Jalen Hurts out this week due to blood clot

IIRC Chris Olave dealt with a clot(s) in his lungs late last season.

He was hospitalized and I think underwent treatment and recovery for a few months.

I don't want to see any players hurt or hurting.

I hope it's not major and that Hurts comes back quick

Fortunately, it’s not a deep vein thrombosis. It surface level, just below the skin, even if left untreated there’s only a minuscule chance it gets to the heart or lungs

It looks like a bruise or a rash rather than some big hematoma
That's encouraging. I freak out when I hear the word blood clot.

They’re actually different.

Hematoma is when the vein is damaged and actually ruptures. The blood leaks out and pools. You can usually see it like a bruise.

This thing is a clot. The vein is damaged but doesn’t rupture so the blood coagulates inside the vein to try to heal it

Source: dad is really old and his veins have had both types.

He’ll bang his hand a sometimes the vein will leak blood and make a bruise or a mark. Very common for old folks.

He also has varicose veins in his legs and knocked his leg against some furniture and it caused a clot. It didn’t make the bruise, like on his hands, but he had a knot. His was small and he didn’t even get meds.

The clot is definitely more serious than the hand bruising for an old person but for an athlete in the prime of his life, this is next to nothing . They just don’t want him to bang it again and make it worse

Not a big deal. They can lose without him just as easily as they could lose with him. He can go jump in the pile with the rest of the injured players.

  • Hurts (Eagles QB, current situation as of mid-October 2026): Superficial blood clot (superficial thrombophlebitis / superficial vein thrombosis) in his calf. It is in a vein close to the skin surface rather than a deep vein. The Eagles described it as small; a follow-up ultrasound showed some movement, which prompted them to rule him out while deciding on treatment. Superficial clots are generally less dangerous than deep ones, though movement raises concern that it could extend or migrate toward deeper veins (with a risk of becoming a deep vein thrombosis or traveling further).

  • Olave (Saints WR, late 2025): Blood clot in his lung, diagnosed as a pulmonary embolism (PE). These usually start as a deep vein thrombosis (often in the legs) that breaks off and travels through the bloodstream to the lungs, where it blocks an artery. Olave’s presented with chest/rib soreness after a game that worsened; a CT scan found it. PEs are more serious because they directly affect lung blood flow and oxygenation
Was Cleted in the calf against the Rams.

UPDATE: I just read that the doctors found a blood clot, and made every effort to save his life.....

....and they did.

so it looks like he just needs to take a few baby aspirin, and will be perfectly fine.

Whew...close call.

Wishing him the best. That's a scary situation.

And Jalen, sit out the week after, too. Just to be sure. ;)
Praying for Hurts

But him playing has no effect on our game .....if his backup can't shred this defense they don't belong in the NFL
