Tampa increased blitz rate

I like that Bowles essentially doubled down. All week we hear about how good we are, particularly Dak, at handling the blitz. Tampa was 0-4 and instead of backing off, they threw more pressure at us. Even if it had backfired, at least they tried. I give him credit for that.

I know they are talking about run blitzes, but blitzers are attacking before they know that it's not play-action, so Bowles made the decision to blitz and keep on blitzing until we gave him reason to stop.
We tried to counter with quick wr passes, they covered it well. This really showed how lack of speed at RB attack the edges.

But this team is built to pass and pass often. We only ran a handful of runns behind Tyler's on left

When it's working and the QB is choking, you increase the pressure. Some qb's don't go into shell shock as badly as the rat did.

I don't disagree with this. One of the counters for middle blitzes is getting the running back on the edges. The linebackers are caught out of position to stop it, so if you make a seam it's a big play.

Overall, I just feel like this was more about not recognizing the pressure. We didn't do a good job of adjusting our blitz pickups or recognizing/hitting the open man. It was a poor game by Dak because he's got to make those passes under pressure, but it was also a poor game by our receivers/tight ends for tipping passes into the air that hit them in the hands, it was a poor game by our line in sorting out blocking assignments and it was a poor game by the coaches in not being better prepared for what the opponent likes to do.

Yeah and I gotta think the short week with one of the last 3 games being international travel played a role in sharpness, game prep, etc.

I'm not specifically worried about the offense, or the ability to pick up a blitz. This area is one where you can chalk it up to "just a bad game"... reminded me so much of that 2014 game against WSH at home. The inferior team spammed something that was working, it was frustrating because it wasn't even indicative of something we typically struggled with.

The defense on the other hand... that's a continued trend of ineptitude that dates back to 2023.

I think it's unfair to expect the offense to be great in every game. The Rams had one of the best offenses in the league last year. They were held to 14 points by Houston, 17 by Baltimore and 21 by Seattle. They still won all three of those games. They also beat Chicago in the playoffs despite scoring only 20.

We count on our offense scoring 30 or more points in every game because it can't afford not to.
