How to move forward at qb?

Moving Dak wont happen, the cap hit. We owe more money next two years and then Dak will take Jerruh and the boy wonder to the shed again and probably keep his highest paid player status.

If the team somehow moves on and takes a salary caps hit, this current organization has shown zero ability to develops QBs. We got very lucky with Romo and Dak, doubt we pull an UDFA or later round pick and hit gold a third time.
Yeah, we got very lucky, who could we have found to win nothing with.

How to move forward at qb?

Based on the current general manager's decades-old philosophy concerning the position?

Answer: Brain transplant

There are pros and cons just like anything else associated with change. Pro: a unique opportunity for injecting a fresh, innovative, knowledgeable mindset that will plan for the eventual change at quarterback. Con: the fatality rate is 100%, so the patient will not volunteer for the procedure.

The problem is the Cowboys haven't even thought about a Dak succession plan. Jerry wasn't prepared to replace Aikman and the team suffered for years. And they really lucked into Romo and lucked into Dak after that.

This team has not drafted a QB to be "the guy" since I guess Quincy Carter in the 2nd round in 2001. I don't know if I have faith in them to get it right.

Dak is a coach killer. Owners dream they can get more out of him but this is it. Game-manager Dak and high-octane Dak are both chokers in the end.
Agreed. Too soon? It’s been 11 years. The guy isn’t going to magically get better at 34. He already had slow feet, they will continue to get slower as we all do with age. His arm was never amazing (not saying it was bad) it will also go down. He’s never had an ounce of competition. If you look at his scouting report out of college, he still has all the same deficiencies. The difference between him and other QB’s is other teams were smart enough to move on. Dak has been given 11 years. The second contract was insane to give. Another pretty much proves it’s not about winning to Jerry, it’s just butts in the seats and money. I believe money can be saved cutting him this offseason. This team is going nowhere. Put more money into the defense, draft a QB and use a journeyman while the drafted good QB learns. What is there to lose at this point. Hes not on a dang rookie contract it’s year 11. It’s time.

McVeigh would have moved on...did so with Goff.

Reid would have moved on...did so with Alex Smith.

The Eagles? How much you wanna bet they are moving on? What kind of team do you need to support someone like Hurts with subpar passing skills?

Well similarly, over the 11 year experiment, there's been no team we can assemble that Dak can win with. He's a bonafide, certified choker. "GOTI"...?!? Seriously?!?

This team should have been blown up right after the playoff beatdown by the Packers.

Dak should have been the first to go.

Dak's cap numbers are just going to make it imposable to field a competitive team.

Jerry has really destroyed this team on any chances of competing for the foreseeable future.

The only way for this franchise to move forward is to move backwards, and fall of a cliff. Knowing us though, we'd probably fall right into the hands of some coyote or alien

Let him play out his contract then walk. Draft a high round qb at first opportunity. There arent many options that dont include extending him which would be a momumental error (again).

The GOTI thing is a dang joke. Talking about good you are always works out. Yes, there are so many examples of a team going you know what this guy isn’t terrible, but he’s not it. Jerry and Stephen can’t admit when they are wrong. So you know what let’s double down and make our guy the highest paid ever. Let’s pay his receivers more than 95% of the league to help our amazing QB out. Let’s spend countless premium picks on the OL. Then when our defense sucks (even when he’s sucking) we can blame it on the coordinator and keep on going the same direction. Lol

Nothing wrong with Dak. Plus, he definitely is a top 5 QB right now. His stats prove it.

Dak is:

• #1 leading in passing yards (1,381) after 5 games.
• Tied #2 in passing TDs (9).
• Tied 3rd least in INTs (3; both interceptions against the Buccaneers were Ferguson's fault as both passes went right through both hands, only to be tipped and intercepted).
• #4 best QBR (79.2).
You're not addressing what OP said. It's not a bash Dak thread, the fact is Dak will be 34 at the beginning of next season, father time gets to all players. Why not start thinking of the future now? Jerry isn't building a great team around Dak anytime soon.

Too soon to think about replacing Prescott.

My observation….he could use one less top notch WR but needs a stud TE to count on. Linus blanket.

I really think would better serve him. But….none of it matters if no one can play defense. It’s cool that they took the preseason off so no one gets hurt. Went well.

Either way, this is five games of this, and it’s next to not believable until you realize that it’s a Jerry controlled situation and that’ll never work….but he “bought himself” the right to be able to do this year after year and fail. I have NO idea how people haven’t turned on him severely.
Huh?

I believe money can be saved cutting him this year. Regardless it’s time for competition. He’s had 11 years of people telling him he’s the greatest while he overall has played like top 15. Make the guy compete or release him

Agreed. Then they wait until the first game of the 2024 season to give him a contract which is still the most per season, to watch him have a terrible season. They should have gone all in on finding a replacement and building the team. Instead it was all in extending him

This isn’t an anti Dak post. I think every qb has games like last night. The difference is their defense and coaching isn’t atrocious and maybe it can help them still win.

I think Dak is a top 10 qb but like any other guy outside the top 5….one who needs help around him to win.

Reality is though. He’ll be 34 next year. With one year remaining on his deal. The window to win with him is closing… and closing fast.

In a deep qb draft….Shouldn’t we start to prepare for life after Dak? Consider drafting a guy and letting him sit for a year?
Get lucky and draft one or get lucky like Tampa and find a Daniel's just like we found Romo once.

This defensen s so far from being any good that it will take another three years because we have no draft picks, no cap room.

I just can't believe how bad this defense is. Giving up the 3rd and 21 to a rookie UDFA QB was the nail in the coffin for me and my opinion of this defense

I just hope he doesn’t get extended again. There is no logical reason to re-sign him at 35. Dallas needs to start his exit strategy now but that is asking a lot from the bozos.

If Dak really wants a ring, try somewhere else with a competent team, it isn’t happening here.

I dont believe Dak is our biggest problem by any means and many will say that it may take us years to find someone even as good as him. That misses the point though, Dak has had a career and achieved nothing of note, also there is no sign of the Cowboys being close in the next few years anyway so who cares our qb is? May as well be a cheap option for a while.
