Signed by Cowboys Mike Pettine to join Cowboys staff

Bland excels at Man coverage. ~50 percent comp. allowed

He's a ball hawk and thrives on man press coverage.

The soft cover read zones are not using his abilities.
I do think that's part of the problem. I also actually agree with what the team says about him being better suited for the field corner position than boundary corner. Boundary corners are left on an island more, which means they have to follow/chase receivers all over the field. The field corner works the wider side of the field, but is more free to make breaks on the ball because he generally is going to get safety help.

Bland isn't at his best shadowing receivers and trying to play them deep and short. He's at his best with his eyes back to the quarterback and coming forward to play the ball.

Ol Jerry's biggest problem is he is cheap on paying a coaching staff, and he limits who he will let coach here. Also their are good coaches in the league who would not coach here under Ol Jerry. The main problem is Ol Jerry, a smart and less egotistical person would have bought the team and hired a great GM to make it successful.
No -- he is cheap in all areas because he is cash poor. This is why he delays contracts. This is why he underspends on new HCs. this is why a lot of things.

Ryan does have a track record of putting together top defenses, whether anyone likes him or not. My choice was Wade Phillips. Phillips was still coaching until he had a medical issue last year. He said it was caused by a prescription issue and wanted to return to coaching, but the UFL team he was coaching folded. He then retired ... but I don't think it would have taken much to talk him out of retirement. Phillips has put together defenses that helped teams reach Super Bowls in three stops. He generally has had one of the top defenses wherever he's gone, and even did it in the UFL, where his team reached the championship in 2024.

I don't know if Phillips' scheme could marry to Parker's, but I do know that he knows defense ... his defense in Denver carried a mediocre offense to a Super Bowl title.

From what I've read, he doesn't have any hard feelings toward the Joneses. Maybe he's happy in retirement now, but I'd bet he would have accepted a consulting role to be the one to help this team accomplish what it couldn't when he was here.
Yeah, Phillips is another one who has a long history of putting together a good D scheme, at several stops too.

Perhaps, but would you prefer they do nothing?
Oh I am just tickled to death to see them still trying to try new things to get this defense better. No I would be aggravated if they set on there hands and did absolutely nothing like they used to do. This team needs a spark to get them going, can Pettine provide that spark I hope so.

Yall should look up Dexter Lawrence and Gervon Dexters PFF grades…..and then look at Quinnens…..my lord, we traded for the wrong dude.

I really thought he was brought in to be the unofficial DC, but you might be right. The question is, is there someone to take over the offense?

Honestly, with Dak being in year 11, we just need a decent play caller. That's probably not hard to find. Honestly, our current OC can probably be decent lol.

I strogly believe this entire coaching staff is holding a very talented Dallas team back. Can you imagine if we had Kyle Shanahan or Shawn McVay running this offense. You can certainly tell that the players are frustrated.

And honestly, wouldn't be the worst thing with where Dak is in his career to have a HC with a focus on the D? We don't need a top of the line play caller. We need someone who can focus on the D at HC (helps he knows Parker), and we need someone who can just run the offense through Dak and be solid in the RZ as the OC. I wouldn't complain if Pettine is the next HC if we can't get Flores, Tomlin, or McDermott.

This is proof that Shotty is freaking out right now. The Jones boys are not happy. He hired somebody who has no business being a DC.

It isn't going to work, and Mike Tomlin is circling like a buzzard.

One of the gripes from local media was they didnt have any experience in the room. There weren't any old heads to advise etc. I dunno, but it cant get any worse so why not?
We said it couldn’t get any worse before the season started. How did that turn out?
