Cowboys still haven't recovered from Parsons trade yet

This would suggest we took a step back as a result of the trade. One we haven't recovered from. I think we were already in free fall before the trade. It started with the playoff game against GB. Then the offseason leading into the 2024 season was a disgrace. Then during the season teams were putting up 40 on us, including the saints. I say the D sucked before the Parsons trade, and would have continued to suck with or without the Parsons trade.
That’s entirely possible but we didn’t suk as bad .

But we do know the state of the defense without him. Parsons alone probably wouldn't make a difference. But as I recall the pass rush wasn't so much an issue when we had him. Run defense was the problem and their answer was to trade away the guy who provided the pass rush in hopes of fixing the run defense and still maintaining a respectable pass rush. That has overwhelmingly failed.
My issue with Parsons was that he put all his eggs in the pass rush basket. He would abandon the edge responsibility and as this became evident, teams starting attacking that edge wit TEs and Backs coming out of the backfield. He was physically outmatched, and the toll of that was quickly catching up. Our staff misused and abused him, he wanted sacks to get a contract....worked out for both, but he definitely would not be playing at the same level if he had stayed here. Our coaches didn't know how to use him or, now that I think about it, they misused on purpose, knowing he was on his way out

This isn’t about discussing whether it was a good trade or not. I think we have exhausted that discussion.

No doubt we received much in compensation . But what we have received thus far hasn’t enabled this defense and team to fully recover.

If anything this defense has continued to decline and it’s much worse in last two years than previously with Parsons.

So, do we have to wait another year and draft to begin to recover and rebuild this defense. Do we have the right coaching in place. Was our trade for Q the right use of resources???

Right now I’d argue we have more questions than answers and we haven’t recovered from Parsons trade yet.
They never will. It was a terrible trade at the time and then it followed with more bad trades.

I think it's some fans that can't recover from that trade. Parsons was becoming a cancer in Dallas. On top of that, he was playing out of position, going against much bigger players and getting double teamed....it was just a matter of time before that style of play would catch up with him, and it did, in GB. He hasn't played in about a year, but his trade is the reason we suck. Ok
Dumb take and coping to make yourself feel better.

He wasn’t a cancer. Players hold out. Was Joey Porter Jr. a cancer in Pittsburgh?

Players also tear ACLs. It’s part of playing a contact sport.

When players are traded for draft picks (I know we got some players) the entire transaction can't be evaluated 14 months later. Judging the defense post Parsons also includes a lot of rookies and new defensive coaching staff.

For the record, the Cowboys won the trade. Getting rid of his contract was a good thing. And having him on the team now wouldn't have made much difference. We weren't significantly better with him.
Cowboys won the trade to the tune of bringing in a bunch of guys who still havent matched Micahs production and never will.

Yall just eat up anything Jerry feeds you.

We are one of the worst in the NFL at getting to the QB, cant force a turnover, and STILL cant stop the run.

What did we win exactly? If by winning you mean getting worse, then yes. We definitely won.

The reality the FO created a false dichotomy of “we can’t improve the team if we pay Micah all this money. So, we can either pay him and have our defense suck or trade him and improve” that some fans bought into.

The team never thought outside the box to improve the defense with Micah there.

I agree we didn't win the trade, but under the circumstances, we didn't lose it either. Parsons only wanted to be here for the attention thay comes with being a Cowboy. That became evident with his podcast and his attitude once the negotiations weren't going his way.

Some fans....yeah, it's easy to come in, after the fact and act like a genius....typical, I told you so, crap that makes some feel good about themselves. Hey, if it works, great. They can lift up their collar and look down on us regular fans.

A cancer?

The emotional ferocity that fans took toward a player who didn’t fit their 1970’s vision of how a football player should “behave”, despite the fact that team leaders back then were doing cocaine and having debauched parties similar to the “White House”, is rich. Imagine if social media was a thing in the 70s and 90s

When a boss and two of his children go on a nationwide press tour, doing good morning America of all place, with all three using the word “control” to publicly describe your contract negotiations, how is a player who is 1st out of 53 supposed to feel?

The first two PR driven contracts that get done, at huge overpays after he’s jettisoned? Luepke and Ferguson. Two guys who will always kiss the ring but fans loved. Shocking I know.

Lol. Maybe they'll take a nap like Parsons did on the sidelines.
When I see somebody deny that parsons has low football character it tells me quite a bit about them.

If you want to call him a top pass rusher fine. But to outright lie for him is just.....incredible

But, but but. Parsons ate nachos on the sideline during a preseason game! And He laid down on a table during another meaningless preseason game. And, the most egregious sin of all? He had a podcast!! OMG!

Seriously, Parsons was a generational talent. You don't just draft players like that. There is no replacing Micah Parsons and what he can do to an offense. They shouldn't try. The only thing they can do is upgrade the talent elsewhere, which they have done at CB with Porter, DT with Q Williams, and hopefully S/CB with Downs and LB with Barham - fingers crossed.

They also need a DC to get the most out of what they have.

The Cowboys have tried to improve at DE. It hasn't worked out for them. Ezeiruaku came to Dallas with a lot of hype and fanfare, but it is become obvious he is nothing more than a JAG.. Von Miller is another mistake. Too late for him. They should have signed Clowney and many people here said so. Clowney is not Micah Parsons, but he is significantly better than what Dallas has now.

I am curious to see what happens when everyone is healthy again, if that ever happens. The Parker has no excuses. What I see now is the parts are greater than their sum, and that is on the coaches.

This would matter if the Cowboys hadn't traded those picks for players who have not been able to replace him. They also paid inferior players top of market contracts instead that have not panned out that was only possible because of him.

For the record, the Cowboys lost the trade. We have already seen how the defense went from top 5 when he was on the field, to the worst in the NFL in the past 2 years. Paying contracts instead to lesser players is a bad thing. There are now 2 teams that look elite with him and awful without him. At some point it has to be said that the Cowboys are worse off now than they were 14 months ago despite using those picks to reload.
