That day will come when we get a real GM.One day we will get a QB in here that will make us forget about these two
No he’s not.If Dak played with a better FO and coaching staff, he’s good enough to win a SB
A decent idea and fun rabbit hole, but I think this points out team building failures more so than Romo/Dak ceilings. This is an interesting topic and rabbit hole to go down. There’s been talk about how if Dak is not on the team then we’ll be back to the Quincy Carter days. I’ve come to realize we haven’t recovered from the Aikman retirement and we’re still in the post Aikman rebuild. I like Dak and I like Romo but there’s some things I want to throw out.
Quincy Carter only came one win away from the peak of the Romo and Dak years. Carter lead this team to the playoffs and lost in the WC round. Dak and Romo have won a WC game. Hence Dak and Romo only got us one game closer to the success we want than Carter did.
Both Dak and Romo have great end of half and end of game stats but quarters 1-3 they put us in a bad position and have inflated stats to try and pull us out.
Dak and Romo both have quantitative stats showing they did not perform well against higher tier teams and qualitative data to back up the stats, this adding to fan frustration and polarizing both QBs.
Both are limited in their game.
Both have incredible back stories that make them very likable.
My belief is Dak and Romo are not that much better than Carter but are more marketable, likable, and have inflated stats that present themselves as fools gold. Dak and Romo have been good enough for us to not completely rebuild and sell out and get a top tier draft QB prospect but have been enough to keep us hovering around .500 and bad playoff performances.
I don’t think we ever left the Quincy Carter Clint Stoerner “Stone Age” of QBs and franchise futility, we just have a guys that we like better than the immediate guys that played QB after #8 retired.
Amen.No he’s not.
Dak plays too nervous in big moments.
Romo was the same.
The FO and coaches aren’t on the field when the ball is in your hand every offensive play.
This team isn’t winning anything until they take that position seriously.
Great post.A decent idea and fun rabbit hole, but I think this points out team building failures more so than Romo/Dak ceilings.
Dallas just doesn't have much success against quality opponents compared to the stronger teams over both careers.
Since 2006, when we have a winning record and are facing teams that ended the season with 10/11+ wins (depending on 16 v 17 games), we have a win pct of 44% (40 if you take out div games).
Compare that to NE (60%) SEA (50%) BAL (50%) KC (48%) PHI (48%).
I picked this scenario because it provides a bigger sample size than playoffs, but ultimately is similar to playoff level competition (though maybe not intensity).
Dallas beating up on bottom feeders is exactly what the QB could be deemed responsible for. Bad/avg teams lose to other bad/avg teams. A bad team with a good QB? The QB is usually the X-factor. That's useful in making the playoffs, but it's not what gets you through the gauntlet. Might get you out of the wild card, but then the divisional is where team strength is tested. (and yes, QB has to hold up his end).
In stiffer competition, the QB can't save a roster. Only one QB ever kind of has... and it was Tom Brady.
I'd argue that the nervousness of both was acquired through not having reliable support from the defense-- hero complex stuff. No he’s not.

People just refuse to accept that.Amen.
Yes sir.People just refuse to accept that.
This is a quarterback driven league. More now than ever. Some decent quarterbacks are carried by great defenses.
The Dallas Cowboys are so offense centric that the chances of them ever getting a stellar defense under this FO are nil.
Three decades have shown us that.
No question there are first round busts. But every year you look at who makes the playoffs and who goes thru the playoffs and wins. Playoffs are a pedigree game and there is no way some 4 th round QB is gonna break down a defense with his arm especially when he isn’t natural thrower and has to work on his motion. Sure there are few outliers but in the big picture it’s majority first round pedigree. Dak has been trying for 10 years and hasn’t eeven sniffed an nfc championship. Hes not a bad QB but you put him in a game where the defense is getting pressure that separates him from the good QBs.This is categorically untrue, and has been proven wrong over and over again.
And besides, the last QB's that Jerry was enamored with in the draft process were Johnny Manziel and Paxton Lynch.
Fair.I'd argue that the nervousness of both was acquired through not having reliable support from the defense-- hero complex stuff.
Dak wasn't nervous as a rookie or in 2018. And honestly, I wouldn't even say he looked nervous against SF both times. Really wasn't until the defense couldn't get a stop v GB, IMO.
Who you play for is the difference. What is Jalen Hurts’ record against teams coming in with a winning record? He’s considered a very flawed quarterback by NFL standards. He probably has a better record against winning teams than Brady, Mahomes, or Jackson. And Jalen Hurts is in no way bound for the Hall of Fame or any MVP award.Brady and Mahomes are GOATs and Lamar Jackson is pretty much in the same classification as Dak and Romo, so I don't know if you should have used Lamar to make your point, but I have one good question to ask you.
Which GMs or coaching staff did Romo or Dak have that was comparable or better than the GMs or coaching staffs that Brady, Mahomes and Jackson had?
That makes a huge difference.....
I like the distinction of 'first' SF game, because I agree.Fair.
But I still argue Dak was awful in that first SF game.
Funny how I'm one of the few members on here who has never been proven wrong yet. People scoff at my comments. And get frustrated with my pessimism.

Oh don't forgot how you were right about Zeke having more in the tank. Remember that?
Fair points made.Dak stepped into a situation where he had 3 all-pro OL that played together for a minimum of 2 years, while having a RB that averaged more than 5 YPC on first down and, because of that, the QB faced the most “stacked boxes in the league”.
Garrett was also the play-caller when Romo was around and Garrett would have been fired 4 games in NY, if not for his Mara connections. When Garrett started getting the reigns pulled from calling plays, Dallas was bottom of the league in play-action usage, 31st in rushing attempts, 31st in yards, 27th in TDs, in 30th in YPA. When they brought in Scott Linehan as passing game coordinator, meaning got Garrett away from the passing game, they went to 3.2,5 and 3 respectively.
It was not the same thing.
