Something nobody is talking about. do we win with Joey Porter

Until this defense develops discipline and tackling skills to stop the run, the secondary makes no difference, and neither does our offense. JPJ makes our secondary better, but a team that cannot stop the run will never win anything.

no,this team is broken beyond repair.best bet is a fire sale and a young coach with Brains to the lead but Jerry will never allow it.

Nope, I said it during the game, Dak was not throwing the ball very well in that game so they wouldn’t have scored enough. Also they would have throw to the other side and still mage yards, Porter covers one side/ man and does stop the run

Or the $60M man could have found a way to go more than 3/4th of the game without scoring.

I get what you were trying to do there, but unfortunately this isn't a Dak thread. This is a threads about Porter. Yeah the Cowboys team consists of more than one player to depend on for winning games.

This isn't boxing or golf. There's other players paid to block, run, catch passes, stop the run, defend passes, recover punts and kicks, block for punts and kicks and kick fgs and extra points.

Again, this isn't boxing or golf.

Just make sure it includes the pass being slightly behind Fergie, like what happened in the game
it wasnt close to being behind him. It was thrown right to his lower helmet. thrown hard... but that's what QBs do right? A lot of tight ends can make that play.

I get Bowles helped us out by that 4th and 1 try, but even when the team around Dak was sucking the whole game, doing countlessly dumb things... especially Bland and Fergie - the Quarterback still came within a Fergie's helmet bounce from tying the game.

Anybody with sense who saw the game realizes the game was not on the QB. I dont think any of the smart analysts are saying that it is. It's the usual Dak haters who say that.

I’m confused….are you saying they don’t miss Law and Micah and Quinn?

Of course they do. With those guys they just choked in big games and playoff games. They at least showed up against the bad teams so we of course miss that. But when yall reminiscence about them I just have to quickly remind you guys that all of them were there for the Packers debacle. You guys pretend they weren’t but they were there.

And no…that doesn’t mean Micah sucks I don’t know where ther comes from.
Yes.... since Micah and D-Law left, Cowboys are no longer the team that beats bad teams and loses to all the good teams.

It's just the team that has random losses and random wins like last year, and that's what looks like this year. But they can't string together a consistent season. They're like a normal NFL team now.

That beat the bad teams period in 2019, 2021, and 2023 was more based on D-Law, the original Garrett front 7, and then the early McCarthy built teams centered around Micah than it was on the Quarterback.

So I think we've seen proof that it wasn't Dak who was beating all the bad teams and losing to all the good teams..... it was Micah and D-Law and that defensive front who now are mostly departed.

He had the year where he set the record for pick 6s.

Hasnt been good or even close to that since.

And if we are being honest.

The one thing Ive noticed is since Micah was traded, this D has had the worst downward spiral in the NFL.

They cant rush the passer, cant INT the ball, cant force turnovers.

I know, I know, Micah sucked.

You cant ignore that this defense hasnt recovered from that trade, and they have brought in a lot of guys.

Explain to me how this D is this bad when 4 years ago they were a top 10 unit.

Quinn and Micah/DLaw are the only major losses.

So what is it?
And a majority of the pick 6s were horrible throws by bad QBs staring down their WRs.. allowing Bland to break on the ball well in advance. A lot of that was probably because of Micah messing up a QBs internal clock.

The defense certainly was a huge variable and I think the primary variable as to why we lost. Most would agree with that, I think.

The offense shares a huge portion of the blame too however.

Couldn't run the ball at all.

Receivers weren't getting out in space and Dak had to throw in tight windows all night.

Multiple dropped passes on balls that were thrown well within the “gotta catch that” spectrum.

However...

Dak Prescott was erratic as hell all night.

Underthrown balls…

Overthrown balls…

Misaligned throws that gave a receiver very little chance of success…

And yes, even the tipped balls also fall on his shoulders, too. A tipped ball at the line or second level isn't a play where the QB gets to say he's blameless, especially when it leads to an INT.

It's all the more glaring because of $60 million and his prima donna reaction to a fan.

What about the offense that could only muster 16 points against an 0-4 defense?

I really wish people would stop putting the losses solely on the back of the defense. It wasn't the defense that had a 1st and goal from the 1 and failed to get the ball into the endzone
Offense gets the big bucks and had a poor outing. The defense stinking doesn't alter that.

People like to assign blame more than assess performance. Both the offense and the defense sucked. It's not either/or.

Bland gives up a 65 yard pass. Could've been the difference in a one possession game.

Porter was so great against the Texans.
Another thing no one is talking about

Do we win with Mahomes or Allen or Lamar or Stafford or Burrow or……

I'm not putting the game on Dak, but rather on an offense that could only manage 10 points until the last 6 minutes of the 4th qtr.

Now about the last INT - go to the 16:56 mark and watch the play again. (https://www.nfl.com/videos/game-highlights-buccaneers-vs-cowboys-week-5)

Fergie had to twist to the left to get his hands on the ball because it was slightly behind him.

I've watched the replay over and over and the ball was very clearly thrown behind Fergie. It was't a good throw, but that doesn't mean the whole game was on Dak. No one is saying that from what I have seen, but you decided to go on the defense anyway

I didnt say it was all on the defense.

That pass was right on the spot. Maybe could've hit him a bit lower so that his body could block it - but 1) there was a defender behind him. 2) receivers are paid to make plays like that... lol, even when the ball is thrown on their hands instead of their body lol.

You fail. That was 100% not on the QB. Should've tied the game despite the rest of the team besides Dak playing like crap the whole game. who else was even good?

Dak played like crap, too and then cemented his performance with the way he interacted with a fan of the team

And you just flat out refuse to blame Dak for anything. If that pass is 12 inches left its an easy catch. But whatever, Dak walks on water in your eyes.

Even with Porter on the field the Bucs still pick on Daron Bland Thursday.

Bland literally fell down on that 64 yard catch and then dropped a pick six late. If Dak and Jake Ferguson and Parker and Schotty weren't around Bland would be public enemy number one around here.

No denying Dak played poorly, but neither interception was on him. NFL tight ends need to make that catch that Ferg tipped for a game ending pick. Was it an easy catch? No. But this is the pros and things aren't going to be easy all the time.

It was only a one possession game because Todd Bowles allowed it to be a 1 possession game. Porter has nothing to do with dumb coaches. Our team finds ways to lose. We're a 6 to 8 win team this year. With or without Porter.

It would have helped, but the rest of the D just isn’t playing well, missing tackles, lack of effort they have shown (especially on the long run), bad coverage, zero pressure. Combined with Turpin fumbling and receivers dropping passes into picks…just an all around terrible game, don’t know if JPJ is enough.
