How important to Cowboys avoiding 2-4?

Can I see your license sir?
"What?"
"Your license, where is your license?"
"It's on the bumper man, back there."

There are six degrees of separation for NFL teams:

Super Bowl-caliber team
------------------------------------------
Strong playoff-contending team
------------------------------------------
Weak playoff-contending team
------------------------------------------
Barely plus .500 team
------------------------------------------
.500 team
------------------------------------------
Sub .500 team
------------------------------------------
1st overall draft pick team

Answer: As of today, the importance is either inching forward towards .500 football or falling back towards handing in the first card during next April's draft. The entire team, including its infamous 84-year-old mouthpiece, should not even whisper about any other aspirations until it can achieve that much.
We all know that Jethro hates using the rebuilding word which acknowledges they aren’t in position to contend but at what point must they admit this defense is at least a couple years away.

And if we are in that .500 mode we should probably look for a total rebuild cause this defense won’t be enough to support Prescott and this offense to make a serious run.

A smarter GM might consider trading Prescott with only a couple years remaining on current contract to stockpile draft picks for a total rebuild and allow him to go to a more competitive team before he passes his prime .

We’ll be low enough in draft next couple years to draft another QB which being on rookie contract will allow us 4-5 years to totally revamp team.

Jethro would never get on board but is probably what we should probably do not only in Cowboys best interest but Prescotts. Who knows if we drafted well we might could become a stronger competitor in 2-3 years . And have a new QB for a decade to come to build around.

Normally, I would re-post a reminder of Jerry Jones' post-Jimmy Johnson, first-round quarterback drafting philosophy, but I will not this time.

Wait.

Crap.

Who cares.

Going to the playoffs this year will only make certain fans happy.

We know what happens when this team faces a SF or a LA.

Sorry we dont need to see that. We know how the movie ends.

Unless the Spiral down continues to 2-5.
I'm a believer that you are not out of it until you are mathematically eliminated. With how bad our division is (despite the Giants being 3-1-1), it might not taking a winning record to win it.

If the games were flipped between Eagles and Packers it would be huge, but based on how no one has took this division away and Giants are going to lose games due to injuries, against the Eagles is much more important. It obviously isn't great, but go 2 and 5 season is likely done.

I certainly don’t have any confidence heading to Green Bay after our loss at home to Tampa.

Our division appears to certainly be getable this year but falling to 2-4 the pressure will continue to grow.

So how big is this game Sunday night ?
This team could not punch their way out of a wet paper bag.
They are pathetic.
The season is lost.

I think we will need to go 2-1 over the next 3 games if we want to remain relevant in the NFCE race. Do we have to win the Green Bay game? No. But we do need to go 2-1. Going 1-2 or worse and it’s going to be hard to remain relevant.

I'm already looking forward to the draft. We aren't winning anything this year.

Not even the draft in 2027 presents us with much joy. We gave away several picks. We have a 1st, a 2nd, and a 4th - gave away our 3rd and 5th. I don't count any picks in the 6th or 7th rounds as they are no better than undrafted free agents and 90% of these players are generally fighting for a spot on the bottom of the roster or practice squad.

I don't know if there is pressure on the boys. I mean they're not really set up to have a good successful run this year. It did change a bunch of players but these defensive coaches are still wet behind the ears and they're still figuring out their new roles as coaches. And yeah, they're bringing in poutine to maybe help be a veteran voice in that room. Maybe help with the play calling but these guys clearly haven't had enough time to gel. They should have been playing in preseason. They've got so many issues. Schottenheimer's still sucks as an offensive coordinator call and plays. If it wasn't for the enormous amount of talent on that side of the ball, they wouldn't be much better. Special teams is a joke. They looked half decent finally for one game and then went right back to being terrible. The only thing that we know for sure is that simply getting more talent on defense. Wasn't going to fix this this team's issues and that's unfortunate cuz we were really counting on that. So right now they won six games. They're about on par. What else can you expect they're not going to compete for this division.
We hire an experienced coach and people cry about "retreads". We hire a young coach and people complain about learning on the job. So what's the answer?

It's hard for me to imagine this team going into Green Bay and winning. I guess stranger things have happened.

Unfortunately winning a championship hadn’t been in the cards for decades .

Cowboy fans don’t have much else to root for except when Jethro will be 6 feet under.

I just hope for at least 17 meaningful games. Other than that its painful watching.
We've had good teams. But players and coaches have failed us. In a sport that's "a game of inches" it doesn't take much.

Every game in the NFL is huge until you’re mathematically different. This week is no different than others. Win, win, win.
