I hope this hire will help turn this defense around. Gotta give credit to the FO for bringing him in to "assist" C. Parker.

Looking at his bio, I think the best we can hope is that he can bring more blitzing to the table. It isn't like he's been a great defensive coordinator. He's only been a DC in two stops and the longest was three years in Green Bay. He improved the Packers defense but it had some major letdowns in the playoffs and he was let go. He built his rep under Rex Ryan and never lived up to his mentor's level. Kind of like Parker has done so far.

Otherwise, what’s the point of hiring a coach like MP?

I think it will be more of Pettine helping with game planning, helping run practice, extra eyes on the defensive personnel, and in-game adjustments.

Don't have him calling plays unless it is announced that Parker is being demoted or relieved of duty.

I will admit, I'm far more interested in the season after hearing this news. Perhaps out of curiosity, or optimism that we can play with intensity and focus. Perhaps this spills over to the offense as well.

parker needs all the help he can get.
he doesn't have a clue.
maybe pettine can stop the bleeding on that side of the ball.
maybe this is a soft coup at def coord.
at least they did "something".

The problem is also the play calling during games.

As the Packers defensive coordinator form 2018-20, Pettine gave Parker his first job in the NFL in 2019. When hired, Parker attempted to talk Pettine out of retirement. Now six weeks into the season, Parker has a veteran coach as a sounding board.

Any additional perspective on how to fix this defense is welcome.

They're not penalized that often. They've been called for 9 DPI/Illegal Contact/Holding which is pretty middle of the pack.

Heck the receivers are so wide open we not close enough to get more PIs.

Shotty doesn’t have GM duties.

Mike is a friend and mentor. I don't think Jerry and Jerry is smart enough to know that. Now they signed off on it that's for sure but prove to me that it was Jerry and Jerry's idea to call to bring in Mike. I don't mind admitting I'm wrong. But I think it was either Shotty or CP's idea, I'm thinking it was CP's.
