallas later added a different 2027 7th-rounder from Houston in exchange for Nathan Thomas).

Yeah but u cant be a buyer last week and a seller now. You just traded for porter and have to give him a new contract now.

Jerry will away the 2nd rounder for something out of desperation. Same thing he did a couple years ago for Mingo. Anything to keep the cowboys in the news cycle.

I am as cynical as anyone in Cowboys fandom, but I think it is obvious this team has more talent than is showing on the field. Coaching is the anchor holding this team back. I would rather hand Mike McCarthy back.
