Why do you want to make the playoffs?

I’m ready for somebody with an attitude bigger than Jerry, Deion Sanders comes to mind

I keep seeing this recurring theme here about wanting to make the playoffs, and while I get it, I really dont.

Being on this forum I am convinced a lot of you dont watch other football teams play.

If Dallas squeaks into the playoffs, it will be to get embarrassed nationally. There is no amount of "growth" this defense can have this season that will help them against LA, SF, or a host of other NFC teams that run hard, and play to win.

So other than your own "fan" inside, which makes me question the word because any self respecting fan wouldnt want to just get there so they can be "right".

This team needs an exorcism and the only way that happens is if they lose, a lot, and the NFL pulls their primetime slots.

You want to know when Jerry will care? When that happens.

So please, stop cheering for other teams to lose, get hurt, just so the lowly Cowboys can sneak in to get curb stomped by SF, again.

Or please explain to me why you even want to get there. You know this is going to happen. It is not a what if.
I agree. Don't include me in that category.

My wanting consists exclusively of getting into super bowl contention. Squeaking into the playoffs at 8-9 holds no interest to me.

What if we’re completely healthy, and win our last four games

Why?? Anything can happen in the playoffs. You just never know.
Not w/o a dominant aspect to your team.

Most teams w/ subpar record who made a super bowl run did so on the backs of a dominant DLine. Why? Because to beat playoff QBs you get in their face and stay their and shut down the run.

Teams w/ weak D's don't play in super bowls. Only exception I can think of was Bellychickens vs the Eagles.

I like the underdog, Cinderella
Sure, but that's irrelevant in this thread. You must have a dominant aspect to your team to contend w/ a soso record. Every time I've seen it done it was the DLine. That's what won the Giants the super bowl in 07, the DLine.

How is that irrelevant, we win the last four games of the season, we’re still the underdog, yeah I want to see a playoff game

Being the underdog is irrelevant to being a super bowl contender. If we want that, then we must find another dominant DT to side Q and at least 2 quality edge rushers.

Last year's Patriots had the 8th ranked D in the NFL complete w/ 2 dominant DTs
You know what I see
Our defense gets to the quarterback, we get to the running back
We don’t keep lain assignment, and they sneak away
That’s what I’ve been seeing chaos, on the defensive line
That’s coaching that’s not the players
They need discipline, and they’re not showing it
We did stop Henry, surprisingly because of of discipline, now if we can get Porter and the opposite corner, put bland back in the nickel, I can see this defense, turning around, but it’s gonna take some solid discipline

I’d like the rookie on the left end, but he’s not keeping containment, I think well. The old man is not going to help, lol.
For me, it’s linebackers more than anything,

I would love a head coach with an ego, bigger than Jerry, so he doesn’t listen to his baloney
I could actually settle for Deion Sanders

And '11.

there is nothing to like about a season that ends up sneaking or backing into the playoffs and then get worked like a rented mule and one and done
That record has been replayed all too many times

I'd like to think there might be some value in sneaking into the playoffs if you had to fight your way in. There's a difference in that and breezing through the regular season only to bet booted early. There's a chance you can build off the former while the latter leaves you thinking what the hell happened. That might be outdated thinking in the new NFL and especially with the current Cowboys leadership and overall attitude. We do have youth on the defense which we hope develops into a core group so the experience couldn't hurt. I guess bottom line is it can't hurt to sneak in. A few slots of draft position in the middle of the draft is worth the trade.

The other reason I might hope for the playoffs is it will no doubt generate a few memorable soundbites from the post-game PC's.

On any given Sunday, one team can beat another team.

Put a couple of "odd Sundays" back to back in the playoffs, and who knows?

Reality is there is always life going into the post season with any team, no matter how favored. Don't make the playoffs, season is over.

Just remember, the team with the worst regular season record to ever win the super bowl was the New York Giants with a 9-7 record in 2011 (Dallas was 8-8 that year). Green Bay was 15-1 LOL

If you dont want to make the playoffs, you can't be taken seriously. The playoffs are where real teams are made. Just the opportunity to play in a playoff game goes along way towards team building
Really?!? Dallas has made the playoffs a ton of the last 15-20 years… idk if it ever made next yrs team better…
