Re-watched the Tampa Game-thoughts/opinions

Downs is a far better player inside the box then as a roof safety. Unfortunately they are mash unit at the safety position.
Which is why he never should have been a priority for this team.

The Boys are due to make up for their pathetic performance vs. Tampa! Will they? Good question!

There's a pretty good chance it'd be difficult to find many Cowboys fans that feel confident in them!
As the pendulum swings....likely.

Offense

-Something was off with Dak. His accuracy was all over the place, majority of his throws were high. He usually feasts when teams blitz them, but struggled throughout the night. Footwork was also terrible.
I don't like to talk about it on here because this board is so anti-Dak but I completely agree. He was WAY OFF. I haven't seen him look that unprepared or unsettled since year two. I also found it odd, that when they cut to him on the sidelines, he wasn't in the tablet looking at the formations, he wasn't talking to coaches or teammates, he was just sitting, often head down. Very strange.

I'm chalking it up to travel but they came right out and drove the field and scored, then it just crumbled.

The coach needs to counter with quick slants behind the blitz, and make them pay. We kept trying to have those long developing down field plays.
Yes, try something. What’s so telling is that every OC in the NFL knows that Todd Bowles likes to blitz and you better have something to counter it. They had nothing.

He made some stinky throws when he had time.
:muttley:
He rarely had time. The defense is getting worse every game and is why the team is losing. Horrible defensive play cascades throughout the entire team ie field position, play calling etc. But keep blaming the QB. I like to know who’s posts to read and who’s not to.

Wow, you’re a sage.

The Eagles are 2-3 and have looked more pedestrian than Dallas.

Do you feel the same way about them or are you just here to pile on?
I stated Dallas sucked in the preseason. And I listed all the ways in which they suck. Nothing to take personally. They are no worse than any of the other teams in the N.F.C. Least. However many Dallas Cowboys cognitively challenged fans are the ones that are unrealistic and seem to be shocked or annoyed every year.. And fall for the same okie doke every year.

Offense

-Something was off with Dak. His accuracy was all over the place, majority of his throws were high. He usually feasts when teams blitz them, but struggled throughout the night. Footwork was also terrible.
-Tampa corners were sitting on the underneath routes, dared the Cowboys to beat them over the top.
-Both interceptions were on fastballs where it bounced off both Ferguson and Flournoy.
-Run game struggled throughout the game.
-Schott's decision to go for 2, made zero sense. You also play for the tie at home.

Defense

-Outside of 1st drive, thought the defense is the 1st half wasn't bad. That 1st drive they could of gotten off the field multiple times, several penalties kept the drive going.
-2nd Half the wheels came off and that snowball affect started where they couldn't stop the momentum. 1st the long run to start the half was poor tackling, they should of stopped the run early on. The huge pass on the next drive was due to Bland falling, he is healthy? This is unacceptable. Then you have the Turpin fumble.
-Giving up that 3rd and 20 plus was a back breaker. We have seen CP play soft zone in the same situation with the same results. However, when they do blitz, they never hit home.
-Downs is a far better player inside the box then as a roof safety. Unfortunately they are mash unit at the safety position.
-I see a defense that is very finesse, struggle to take on blocks, pass rushers look like they quit after they get stopped after the 1st move, tackling in space is a problem. Just not a physical team, which has to be addressed at some point
-The outside runs have been an issue for this defense for years, inconsistent of setting an edge.
-I do think some players started to quit as the game got out of hand.

Couple of my opinions-something isn't right with Bland, is it confidence/injury? He looks like Diggs from last season. Think they need another physical linebacker next to Barham. Downs needs to play inside the box as that is where his strength is. Front office is going to have to get help for this pass rush, outside of Lawrence who flashes.
There was NOTHING off with Dak on that first drive where he made it look too easy. There's not one QB in NFL that likes pressure. Especially up the middle. In that playoff game, our defense made Tom Brady look scared and confused all game. Rex Ryan and the Jets gave Brady fits in NE, all because of pressure.

Something changed after that first drive when they fell asleep on the bench while waiting for 11 game minutes and 20 real time minutes for the Bucs to finish off that drive.

I did see them going into Fangio type of scheme that Fangio created for Dak when he was with the Broncos. Show blitz then back off into zone coverage. The wrinkle is showing a LBer blitz then the LBer's backs off into zone coverage while a CB blitzes. Like we did to Brady, a great D coordinator can disrupt any QB in the NFL. Todd Bowles in the SB, held Mahomes and Ried to ZERO TD's and the worst playoff game in Mahomes career with a 52 percent passer rating.

Then all of sudden they woke up when the game was in its final stretch and made a failed comeback attempt. I don't know if that's on the coaches or players, or both. I'm guessing both.

The defense is just awful right now. I have no idea what's going on there. I'm no fan of Jerry but he did look at a loss for words after that debacle. If we do lose to the Packers in similar fashion, I can see a change in one of the coaches, or both.

Sounds about right, wish we had fred warner.
I saw similar stuff, but I can also see more age related problems popping up for Dak. Last year he must have really busted his butt to get in the shape he was in because he was more mobile than the previous year. This year he’s still in very good shape, but he looks considerably slower when he must scramble at all. When he gets flushed from the pocket or has to go sideways to then attempt a pass I can see a major difference (and I think he can feel a difference). He knows that he cannot get away from rushers like he once could and I think he REALLY wants to avoid any big hits at this point in his career (taken very few sacks this year compared to other QBs). His agility is going way down, and if he knows that he may be chucking the ball away more quickly to avoid big hits (which can definitely lead to throwing mechanics issues and sailing the ball).

I think that’s also why the huge focus on rebuilding the offensive line as quickly as possible happened and why they would not give up Pickens this past offseason. Got to give Dak as many quick pass options as possible (guys that can win one on one matchups quickly) and keep him clean for as long as possible. Jerry and Stephen have constructed this team with Dak as the centerpiece, for years. Then they throw a Hail Mary at the defense to try to salvage this season and it may work because the division is so awful.
This is his problem right now…..

No receivers love wobbly passes that are still ascending in arc and velocity as it catapults towards them at 7 yards away
So basically you're giving Ferguson an excuse that the ball that hit him in the facemask was too difficult to catch while holding the QB to the standard of having to place a ball perfectly because the supporting cast is so bad. Ok then.

In the words of Dennis Reynolds, "these are the theories of lunatics!"

Was it part of your parole sentence or did someone pay you do do it

With respect to Bland, I posted below and believe it is the problem with Bland.

With respect to everything else that went wrong on Thursday, from my opinion it was a combination of mental and physical fatigue, coupled with lack of preparation and overconfidence that they could come out and turn it on whenever they want to against an inferior team. They seem to always approach these games against inferior opponents as if they are a varsity team going against a JV team or top 25 ranked team going against a Div II team. Forgetting this is an NFL team and the margins between the worst team and the best is not that far removed (in the case of the Bucs, all of their losses were by 8pts or less).

One of the many downfalls of this team is believing every player who comes back from a major injury, will always revert back to their capabilities prior to their injury. What they fail to recognize is that the majority do not and when it doesn't happen they take, we'll give it one more year removed to return to your previous form, then two years, then three years. Then they finally realize they will never return and by that time, you wasted 4 years at that particular position. We've seen it time and time again, whether it's their own players, draft picks, or high draft picks they pickup through FA. It gets worst when said player has a single breakout year before their next contract and we overpay on potential and not production.
Now your just showing off!

Shotty calling the plays unless Dak is checking out to plan B. Seems like with a 10 plus year starting QB this wouldn't be that hard to fix? What am I missing?
Nope Shotty is calling the plays for sure! On the last two drives Dak was calling the plays because there was no time for plays coming in from the sideline and they went right down the field d like they could have done the entire game if Shotty would give up the play calling. I believe Shotty knows if this team fails like last year, he knows he's done so i think he has decided if im going out im going out calling the game my way not someone else's way.
