Parker appears to be a recipient of the Eagles talent laden D from 2024. Anyone could've coached that D.

Yeah, I'm here to converse and pal around w/ fellow Cowboys fans. I'm 61, so my ego is long shot. I'm more interested in assessment and evaluation. In this case, my assessment of this D was wrong. However, Parker does appear to suck, so I'd be really interested to see what a more competent DC could do w/ this D.

I wasn't aware of 4 in 4. That's horrible to an organization and it's players. If we go 5 in 4 years then what? We're stuck. Hate to say it, but we might be writing the season off again. 30 years.

Downs looks too small. He whiffed on tackles. I see why he lasted on the draft board

They definitely CANT DRAFT DEFENSE. Good call.


But in Downs' defense he sometimes appears as a standout stand alone talent while other times resembles a more complimentary piece.
I'm gonna chalk it up to inexperience just now because he has had some impressive flashes. The consistency is what's missing and hopefully will come.

Same age. So I can relate.
I don't know man, I keep getting that Jimmy Johnson video stuck in my head of him on how he felt about dumb players.

The fact of how bad this defense has looked under 2 different guys for 2 years now has made me add Football IQ to the top of my traits list for prospective draftees.

While I don't think the existing players would be much better in a different scheme...
I also think you were right that Parker benefitted from that previously talent laden Eagle defense he helped with.

It's just that all the positional comparisons of the Eagles players to Cowboy ones favor the Eagles as far superior in talent across the board.
I think he "might" be able to coach.
MIGHT.
BUT...I think he does not know how to evaluate defensive talent.

In other words he may knows what he wants but can not determine which are the right players to fill all his scheme positional roles.

Scheme is weak.

Players are weak, especially the dline with the pass rush.

Yeah, it definitely is not an ALL on the coach thing.
The current roster is extremely lacking in talent at the edge, linebacker and corner positions.

The absolute funniest thing out of everything is that defensive coordinator number 5, whomever that may be, is gonna have the exact same problems as all the others.

With NO edges, heck, only one d linemen at the first level. (QW)
One linebacker at the 2nd level.(Barham)
One secondary guy(Downs) at the 3rd level although he didn't have his best game.

The cupboard is practically bare.
They suck at zone or press man or any other scheme called.
Because they suck.
So bring on the next attempt at a defensive coordinator and IF those personnel deficiencies aren't addressed, it will be the exact same outcome.

But let's continue on for the rest of this season and onward telling ourselves once again how we like our guys and once again get the exact same results.

Somebody who knows how to draft/acquire quality defensive players is an extreme need in the war room.

Great post. We just don't draft defense very well. We DEFINITELY don't draft DAWGS. Outside of Barham, who they stumbled onto, they never draft hard nosed dawgs. No matter what else you value, you have to have tough, physical players on defense. Then they double down with a cerebral coordinator who seems to look for finesse types

Yeah, the post about failed 2nd round picks from a couple weeks ago was covering like 20, 25 or 30 years worth of 2nd round draft busts.

The scouts, McClay, the coaches, Jerry and anybody else involved in Jerry's Cowboy think tank of acquiring players have all failed miserably in evaluating defensive players.

There's no denying it.
So it doesn't matter what coach or scheme these failures are led by.
That chosen DC ain't gonna be able to make chicken salad outta chicken ****.

Nothing about him says leader or commands respect. He is one of the worst hires I've ever seen in my life and Shoddy is right there with him. Has anyone actually paid attention to his dominant facial expression? It reminds me of Ed bassmaster's character "always teste." Just an idiot.

The defense couldn’t get much worse so yeah, may as well get a new DC.

He really is. The way he was able to coordinate a worse defense than last season is as innovative as It gets.
