For me Schotty is the wrong hire because of one simple rule in my opinion. A coach can not be shooting basketballs-getting close with every family member your players have, And treat your players as friends. Jimmy didn't treat most of his players like that. Landry didn't. Parcels didn't. Garrett and Schotty were and are known for this. Most great coaches aren't friendly with their players. Pro or college.

You can't be friends with your players. The players need to have some fear of their coach. You get too close to players and their families when it comes time to cut the fat you might get compromised by the familiarity. Guys aren't playing good or helping the team under Jimmy were let go with NO ceremony. Schotty need to quit with the buddy-buddy. We love everybody crap! Be a coach- not a priest or family counselor. You want to be like Schotty in this aspect you're probably in the wrong business.

What we need is a coach that demands great play. Demand player results! Demand accountability. I haven't seen none of this on this team, Thus IMHO??? Schotty NEEDS to go. He brings nothing to the table at all. This was the worse defeat I've ever witnessed in the history of watching this team. Players can't tackle. Don't want to tackle. Making business decisions. Getting their bag then disappearing. I want this clown out of here ASAP!

Tampa held the ball on offense for 40 minutes!! 40 damn minutes!!! Yet some are blaming Dak. The Dallas offense had 20 minutes. Brady-Mahomes- Stauback or Montana can't win with a defense like this. Why is Dallas always the practice school for horrible coaching??? Schotty is a first time head coach. Christian is a first time DC. What the hell could go wrong with this scenario?? And for God sake!!Go back to a 4-3. We don't have the linebackers to play a 3-4:facepalm:

I would like to announce I am unretired and now the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys!

Schotty was the wrong hire because Jerral liked him. Only twice did Jerral not bring in a yes man and we had success and real signs of success before they were run out.

I don't think the Cowboys will be a winner until the team is sold. There is no one in the family that has the chops to say I don't know and hire some expertise.

Sounds like you didn't spend much time watching the offense last night. They sucked almost as bad as the defense. This great offense you are absolving of any blame could only manage 16 points against an 0-4 defense. I don't normally say that Dak sucks and almost never lay the blame for a loss solely on his back, but last night he sucked. No, he isn't the only blame for the loss, but to give him a pass would be flat out wrong. He played a part. Period.

Shotty is NOT a NFL-caliber head coach; he wasn’t even the de-facto OC under MM; Jerry selected him because he is benign. Shotty isn’t going to make the players uncomfortable, or embarrass them for poor play; mistakes are going to be deflected with kid gloves vs holding the player(s) accountable and correcting said mistakes. So long as Jerry is the HC…I mean Owner of this team, no coach will ever eclipse him as the face of the Cowboys; his ego just won’t permit that.
The defense is just as bad as it was under Eberflus with a roster that supposedly was infused with better talent, but the same problems remain: poor run defense, no consistent pass rush and undisciplined play.
Tampa Bay came out in the second half and smacked Dallas in the mouth and the Boys folded; they appeared detached and uninterested in the game after the momentum change. Jerry will look at the score and cite a moral victory; but those watching the game know it was an embarrassing ***-kicking at hands of Tampa Bay.
Shotty should have had this team primed to play and execute a gameplan…and failed on both counts. And this wasn’t the only game where the Cowboys have come out flat and unprepared. Shotty has got to go, but the only problem is who will replace him. Does anybody think that any head coach worth is salt is going to tolerate Jerry’s meddling and interfering? So…the fans get to suffer through the Campo’s, Gailey’s, Wilson’s, Garrett’s and McCarthy’s while long-dormant NFL teams are ascending and winning.
Year 31 of mediocrity and counting…

If Dak had played better, such as made better throws and made better decisions, Tampa wouldn’t have had the ball as long as they did minus their first 10 minute drive or whatever it was. Dak was absolutely a large part of the reason TB had the ball so long.

Yea there are probably reasons but the OP is total nonsense

Yeah Daks fault for throwing ferg and flournoy a pass that hit both of their hands and was tipped up and intercepted. Its also Dak fault Turp fumbled the ball in special teams. Was Dak sharp as he has been most of the year? No let's not blame our poor defensive play on him.

BTW Turp almost fumbled the very next return too.

Not disagreeing with you at all, however, when the owner has created a culture where players can go around the coach and go to the owner to get what they want it doesn't matter if the coach is a player coach or a dictator. Eventually it catches up and the dictators we did have (Jimmy and Parcells) leave and the sock puppets coaches put up with it until they're fired for not producing.

I've always said this. I was NEVER a fan of Garrett or Schottensmier. The coach should always be a leader of men. A man that is a semi father figure. He is there to teach you to be a better man. A better player.

For another example, rick Carlyle is an amazing coach. They kicked him out of Dallas because the newer Gen z players don't like that type of coach but Rick made them competitive. Parcels, same.

We need a no nonsense, common sense coach that knows how to play chess in football. Football is won by inches and that takes every freaking scrap you can make, playing for yards, etc. These coaches have lost that ability. They want to be friends and liked. They want the media to like them. They want Jerry to like them.

We will never win a SB until Jerry shuts the F up and gives the power to an alpha coach that can play chess.

Do you want a present day example?

Harbaugh.

He finds ways to win, even with limitations.

Schottty only wins when everything is perfect and his players are happy.

Hell, i didnt even mind McCarthy, although I think he sucked at game management, but he found ways for his team to win.

The problem for him is that he was straddled with Dak. Dak will get you winning seasons. Dak for some reason can't deliver during big time games.

Blah I'm tired of posting here. It's the same sh1t every year. Nothing will ever change. I guess I'm here just for the futility of it. Im at the point where I just enjoy seeing the failures.

Shotty learned a lot from his dad and Pete Carroll. I don’t think being friends is where Shotty hurts. Shotty just isn’t a good coach.

Schotty is the wrong hire because Jerry the GM hired him. I can think of about 10 members of this forum that I’d rather have running the team. The thread about who in this forum would make a better owner than Jerry is one I like because I feel there’s some valid points in that thread.

Schotty was also the wrong hire because he sold culture as a hiring point. It struck a nerve with some fans, like me for instance, and for the Jones but culture doesn’t win games when the coach across the field can outsmart you. Schotty would have been a good hire as far as a “players relationship coach” which is a nice way of saying a professional coddler.

Pretty sure other QB’s thrown INT’s and and good passes that are dropped but still manage to win games. Friggin’ Jameis Winston threw 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s last week, I didn’t watch the game but I’m willing to bet there were a few dropped balls as well.

And I’m not absolving the defense but Dak absolutely had a large part in the loss and part, not all, of the reason the defense was out there so long was because Dak made some poor choices and throws that would have kept the offense on the field and the defense off.
