Elite offense?

It is just EMBARSSING to share a forum with "fans" who talk football and really don't understand what they are watching. The Dak contract has them out of their minds. We witnessed the worst defense in franchise history last year....is on it's way to being worst than that...and we see thread after thread after thread about what this offense is NOT. Make it make sense?

Is the offense perfect? No!!!!!!!!! But this defense is so historically bad, it needs the offense to be perfect for this team to have a chance. And because it does not appear as if the defense is going to get much better...the expectations for the offense have been raised for some fans. Hopefully we can get a run game going, because we are going to need it.
Half these guys have had this in the chamber since week 1 and couldn't wait to start firing rounds. This week is their big opportunity.

Anyone that says this needs to stop. This is a compiler against bad teams. Anytime this offense goes against a good Defense they become mediocre.

Just stop with the “this offense is great” nonsense.
Exactly, this has been the biggest disappointment for me. I knew the D would be a work in progress. They actually did okay in the first half. They only gave up 7, and should be 0 if not for Bland in the first. There is NO excuse at home for the offense to not come away with at least 3 every drive when they're typically starting around the 35. I'm not saying they need a TD every drive, but, assuming they don't get a TD, there is no reason they shouldn't be able to get to at least the opposing 45 for an Aubrey FG with how much money is invested in this offense. And, even if we keep Bland's hold 7 in, the halftime score should be around 13-7 or 16-7. That changes a lot of dynamics for the rest of the game.

Don't kid yourself sir. If Kyle Shanahan was running the Cowboys offense, no way in hell would they have lost to the Bucs. They might even be undefeated given the talent at the skill positions. The Cowboys ran a feast or famine offense Thursday night, chock full of vertical routes that often gave Prescott no way to beat the pressure he was under. Schottenheimer mailed it in big time. The all-22 doesn't lie. I watched every offensive and defensive snap.
That is exactly the problem.

And the sad part is that Dak appears to be good at slants and crosses. It's damm near impossible to guard those routes w/ any talent at WR at all.

A couple of key 3 and outs late don't show in the box score but they are just other examples of this not being a great offense.

Passing game is elite, but the offense as a whole isn't elite with one of the worst rushing attacks in the league.

This is the problem we have on offense

We should stop listening to this "GOTI" mantra. Wasn't too smart for players (Dak & ?) to respond to that label. It's alright to have the confidence, but pump the brakes on "GOTI". We should simply say what I've stated....."The offense needs to be flawless and/or score 30+".........when the offense hits some snags or encounters some bumps in the road.............simply put............We in trouble.

It's been this way for a while. It has gotten so bad and acceptable that.........when the D has a stop or two, amongst gashings, long drives, and opposing QBs having time in the pocket to order lunch.............we applaud our D to some degree, and shift blame to Dak and the offense. This is the NFL. We're not a good team. We have a respectable offense, but we're still a bad team......in the mediocre to bad range. Too many holes. Not realistic to expect one phase and Aubrey to carry this team.

Not worried about the offense. Worried about the defense and special teams. Moreover, I'm worried about the messaging from the HC and DC. I feel like they are neutered by Jerry. But I will say this, Shotty doesn't seem to be HC material. He's too worried about what his players think.

Context...

We are 3rd in the NFL in offensive spending. We are 28th in defensive spending. We spend 70.8% more of our cap on offense than defense. $164.4 million vs. $96.2 million

The cap hit for Dak, Perkins, and Lamb combined this year is $91 million. That is $5 million less than we are spending on all 26 defensive players. Let that sink in. Our top 5 cap hits are all on offense. We spend more on them than the entire defense.

This team is built heavily on offense. Heavily.

Right now, the third-highest-paid offense in the league is right where it should be in scoring, 3rd and 8th in yards (not counting the Bucs game since other teams haven't played 5 yet).

The 28th highest-paid defense is 27th in points allowed and 28th in yards allowed.

It is just as embarrassing to share a forum with someone who doesn't understand where a team puts a majority of its resources in talent and cap space in team building. In this case, the Cowboys have been, for years, spending a lion's share of space on the offense, pretty much ignoring talent on defense. This is the result. The team is getting exactly what is paying for. A defense with little talent, little spent to retain talent, and little spent to bring in talent.

We changed that a bit this offseason, but it's not just like a light switch. This needs to be a continued focus.

So, Yes, hopefully we can get the run game going. We are going to need it because we spent 70% more of our resources on it. The team literally depends on it, and the offense can't seem to get it right. Dak, Perkins, and Lamb should be performing better too, considering we value them as much as we seem to value our entire defense this season (from a cap perspective).

What a silly post. Defense just got murdered by a undrafted rookie and the discussion is “we aren’t an elite offense”….damn.
I don't know that it's silly. We all know about the defense. But knowing that, isn't it a bit worrisome that Dallas put up 16 points against the Bucs? What's going to happen when we play the Rams and Seahawks?

I firmly believe Schotty is in over his head. I think he could be a good playcaller if that is all he had to focus on. I was responding to someone who pointed out where this offense ranks in relation to other offenses in the NFL this year...and Dallas is leading or top 2 or 3 in most categories. So our 2-3 record is not good...but the offense is nowhere near the primary culprit. There is not a perfect offense in the NFL...but it seems like that is what it is going to take for this team to be succesful.
You need to go and look at his coaching history. He’s been demoted at doing that. He’s not good.

We are probably going to get beat down. No matter how good or bad the offense is….the defense is 10xs worse. So yeah the least of my concern is whether or not the offense is elite. I’m so sick of that word. How about we get to good first?

The second they started self-appointing themselves GOTI, they put a target on their backs. These kinds of threads are the side effects of calling yourself that. Yes, the defense is the worst side of the ball, but when you label yourself elite and have a chance to close out a game with a drive or two, going three-and-out is not a good look.

If you’re going to call yourselves elite, you’re going to get held to elite standards.

It shouldn't be the least of your concerns, because that's the only way to keep up. Otherwise I agree with you. I don't know if you're old enough, but back during the greatest show on turf days, and the years after their SB win, the offense asked the bad defense to just keep the opponent to 30 points, and we'll do the rest. The early 80s Chargers had a crap D, but yet their offense got them to an AFC championship game. This was our hope. But of course I am talking about teams with hall of fame quarterbacks, and we have Dak.
