I don't like Dak but Schotty is the real problem here

Dak is a veteran and didn’t play well yesterday, period. I don’t like him as my QB but I’m not here to talk about that today beyond that. My problem with this unit in 2026 is the coach. They’re softer now than ever! They don’t look like a team that cares enough to fight for their head coach and THAT IS damning. It worries me that Dak thinks that this game against the Buccaneers was a game they should have won. What is the coach telling them in that locker room? That they’re the Cowboys and showing up is enough for them to win? We also played like **** against the 0-3 Texans in the first half too. We can’t keep coming out slow and unprepared against at the times winless teams or any team for that matter. It’s on the coaching. This is my least favorite era of the Dak era and I don’t think that’s hyperbole or recency bias. FIRE Schotty!
the cowboys culture as set by the owner/gm is the problem.

jerry hired Schotty. because he can't deal with strong coaches like ben johnson.
Schotty has been very very bad the past three weeks. his decision makings suck. like last night. why go for two? stupid. what message were you trying to send to whom?

he sucks. parker sucks.

and it was obvious that this team drank their own koolaid and weren't prepared. that's on the coach. Dak said, this is a game they thought they would win. that's the problem.
you go into the week, with that mind set, you are not focused. and you end up getting spanked.

Another thing about Schotty. The bucs confused our online all game. It didn't seem like we adjusted or had any answers.

The problem is the owner who keeps hiring experimental prospects as coaches. A team that was bottom last as their defensive unit should never hire an experimental coach as their defensive coordinator. At this point most of the coaches of this team are learning on the job. These were coaches hired by an owner whose franchise has not made it to the NFC championship game in over 3 decades. Nothing changes for this team with the Jones running the show. 10 years with Garret told me everything I needed to know about where this once a great franchise stands.
I disagree. I actually like the process in which Parker was hired. The HC picked the guy he thought was best fit rather than staying within his or Jerry’s circle of buddies.

It just hasn’t worked out.

Dak was awful for 3 quarters last night, but Ferguson's dropped potentially robbed the Cowboys of a comeback win. Again, losers drop those passes. Winners make those catches. The same with Bland. Winners catch those INTs and run them back for 6 points. Losers do what Bland did and drop the ball right in their hands.

The Cowboys have a losing mentality. That's all there is to it. How do you break that? I think it starts with the coaching staff, maybe even the owner.

I think we learned last night that Christian Parker is not ready for a DC job. The defense should be better than what it was last year, although I never thought the secondary was very good to begin with. But that 3rd and 21 Tampa converted easily was the end for me. No pressure. 8 guys drop and that receiver was wide open?

All night Tampa gave Dak fits with constant blitzes and 5 and 6 man rushes. What a concept. But Parker refuses to dial up pressure in key situations.

All the optimism I had after acquiring Porter is gone. If Parker had 11 pro-bowlers on defense his defense would still be bad. Of that I am convinced.

Jerry is the real problem. He's the one that hired Schotty. If he got fired today, there would only be another puppet coach. We are doomed. This has been going on for 31 years now...long before Dak and long before Schotty.

What sealed it for me was Dak saying this was a game that they should have won. This culture isn’t working and while it’s only five games in this season, the wheels have already come off. If we win 9 games it will be in despite of the coach
Thats my problem. I dont believe our record is reflective of the talent. I know we have obvious deficiencies, but so does every team in the salary cap era.

Its up to the coaches to scheme around them and overcome.

In five weeks I've seen Schottenheimer make a few ridiculously stupid decisions. The field goal vs Houston and going for two were really difficult to digest.

Then there's the defense which is NOT showing incremental improvement. Theres no reason to believe we are on a path towards progress after we got gashed and beaten by an undrafted fa rookie qb.

We are being out coached most of these games, which makes it difficult to believe the team somehow gets it turned around in any meaningful way.

Ill say this

Yes Brian Schottenheimer is a terrible coach and didnt deserve this job

But

I would rather go forward with him and a new QB than vice versa
Schottenheimer is not an NFL caliber HC. Dak has proven he can be a top 5 QB in the league at times. Respectfully disagree.

In otherwords, about 25 teams would race to make Dak their starting QB if he were released today. 31 other teams would not even consider interviewing Schotty as HC. In fact, many teams might not even consider him for the OC job.

He's a terrible HC

He's the #1 problem. But he is GM and it's not changing. We know when it could possibly change...but I don't want to say it out loud.

So I look at #2 problem. Jerry or not, this HC is a disaster and worse than Garrett ever was.

Schotty is a problem...probably the worst coach in the league. Dak is a problem. He's a streaky qb who looks elite one minute and plays like trash the next. The defense is awful. Never going to win anything with a defense that bad. Jerry is responsible for it all. I know it's all we can hope for because Jerry's not going anywhere but it's like changing the seating arrangement on the Titanic.

We shouldn’t be outcoached against somebody like Bowles who has led his team to a 0-4 record. At this point despite his deficiencies, Bowles proved he’s the better coach

You really think the HC had anything to do with the Parker hire? :muttley:

Ive seen Dak for almost 11 years to know that he cant get the job done. It doesnt matter the coach, personnel, or scheme. You can get McVay, Shanahan, Reid in here. He wont get it done.

What I also know is there are certain QBs that can make the throws that Dak was missing all game last night. Thats not on the coach.

Actually yeah. Parker just doesn't fit the Jerry pattern at all. Granted, Jerry/Stephen had ultimate say-so, but Parker's definitely not their pick.

Oh but the “ analytics “ said it was the right move. You didn’t know this?!

I think he would with one of those guys. But in the end it doesn't matter because Jerry needs a puppet HC.

I actually think Parker is right along who Jerry would pick. Unproven who would not take away the glory from Jerry. Schotty is here based on the same reasoning. When the pattern presents itself for over three decades, it is easy to recognize.

Don't worry. He is about to start sitting in on defensive meetings again like last year and the defense still won't get better just like last year.
