Bigger problem than the defense

IMHO the biggest problem even before we talk defense is Schotty. Even as bad as the defense has been - we still could of won at least two more games if he had coached better. I mean what does Schotty bring to the team? Don't tell me play calling. I can coach the Dallas offense and let Dak call the plays and still have a top 8 offense. What coach that Dak has played for in Dallas hasn't had a great offense when Dak stays healthy??

Schotty IMO is actually holding the offense back. He's so conservative in his play calling. So vanilla and predictable. Let Andy Reid or McVay or even Kellen Moore have this same team and you'd easily see over 40 point's every game. So until Schotty actually looks in the mirror and see the problem starts with him this is the results we're going to get this season. IMHO I think the team reflects the coach. And the reflection I see is a soft, undisciplined team.Waiting on checks come Tuesday vs weekend or Thursday NFL games. Maybe more basketball free throw contest could work?? Who knows  I just don't see anything on the field Schotty bring to the table. Prove me wrong if you can...And I had hoped Schotty was the guy. But as of now I think he's one of the worst HC hires Jerry has ever made.

I wouldn't call Schotty a vanilla playcaller... not after I watched Jason Garrett for a decade.

He's not Sean McVay, but his scheme is fine. I've watched enough OCs hold back the Cowboys offense to know that the current one isn't.

His problem is that his offense needs to score 30 every week to even have a chance at winning. The defense is so bad that it leaves the offense with no margin for error.

So three straight 3 and outs isn't a problem?

Not scoring WHEN the defense DOES give them opportuinites....is in no way shape or form a problem?
\
No early points...no sustained long drives....isn't a problem.

Field goal attempts instead of TDs that WOULD give you 30+ points easily....isn't a problem?

Kicking out of bounds that gives our defense a short field...isn't a problem.

I know...I know...the defense is SO bad...there's nothing the offense can do or not do that's any kind of "problem".

Yes..the defense is bad. We get it. It does not absolve the rest of the team from due criticism.

No..the offense does NOT have to play totally perfect all game long. Just take advantage of the opportunities they DO get.

They are not playing complimentary football. The defense gives up a 10-minute drive and the offense puts together an efficient 4-minute drive which leaves the defense back out there with little rest. If Dallas wants to win offensively it needs to get the ball to the offense more than twice a half. Have the defense gamble a bit. Maybe they give up big plays but maybe they also get a turnover. Either way, the offense has the ball more.

The highest scoring team in the Super Bowl era was Manning’s Broncos who averaged 38 ppg

Why aren’t the three teams you said could easily score 40 a game doing that now?

Do they have worse talent than the Cowboys?

  • Chiefs and Rams both have perennial MVP QBs who have won super bowls.
  • Both the Rams and Chiefs have elite running backs
  • The Rams certainly have equal receiver talent.
  • All three of those teams have better offensive lines than the Cowboys

Schottenheimer has a lot of faults. For instance, his time management is suspect. He’s actually criticized by some offensive analysts for taking too many downfield shots or that those vertical routes seem forced.

The offensive scheme isn’t one of them. He doesn’t run a lot of flea flickers and trick plays, which seems to be how you evaluate an offense, but his use of presnap disguise and motion is really good.

Certainly the execution has been poor at times and no offense is perfect but the offensive scheme is the least of the problems with this team.

The radio show brought this up after the game saying what has he really done to this offense that's innovative like that guys you've mentioned!! It's boring and getting stale!! Last year was a shocker because we haven't seen anything like that but now it's been seen and it's being boring

We've had this issue for years the quick drives on the field and get right off, while the other team makes it look easy possessing the ball

Agreed...goog:)

We either go three and out...or score fairly quickly. I, like @Bobhaze attribute it to lack of run game or lack of trusting it. JG was FAMOUS for abandoing it right quick if he only got 2 yards on the first play. Run game doesn't work like that you gotta keep pounding the rock....beat em up...even if you don;t get a lot of yards at first.

The offenses just takes their time and abuse us low and slow.

We don't rip off substantial runs and it's time to abandon it!!

Please don't ever post you agree with me, you'll start a stampede of negativity in your life on here that you're not ready to handle lol lol

its the gm.
the gm is the problem.
the gm has always been here.
coaches come and go.
but the gm remains the same.
defensive schemes are tried.
some succeed.
some fail.
4/3's.
3/4's.
but nothing changes.
and neither does the gm.
he is the one who hired schotty.
he is the one who will hire the replacement.
its the gm.
start there.
til that changes...nothing important changes.

The Cowboys offense didn't score a Touchdown until the 12 minute mark of the 3rd quarter of the Texans game......so the offense having to be "perfect" is a tad hyperbolic.

So for 30 YEARS...none of the players should be held accountable?

NONE of them felt the need to excel and succeed?

NONE of them could inspire the others?

We didn't hire ALL of them from Home Depot.

If these players...HUNDREDS of them....just signed up to cash checks and Country Club it...they also share blame.

I assure you I can handle it...but thank you for your concern!

Nav22 and I just agreed and the Earth did not split in two. We'll all be fine.

Very easy answer: it’s Jerry and SJ. Very simple. Until they step out of the way and hire competent Football guys to run this team from coaching, player acquisition and complete operations, nothing changes. 30 + years There is no need to write up all of that. Not bashing you or anyone else. But it’s not worth wasting your time

I dont know the Jet sweeps with Turpin and CD Lamb are awful and often telegraphed then we have those brilliant shuttle passes to the brilliant TE Mr. Ferguson...

I dont know why schotty keeps differing the opening kick off. Seems like the offense pays better with a lead rather than having to claw back into it and depending on defensive stops which we never get.

I actually think outside the 10 yard line he's been a good play caller which is backed by the offensive rankings. My gripe is mostly getting too cute at the goaline instead of just running it and leaving points on the table. That could certainly have shifted the outcome of a game or two.

He at times has been poor with time management as well, but for the most part he's overseen a pretty good offense.

Some fans need to be reminded that in our last two games against the Texans and Bucs, we scored 6 points and 7 points, respectively, in the first half. Not exactly GOTI.
