Under what circumstances can this defense become good?

The Bucs game was a total cringe, especially for our defense. Yet, we all know Christian Parker is new and a lot of players are new. Players need to commit their defensive scheme to muscle memory, and it doesn't happen overnight. Did I think they would be a lot farther along than they showed? Absolutely. It was painful to watch how they kept missing assignments and getting burned. It could be a train wreck season, but I wouldn't say at this point that that's inevitable. Maybe these guys can still gel and become cohesive and thus a lot better. I don't mean to post an empty pep talk. I'm not saying if they work hard, they can definitely become a top 5 defense. But things can change quickly in athletics. We've seen teams stink it up in the first part of the season and then get it together with winning streaks down the stretch. And I don't think it would be smart to fire a defensive coordinator after only 5 games.

I'm not saying I'm convinced that this D will definitely become great. I'm just wondering if it might be able to improve, thus giving this team a better chance to win. I also don't think the NFC East is looking like all that strong of a division, at least it isn't from what we've seen so far.

Im not even hoping for middle of the pack anymore. Just give me a defense ranked in the lows 20s and I'll take my chances.

Bringing in an experienced proven DC to help CP.

They can't. Best we can hope so is mediocre....if Parker uses these 10 days dissecting his scheme and talent, figuring out a scheme that would best use his best players and cover for his worst.
Pettine coming in, is a great move. I'm assuming he spent the weekend in the film room with Parker and Uber eats. It's become more of a mind thing, in my opinion. Doesn't seem like the players have bought into parker....the lack of preseason reps and several injuries have made it tough on him. He should have brought in a mentor type coach from the jump. It's easy to be cocky as a young coach and very hard when you get slap of reality across the face.

I can't imagine why he was cocky...I mean the Dallas fans and media were fitting him for a gold jacket before they ever took a regular season snap.

Get some consistent sacks along with pressure.
2 a game at important 3rd down moments.
All of a sudden Bland "might" even jump a route and hold onto a pick if steady "actual" pressure is applied. Or maybe another corner cuz Bland looks done imo, lol.

Coaches also need to clean up the most basic of fundamentals.
Like emphasizing the importance of proper tackling.

Gimme that for a start and I'll bet it all 3 levels would show improvement.

If Bland, Gary, Revel, Von Miller, Dee Winters workout with Britt Brown on the sidelines all game long!!!!

Scrap the Cover Read scheme.

Burn that play sheet Kid Wonder has been carrying around.

Also doesn't take TC, preseason, and 5 games.

Maybe if the NFL makes the forward pass illegal and the offense can only play with 7 guys on the field at a time, we might could crack the top 20

That might work. My plan was to petition the NFL to let the Cowboys be the only team with 20 defensive players on the field. But your idea might work too.
