Cowboys still haven't recovered from Parsons trade yet

This isn’t about discussing whether it was a good trade or not. I think we have exhausted that discussion.

No doubt we received much in compensation . But what we have received thus far hasn’t enabled this defense and team to fully recover.

If anything this defense has continued to decline and it’s much worse in last two years than previously with Parsons.

So, do we have to wait another year and draft to begin to recover and rebuild this defense. Do we have the right coaching in place. Was our trade for Q the right use of resources???

Right now I’d argue we have more questions than answers and we haven’t recovered from Parsons trade yet.
Just responding to your title, that's true

This, wasn’t like the D with him was Doomsday II, he could get to the QB but D still couldn’t stop the run, and a lot of that came from his side, because he was running past the RB towards the QB.
2024 PFF rush defense grades.

Micah: 70.2
Lawson: 58.8
Golston: 53.3
Osa: 50.8
Kneeland: 50.8
Joseph: 37.6
Mazi: 28.5

Clark (GB): 57.1

Min. 250 defensive snaps

Note: this was PFF before the Teamworks cashout when PFF had real analysts, including the greatness of Sam and Steve (and Mike Renner) who built the company. PFF is junk now.

The bold is spot on. Is Parsons a better individual player than anybody in the front 7 now? Most assuredly. But we had seen the ceiling with him and needed to do something to break that ceiling.

I felt the same about signing Dak the last time. As with Parsons, we know the ceiling with Dak. That's not completely on Dak, but it's obvious that a change is needed to break that ceiling. It's what a well-run organization like the Eagles would do.
The Eagles have a quarterback that is not as good as Prescott. What they do have is a philosophy on offense that the Cowboys still won't emulate...even though they have six years of evidence from the 1990s to follow. And where has it led? The vacuous castigation of two quarterbacks that had/have the skillset to reach a superbowl. And don't tell me they don't because if Jimmy Garropolo...or Rex Grossman...or Trent Dilfer can do it then they could as well.

No. It's been the Tony/Dak do or die offense. And when they don't rescue the team every sunday...every season then they are trash and we need the NEXT guy who will labor under the same delusional system that believes it will win a superbowl NOT following the 1990s script.

Would you trade Prescott for Hurts? If you would then you would be a dmn fool.

The quarterback is not the problem. The offensive philosophy is...and has been since Romo took over in 2006. Romo single-handedly kept Jason Garrett in Dallas FAR TOO LONG. This offense is succeeding in spite of Schottenheimer...not because of it and the all-22 from Thursday night was an indictment of him.

I still don't get why they hired a kid to teach other kids the defense? Another Coach in training. Pitiful, the kid is over his head.
Hmm. Here are our four DCs since 2020 and the Cowboys defensive ranking in their final year.

Eberflus - Head Coach (32nd)
Quinn - Head Coach (5th)
Zimmer - Head Coach (31st)
Nolan - Head Coach (23rd)

We complained a thousand times about the Cowboys having retreat coaches.

We try to break that trend and the board is full of jokes about him being a kid or playing Nintendo.

This is Parker’s 7th year as an NFL coach and before that he had six years as a college coach.

I don't think this is accurate. I think we haven't recovered from the Mazi/Schoonmaker drafting and the Bland/Diggs/Steele contracts. That is why we don't have a good D. The D was 28th w/ Parsons his last year here. Already falling apart.

That's fair, despite the criticism from fans he was the one guy on the defense that opposing teams had to plan for and clearly it elevated the whole defense.

At this point the collective talent added in his place just hasn't made the same impact. Maybe that changes, but no question this defense 5 games in looks to be no better than week 1 which is surprising.

This, really the Taco Bell draft really started the ball rolling and never recovered since. Whiffing out on first rounders when trying to get the D up to snuff and doing little in FA will kill you.

No doubt previous poor drafts, contracts, etc contributed.

But we traded him so we could build a better defense, etc. So, instead of recovering we appear to have taken even a further step back. So far anyway.

Surely this isn’t where many of those thought we’d be ?

He's outweighed by 80 lb at least so he wears down at the end of games and end of seasons, can't play The run, has a bad attitude, and would have taken one half of the cap when combined with lamb and dak. Letting him go was absolutely the right thing to do.

That's the whole "We like our guys" attitude we have. At one time Bland, Diggs, Parsons, looked good on paper. But there should be someone there constantly evaluating talent, and ready to replace it when someone loses their edge. Who knew Bland and Diggs would fall so low when at one time people thought that could be one of the better CB Combos. Organizations like the Eagles move on from Players. We like our guys.

WTH are you talking about? The defense was really bad with Parsons actually the defense may have been worse especially the run defense

We pay people here and then they generally stop producing. Im not sure it would have been much different with Micah
